We do plan on having the translated name right underneath the proper name in unit descriptions.
So in game you'd see something like:
Fallschirmjäger-Zug
Parachute Infantry Platoon
So players won't have to be able to read German or Russian to understand what their units are supposed to be, but having the proper names will be a nice bit of flavour. |
I will never understand why Relic decided to make the campaign so politically charged. Some things happened, like the Red Army killing Partisans as they advanced, but other things were exaggerated like the Commissar who just shot everybody. In the end the backlash wasn't worth it, one of the most viewed CoH2 videos is still some pissed off Russian calling Relic Nazis.
Agreed. Sure, it happened, but it wasn't representative of what every Soviet soldier experienced. Most of the troops that survived the war never saw any questionable methods or atrocities by their own side.
Also the campaign story was just plain depressing. War is Hell is a fine theme to have for a movie, but after I win a hard fought victory in a mission I don't want my mood to be stomped into the mud by yet another bleak chapter of the story. |
Is it the exact same ability as the regular airborne, but referencing your 'elite' airborne SBP instead? |
I am now very intrested on how you will be balancing rifles and SMGS along with other automatic weapons.
Still being tweaked, but the intention is that a squad of 9 men with SMGs and a squad of 9 riflemen with a single LMG will be of roughly similar cost. The SMG squad will be more effective at short range, while the riflemen with the LMG have enough firepower at long range to make an enemy frontal assault over open ground too costly.
Hey question for ya - as you lot are clearly overachieving go-getting miracle workers, I'm assuming you'd be doing the work for the British Forces as you did for everyone else as well. So my question here is, outside of that assumption being true or not, how's that going? "We're several steps ahead of all of you and already have that researched like a scientific dissertation, just need to get it in code." or "Our awesomeness will be getting to that in the proper manner you would expect after necessary preparations."
We had them all researched out a while back when we were doing this as a CoH1 mod, though not sure if they'll be ready for our first release given that we're behind schedule as it is
That said, we do have plans for doing British Rifle Companies, Motor Companies, Armoured Squadrons, Armoured Recce Squadrons, Tank Squadrons, Airlanding Companies, Parachute Companies, and Commandos.
If we ever get Daimlers or Staghounds we can also do an Armoured Car Squadron. |
Can you give me the exact name and path of the SBP you cloned so I can have a look?
EDIT: Nevermind, I found it, and I see the problem.
Go to squad_action_apply_ext and look at the 3rd and 4th actions; they're requirement actions that check if the squad has landed on the ground before allowing them to capture. I'm guessing you're spawning your paratroopers from something else other than the standard ability, so they're not getting that upgrade added that the actions are checking for, so removing the 3rd and 4th actions will solve your problem. |
By lucky, I meant lucky that their enemies had superior equipment but did not use it properly, thus doing very little damage with it.
Yup, armoured warfare was still a new thing. Everyone had different ideas on how best to use tanks, it just so happened that Germany military planners were closest to the correct method at the start of the war, and everyone else had to quickly catch up.
Yep. The factors relating the defeat of France would probably lead to complaints of contrivance if it was a story someone made up.
I don't think I'd complain at all

There's an extension for capturing on the SBP, so first double check the extension is there and it has the correct settings. If it's there and set up right... I'm not sure? Maybe remove the extension and add it again. |
the horsa glider was picked probably because they can reuse it if they want to include airdropp tank like the tetrach.
Actually the Hamilcar would be needed to bring in a Tetrarch or M22 Locust. The Horsa was the standard glider used by Airlanding battalions to bring in the majority of their manpower and equipment. A battalion had 62 Horsa gliders and a single Hamilcar for their transports. A single Horsa was enough to bring in an entire Airlanding platoon (27 men in total, glider's max capacity was 28 men plus the pilots). When they did an assault they wanted to land an entire platoon at once, so that an officer and second-in-command was with every glider and could lead them on the spot, rather than needing to regroup with an officer that landed in another glider (which might have landed far away, or not landed intact at all).
So while it does look odd when a Horsa lands and only 5 Commandos step out (not to mention that Commandos didn't land in gliders, but Relic did this is in CoH1 and they don't seem interested in correcting that mistake in CoH2... but at least CoH2 Commandos actually have a Commando uniform, and not Airborne now ), it's at least the historically correct glider for air drop operations. |
I'm not sure if Heinz Guderian would have agreed with everything what you wrote here. If you read his book "Panzer Leader", he presents there some different thoughts about the subject. His opinion about the T-34 was different. The tank was so good that the Germans wanted to copy it. They managed to beat the T-34 because the German tank crews and leaders were much better in 1941 than their Sovjet counterparts. But the tank in itself was very good.
I believe the answer is in the middle of these two sides. Tank development involves a lot of trade-offs, and one of the major trade-offs the T-34 designers made in order to have a good combination of sloped armour and excellent mobility was a cramped interior with fewer vision ports. The standard for German medium and heavy tanks was a 5-man crew, but the T-34 only fit 4 crew members (the later T-34/85 with the larger turret fixed this, though it was still cramped), so the commander was also the gunner. Even if the Soviet crew was as experienced as a German crew, they were still at a bit of a tactical disadvantage if their commander was busy aiming and firing the gun rather than observing the big picture. And with fewer vision ports (and the lack of a commander's cupola in early models) the crew didn't have great situational awareness to begin with.
( Lack of radios was another issue that contributed to low success rates in combat, though more to do with a shortage of dry cells than to do with the T-34 design itself. )
No surprise that when the Germans made two proposals for T-34-inspired vehicles, both were a bit larger than the actual T-34 so that they could fit 5 crew in. The winning proposal led to the Panther, which as we know is quite a bit bigger |
"The new high velocity effects we're proud of".
And it admittedly it does look better as a tracer. Projectiles traveling above a certain speed only become visible for a single frame, if at all. |
