This type of attitude is exactly why Relic took took 20+ years just to allow people to change their own hotkeys (a basic feature of literally every single game from 2000 onwards). Stop settling for mediocre trash and demand real upgrades to the game instead of the same engine from 2006 with a DOW 3 colorful filter on top of it just to make it seem like they actually made a brand new game.
At least there are some people trying to get Relic to make changes in a positive direction.
COH 3 has dog shite graphics, the worst UI I have ever used in any single game (besides Total War Three Kingdoms) and lacking basic functional upgrades like improvements to Pathfinding. It doesn't need to be perfect but any improvement over what we have now is a step in the right direction. Instead we get Relic embarassing themselves on Twitch by trying to reverse tanks only for them to spin in circles.
Lmao mate I think mappable hotkeys are still not available to AOE4
Honestly if it will be another "DUUUH HEROIC ALLIES", then it will be just as bad, at least for me. Campaign preview already showed us generic cowboy bad-ass american and smug british, but it the lastest campaign showcase it was somewhat bearable, so who knows.
I would have rather picked Men of War approach with its "Here is your briefing, here is your objectives", rather then "every battle tells a story" ... except its being told by a total moron.
Agreed but I think COH3 will have german story.
When that was announced every white prince from reddit said that it encourages hate
Only on 1v1 maps can you actually bring out an AT and not risk losing it. Good luck bringing out the AT far enough on a map like Hill400 to take out a bunker guarding the VP. Bunkers can be a Godsend if placed properly, especially since OST is a very defensive faction with great team weapons, guarding the said bunkers.
I never disagreed with the sentiment that bunkers are useful.
I only said that they are more expensive than they seem. 60muni can be better spent elsewhere.
You now have all right to tbh. Lets even put campaign and maps aside.
Last MP beta was 6 months ago, with USF and Wehrmacht factions being more or less flashed out before it, we had few balance problems here and there during testing.
Right now as it stands, game still runs like shit (no meaningful improvements since last alpha) and we dont have even have MP versions of DAK\UKF, not even their concepts to discuss.
At very least, relic MUST do another beta test for multiple weeks right until the launch for MP with all 4 factions or at least new two, otherwise it balance will be messed up similar to release state of COH2.
But my main concern if the performance, because for real, so much time passed and nothing was improved.
I do wish they'd push the release date to next year. It'll no doubt go down badly with corporate, but a bad launch stays with the product for a long time. I'm not saying this because I made a prediction (way back) of a next-year launch, but because the timescale doesn't matchup. The game industry has enough burnt out devs from crunch as is.
I am looking forward to it and would like to have my hands on it sooner than later.
Reporting bugs and helping to improve the gameplay is okay for me.
And for me personally the performance was okay and I do not have such an high end gaming machine.
And at least the new USF looks well rounded as well as Wehrmacht. DAK and Brits look at least kinda interesting.
I do not mind that much the dynamic campaign.
Reddit-tier opinion.
We are consumers and by no means are entitled to, or have the knowledge for, bug reporting on a commercially released game. There are people getting paid for that.
A game, like a book, or a movie (and that may surprise you) is a product, not a service. Back in 2018, for 60euros you could but RDR2 (day one perfect).
Opinions like these are what make the modern videogame scene a complete cancer, since idiotic companies expect consoomers to be testers, bug reporters, creators etc... whilst in reality a player is just a player.
COH3 will most likely suck on release and need 12month patching to even be playable. Exactly what happened with AOE4.
I disagree with the notion of Penals not being "honorable", from what I have gathered there were two types of "Penal" units; well-armed and professional NCOs that are given a second chance to serve and earn their freedom through blood, and "tramplers"-poorly armed and trained infantry meant to clear minefields and other suicidal duties.
Penals in COH2 seem to be the former since they are better armed and professional soldiers, willing to lay down their lives so that their debts to the USSR are paid back in blood. That seems honorable to me.
Regarding veterancy, the most important veterancy bonuses for Grens/Obers arrive at Vet2 instead of them being spread out you get a flat 40% accuracy bonus that completely turn most engagements on their head. This is partially why SOV struggles midgame due to no weapon upgrades available at that time (except DP28 for guards).
Either the effect of To The Last Man should be strengthened by 2% for each bonus, or Penals should receive better moving accuracy with vet, seeing as how they aren't winning long range vs axis inf
I like your take.
The problem starts with the english translation of the word "Penal", both in the soviet and german contexts.
"Penal" units were not necessarily punishment units. They served as a way for already penalized civilians to redeem their service by fighting the war.
The way people understand this term is that they served in the front as tough punishment, which is not true. COH2 does not portray this accurately.
Most, if not all, penal units in Nazi Germany chose themselves to serve in the front (simply because their alternatives were to serve in concentration camps), whilst we do not have a clear picture of what happened in ussr (but I guess the same; gulag < dying in a trench).
yeah except bunkers are far faster to set up, smaller, considerably cheaper, easier to get, can be gotten earlier than a bofors
you normally get 1 bofors, but you can shit out bunkers whenever you got the manpower and munitions to spam them, for the cost of absolutely no pop cap you can plug in your flank
Bunkers get killed with 3 atg shots and cost 60muni to upgrade (reminder: lmg42 costs 60muni, mines cost 60muni all of which are 5000 times more useful than a static bunker).
I played the mission alpha and posted my review after 5 hours of tinkering around and because I had a slur word I got banned. Anyway I like this text so I removed any offensive content and I will be putting it out again since I consider it the most based.
Turns out it's not too bad. I don't have too much time so I will write in small paragraphs.
The good
DAK feels too much like the good old Panzer Elite from the vCOH days. Especially using the recovery vehicle (Bergertiger anyone?). Small agile squads with lots of versatility but never good at anything beyond a certain point.
Amazing, and I mean amazing voice acting. Hearing it through headphones really immersed me greatly. Tank crews sound like they talk out of scorching hot african weather conditions on a shitcan. The fire guys (schiattori or somethin?) sound over their gas mask and it's pretty cool. Also, from a gameplay standpoint they remind me too much of flame penals which we got rid of.
Very very good physics engine that makes for "realistic" as in "fun" vehicle combat. When you kill an enemy tank it blows up but does not stop on the spot like COH2 does but rather it tries to improve over COH1's vehicle mechanics, whereby after you kill it it bursts up but stops moving naturally due to leftover speed from the driver. I liked it a lot.
Buildings collapsing may be retarded but they blend in well with the general feel and aesthetic of the game. I like them.
New abilities that may spice the game up a lot. For example, Vickers MG gun has a built in "fortify on the spot and have 360 degrees range" ability.
Towed weapons in general make for some interesting shit. For example, when you pull in a towed ATG, you can place it somewhere and use the truck for resource boosting (think Zistrucks from industry sov commander) and to reinforce (now that I write it it sounds op). I like this.
Zombie vehicles may work. Right now all the armored fights end up way too quickly, so it makes sense to be able to pick up your lost vehicles and reuse them. Even Panzers III die quickly (in like, 1-2 hits max with some snares) so using a zombie vehicle can put interesting gameplay options. Personally I like it (may be biased from vcoh days but whatever).
Diverse mix of models and Italian spices here and there. I liked it even though it still looks quite primitive.
Caches are fixed. No ammo/fuel. A single cache on every point and you are good.
Very good OST. Blends perfectly with desert war. They took inspiration from games like MOH.
The bad
Brits are again designed to be a emplacement spamming cancer fest.
The engine sucks ass. I have the most newest graphics cards and motherboard installed (I even tried it on some university computers which have double 1080tis installed) but could not get a steady 60fps from an engine that still uses one core. Do not expect the game to work well even in decent systems.
Auto-reinforcing may be way too op, even for this forum's axis' larpers' standards. I cannot see a way to fix this. It gets worse when you realize that you can build an HP center in every point you capture and it gives you free reinforce, free heal and retreat point. So in essence for paying 100mp and 50muni to upgrade point, you get auto reinforce, free reinforce, free heal and free retreat point. Boy does it sound shitty.
Auto-vaulting dumbs the small arms fights way too much. Even though it sounded good to me before, I take it back now.
UI needs serious work. I cannot understand why they put the units' emblems bottom left corner. Buttons way too big, sometimes icon glitch out. Easy fixing.
I cannot understand how weapon system will work. Maybe they took my advice when I said make every weapon upgrade a sidegrade and give each squad 2 slots. But they locked everything and cannot learn shit right now.
Historical accuracy. Have talked about it before. But not too bad. Passable I would say.
Weird graphical design. When I put every setting on max it looked like a chinese fake mobile game but when I toned down the antialising looked pretty good and with nice desert aesthetics (think Uncharted 3 Rub al Khali). I don't know what to say.
"Tactical Pause" is an unworkable and useless piece of shit. Obviously it cannot work in MP and in SP it makes you have the pseudo feeling of a general managing 2 theaters at once but in reality you just blobspam everything since the AI sucks ass.
They will get unit skins for multiplayer and other idiotic P2W nonsense. I hope at least they make the MP component free so that people can actually have a reason to populate the servers (have talked about it before).
Tank riding is borderline broken and OP. It allows you to potentially roam around with a tank killing taskforce (tank cannon + panzergrenadiers shrecks + snares). I really hope it's locked behind only some units (like Panzergrenadiers for their namesake).
The animations are horrible, much to contradict what another forum guy said about COH3 having the best animations ever. Don't believe me? Here, take a look at this:
Conclusion
Slightly better than I expected it to be.
Definitely not 60$ worthy.
Still has major work to be done. Cannot see how that would be feasible by the November 2023 deadline they set.
