I just don't see any reason why WFA factions get something free with teching even though it is cheaper than vanilla ones have.
I can give you many reasons for that:
1. WFA factions need to be a little OP so people buy WFA (no surprise, isn't it hehehe) ;
2. Because factions need to be so much different one related to other that being one of the main reasons for which we all love COH in general: in order to efficiently use a faction you must totally change your way of thinking compared to faction you played before;
3. Because... ASYMETRICAL BALANCE. ;
4. Because they don't have only advantages but also DISadvantages like resources income penalty (OKW), paper armor (USF) and so on.
And the list can continue...
P.S. Remind me of some SOVIET faction disadvantages 'cause I can't find any... |

+ 1, but the difference is that I don't see ANY reason for a Flak ht nerf. Because I don't have so manny problems against it, as I explained before. Can't beat it (due to good placement, efficient defense, etc)? Avoid it. Take the rest of the teritorry. And it will fall eventualy. Not necessarely in early or middle game, but in late game. |
You can replace Ostheer with USF or Sov in your wall of text. Well and USF doesn't have any Call-in solution to skip their T4.
The only Faction that hasn't any significant downside is OKW today.
Ostheer is the most balanced faction imo, the only nerf they may received is around LMG stats, but this goes for all factions in a raw if Relic decide to touch this statistic.
In comparison OKW really need a huge nerf in many areas or a complete redesign (which will probably never occur), Sov and USF need some tweaks to balance their strength and weaknesses.
No offense, but you should really play some more ostheer games and play some OKW games before you say that. OKW does not need so much nerf as you imply and Ostheer certainly needs no nerf at all. |

The only way to keep the pace with ostheer curently (in my view) is to grenspam with as many lmg42 as you can get + 251, a pack + pzgrens with schrecks, get 1-2 PIVs then pump Tigers like hell - they are in pretty bad shape right now though.
Red all these walls of text in the thread, everybody is right in a way or another, but it's something wrong with this faction which can't be fixed just by an MG42 buff - which is necessary. I'd say in addition make teching cheaper from fuel point of view and do something with that crippled Tiger, or make units in T4 worthy of investment. Currently for late game what are your options as OST? An intangible T4 with units that you have to wonder if they really deserve to be built - Panthers are eaten alive by 85s IS2s and ISUs, pzwerfers are just Fireworks - and a Tiger call-in which, again, is eaten alive by the same soviet heavy call in mentioned before plus Jacksons. Ostheer used to own the late game and it's normal for a faction to own a moment in game that it should exploit the most. The problem with Ostheer is that it's not owning any moment in game in the current state, while all other factions are. |
jaigen,Im sure the best soviet players struggled against the old instapin MG42 supported by Panzerfausts that insta killed flanking overpriced M3s,too,with no real option of teching T2 to save yourself from an early P4 or 222 etc.
Im not talking about 2013-early 14, im talking about now. And right now,grens,pios,ANYTHING destroy maxims when flanked thanks to march deployment,riflenades wipe it with one shot,and I never see maxim spam unless its a noob or a tool doing it. Con spam,or T1+T2 is way better Right now in this day in time.
if you call yourself a top axis player and you "struggle" against maxim spam,somethings wrong with where you are ranked,or you're in a 4v4.
It proves everything. A good unbiased player will figure out how to use the unit to maximum effectiveness instead of complaining that its so horribly useless blah blah. Most people cannot position,or dont feel like positioning an MG42 and support it so they complain. Its too hard to use the MG42,not that it doesnt work when it is used right.
The support gun is not useless,Its just the other options are more powerful and have greater OP effect,like blobbing shreks and rushing a panther,no different than gren spam and then blobbing LMGs is easier than microing an MG42.

A small intervention if I may. Related to maxim spam, it's not a good tactic on 1v1, I wouldn't know how it works on 3v3 or in 4v4 but I can certify that is absolutely deadly in 2v2 if applied by both players and applied well. It grants excellent results with very few micro.
Mg42 it's not in a good shape, no matter how well you use it, it won't help you stop blobs. |

Really? Maybe against CPU? 'Cause I can't see no OKW play in your player card. If you think CPU is spanking you hard while playing OKW (LOL) wait to meet some competent allied players. I think untill then you should play against CPU some more and go against players when you won against "Expert". I never went into a real fight with a faction before winning against CPU on "Expert" level.
I hate the commanders and the handicapness of being forced run around with volks (what else can OKW do really). No mg: s, no mortars, no snipers, no field reinforcement. It does limit options and lots of adjustments required for new gameplan.
Don't worry, you are not the first who was hit in the face by the reality when he tried to play with the faction he never played before. I experienced such shocks too, when I played with soviets and USF and I'm still playing them almost everytime I play COH. 'Fact is there are some people here who aren't playing the game at all, let alone they should experience all factions, and still have opinions. |
And you still losing one big point.
Going for at gun means no AI (mg, m20 or aa) not to mention at mine but thats of pure shit design of usf.
I say again, you can use anything to protect the gun(s). You can have one, it will work slower, you can have 2 it will work faster. I admit it's harder in 1v1 but in 2v2 it should not be such a problem.
Anyway, if we just want things to be easier, I can understand you. But not cheese-easier, that won't be ok.
By the way, I observed that generally allied players are massing to destroy advanced hq OKW buildings the moment they spoted it. Some times it works, some times it has the opposite result (allied take heavy loses and they will not recover in time). Like I said, it's not mandatory to do it. You can avoid them and accept a 50 - 50 map percent stalemate with OKW untill you got stronger and can go for a push that will wipe its buildings. You can boost your resources, he can't without painfull sacrifices. For such a scenario I follow a completely different approach. Of course you will work harder than the OKW player and the success is not guarantee in this way eather, but if you want an invincible receipt, you picked the wrong game . |
There is a problem with your usf guide. How im supposed to use ground attack if schwerer is behind shot blocker?
The shot blocker is functioning in both ways. If you can't shoot it, it can't shoot you either, can he? Your opponent will not surround it with shot blockers or else it is useless for him too. So you will place your gun(s) in such way that they can hit it.
Protect with AA and hmg? You do realize that at gun denies hmg and aa + hmg denies at gun?
You gonna say, play airborne, im gonna say, its broken to get doctrine to counter building.
I'm not sure I understand what you described. What I ment, is protect your base of fire (1 or 2 AT guns) with some units - what you think is more effective. He won't storm you with light vehicles because eather he probably won't have more than one - and you have 2 AT guns there, what the hell - , so you have to protect them with some AI units. Examples are manny you can use anything you want, from riflemen and ad-hoc fighting position to AA or stuart. It won't be easy to throw you back from this position and you will be outside Fhq area of action too.
In theory. South spawn for usf on faymonville. Okw wires blocking stone Wall, schwerer behind building in the middle, covered by pak43 almost in base.
