Played as Ostheer against this last night.
It gets totally raped (as expected) by double sniper.
At the end of the game my snipers had over a 100 kills, I don't know if that is more to do with the OST sniper being ridiculously broken or the eng unit being vulnerable due to its slow speed.
Mortar half tracks are also hilarously broken against the UK right now and I had a much easier time by simply having a couple of them on the field.
Thanks for the suggestions in this thread, they helped a lot.
I guess they are fine vs OST but OKW seems to have a much harder time dealing with them, unless you go double IEG, but they are less mobile than mortar half tracks and obviously far less lethal than snipers. |
Wow okay that makes sense.
I didn't realize they halved the radius.
I had one built on the ridge on one of the new maps, and I shit you not, it was firing non stop the entire game and ended up with.... 11 kills.
I couldn't figure out wtf was going on because I knew the damaged had been nerfed but didn't realize the explosion radius was too.
Honestly it iS COMPLETELY USELESS AGAIN.
Hooray Gj Relic! |
Good lord that is quite the unit.
So you have a 5 squad unit with more armor than shocks which is half the cost of Obers and gets a free LMG upgrade? I mean even without the 13 MP reinforce that is a ridiculously good bargain for an engineer unit which can also repair and make battlefield modifications.
Not entirely sure that seems balanced but then again I'm not expert. I know their slow but they seem like terminator units right now. Does anyone have their actual DPS output with all those machine guns? |
Their vickers lmg is free, and even with it they're not very effective combat troops without additional weapons. lmg obers are far superior 1v1.
You say that but I watched a full squad of obers get mowed down by these guys. I guess if they have 2 armor and 3 lmgs that might be why. They are pretty slow but honestly trying to close into grenade range means your going to get shredded, and you can't really engage them at range or they win.
I guess an IEG or walking stuka would do it as they did seem pretty slow.
Are they super cheap to reinforce as well? I noticed that he had some kind of supporting half trak driving around keeping them at full strength the majority of the time. |
Just had an interesting encounter with a player who spammed the anvil engineers.
I was wondering what their stats are because I swear to god I just had a squad of obers engage a vet 1 squad in cover and the obers got absolutely devastated. Granted they had to move into cover first, but the engineers lost 1 model to the obers 3 and instantly vetted up.
They cost what like $210 MP?
I thought I had the guy until a churchill basically drove head on into a ratken and jagdpanther and killed them both while his engineers mopped the floor with my obers.
The British seem to have extremely strong, like almost OP strong lategame units. And these engineers apparently become gods with the LMGs. He had like 6 squads of them, I have no idea how he afforded the munitions on the things as I could barely outfit my obers.
How would you guys counter this strategy? |
Facing double 120mm is pretty goddamn annoying as well, and we all know that unit has been through the shredder and back, through the shredder again, and back ect.
I think the new IEG is in a pretty good spot, however it seems really effective vs the Brits because they apparently don't enjoy having their emplacements shot at. So really I feel like most people who play Brits are going to automatically dislike anything that can reach out and touch their expensive emplacements...
It seems to function pretty similar to the pack howie and no one is calling that one OP, but then again most people are trying to play the British right now. Really don't think the faction was well designed at all, plus how the hell are there no alpha testing of these things? |
Artillery isn't going to kill emplacements trust me. Emplacements have the brace structuure ability that reduces received damage by something crazy like 80%.
Simply activate all your emplacements with brace structure when you hear arty go off and you are safe.
Bottom like is you can't kill emplacements with short duration arty such as Stuka Dive Bomb, Walking Stuka, LEFH, or other call in abilities.
Only effective ways are mortar, LEIG, or infantry/tanks that can provide sustain fire against emplacements.
Your kidding right?
Right now axis mortars get hard countered by 120mm, both in terms of ISG's and regular ost mortars. How the fuck are you going to kill these structures when they are immune to the shitty arty the Germans alread have? The ISG, while useful against infantry, seems to have a hell of a time accurately hitting existing emplacements. Not to mention that mortar pits will undoubtedly have the same range as the fucking OST mortar so trying to kill them will be an exercise in futility.
Building an anti tank emplacement with a nearby mortar will be an instant lockdown..
Also I watched the stream and yes the OST sniper is way over performing. I have had a few fun matches with the encirclement doctrine building 3 of them and using sprint. It's actually fucked up how broken that thing becomes, and against 4 man squads that will basically wreck the early game. So yea it's going to need to be fixed. |
That would be true only if combined axis factions didn't had ALL the tools needed.
They do.
Brits introduce what allies do not have in stock roster, heavy non doctrinal armor, heavy AT and long range infantry. Axis have all of it already, so why do you think there will be a problem?
So you want a pairing of a faction with a currently overwhelming early and mid game advantage, paired with one that has an equal late game advantage and heavy fortifications?
Fair enough.
I await to see how the Axis faction will deal with heavy emplacements given the fact that all of the useful artillery resides in the hands of the Allied faction. I seriously can't wait for mortar pits, boffors, and AT gun nest line with ML-20's sitting behind shelling my base. I am also sure the Brits will get their artillery commander to add to the fun.
I mean most games in 4 v 4 as Germans don't even get to the 20min mark currently, but the ones that do go far enough see the lovely B4 and ML-20 raping begin in earnest.
It will be great to rewind the clock to the "good old days" with Sittard summer being the new Sheldt. It really didn't feel the same without the Brit mortar pits and 25 pounders. |
Why don't you wait for the release before theorizing that UKF will break the meta of 3v3/4v4 where axis usually dominates if all the players are of the same skill ceiling?
If I'm right, Ost and OKW will get their own goodies coming along when UKF is released. So don't expect them to remain unchanged as they are now when they go up against the brits.
Has relic announced new units for the Axis factions?
Also the game has radically shifted. The chances of winning with axis now against a full team of Soviets are pretty much slim to none in public match making if the enemy team knows what its doing. As I said earlier the only time I ever see any success is picking CAS every. single. match.
It gets pretty old after a while. Also I have VERY LITTLE FAITH in Relics legacy of balance given that any new faction they have ever introduced has broken the meta.
Remember TOV? The game was in the shitter for over a year, multiplayer was virtually unplayable. Nothing but super paks and Roo's running around. |
Let me preface this by stating flatly that I play 3 v 3 and 4 v 4 exclusively so unfortunately I can only speak for what I have seen in those arenas for the past month.
Originally I was pretty excited for this patch and returned after a rather lengthy 6 month absence, initially I really enjoyed the changes. That initial enjoyment gave way to irritation and finally disgust at just how ridiculous the current Soviet meta is.
Every game goes exactly the same way:
1) Pick Soviet Shock Army/B4 doctrine
2) Maxim/mortar spam into AT guns
3) If your opponent is building mortars/field guns, counter them easily with 120mm mortars
4) Call in shocks
5) Unleash the quad M5 while your shocks mop up any paks and your mortars level his MG's. Suppress everything in a 10 mile radius.
6) Spam SU-76's using their ridiculous range penetration and FREE artillery ability to push your opponents off the map.
7) Build ML-20s and destroy any OKW trucks and obliterate his infantry
8) Win the game.
I have personally used this strategy countless times with an amazing success rate given my only mediocre skill level. I barely even see any USF in team games anymore due to their incredible inferiority to Soviets. The only real counter to this is close air support, and if I am playing Germans the only way we ever win against a team of equal skill is abusing a clearly broken commander en mass. That's what the game is now, endless bombing vs a team of CAS, or endless shelling vs any Soviet ever.
The only real weakness, if it can be said to even be one, is having the Soviets unable to build bunkers or static emplacements to lockdown territory.
Enter the British.
I remember with utter horror how COH1 changed forever into SIM city Brit rush simulator and was never quite the same for 2 years after the launch of the expansion. I am REALLY REALLY not looking forward to even trying to play against Soviets with Brits perfectly complementing holes in their play style.
Can you imagine trying to deal with Soviet cheese, all the while the British player is simply building mortar pits, mgs, and anti tank emplacements as they slowly push you back? The Ostheer already have virtually no useful artillery, I don't even really see how countering the british is even going to work with the ostheers current state. The OKW might do okay with the walking stukas but overall I am dreading the release of this faction and the potential obliteration of the game balance. The Soviet buffs were just too over the top, and adding the British faction on top of them is going to turn this game into pudding yet again.
At least it will be cool seeing 96% allies and 4% axis while searching. |
