I don't see how this applies to linear DPS; you move closer you deal more damage (or the opposite for LMGs). Tank accuracy and penetration curves are linear too.
I think he means that it would be better if "sweet spot" distance in fight between unit X and unit Y wouldn't be at point blank range for unit X and as far as you can for unit Y, but somwhere in between, like it was at range 25 for cons vs grens.

1) it's not that mg's are "CRAZY HURR DURR", the mg's are THE ONLY AI panther has, while Comet can ACTUALLY deal with infantry.
Addiotionally you need to PAY munitions for that dps, while the mg dps is minimal compared to other mg dps (like 50cal pintle or t34 mg's).
And all mg's need to face target to inflict the dps (that get mostly negated by craters at this stage of the game).

Anyway: i don't have the calculator at hand but is the DPS from Conscripts equal as it's now meaning that it's an overall nerf in the early/opening game?
80/16 > 5 shots
80/12 > 7 shots
I guess this get's offset by the other buffs.
I wonder how badly it will affect cons vs kubel balance.
I think all mortars and light howitzers should get this easy redesign to fit them into the role they are intended for:
- Less damage vs "mobile" inf, meaning against volks, grens, rifles, sections, etc
- a BIT more damage vs support weapons: AT Guns, MGs, etc
- more damage vs buildings and units inside them
All of that can be done by either changing the stats and/or damage tables.
That's it.
Mortars should counter static gameplay and support troops, not wipe inf left and right.
Light Howitzers like LeIG and PaK howie should deal more damage to buildings than other mortars but less to inf as they have a huge range and are meant to harass OKW buildings and UKF sim cities.
Every other change will bring up way more problems IMO.
Easily done by removing autofire and buffing barrage.
Mobile infantry can get out of barrage quickly, while setup weapons will stay longer under it and eat a few shells.
