IMHO we receive today a great indication about CoH future. A former Relic artist and their portfolio goes to public. Thanks to COBRA and your search about Relic employees.

My theory is simple:

Just to remember something like that happened in Battlefield franchise. A former DICE dev had a portfolio with WW2 weapons LEAKED in the internet and this thing goes to public 1 year before the BFV reveal.

CoH: Cold War/Modern Art (1983–present)
Art hints. One of the key artists from CoH1+CoH2 posted this cool LAV-25 art/3D:

Modern war might be a really awesome theme.... tho I gotta admit that I would be a little bit scared by this change as well since we're all used to pure WW2 setting.

I wonder if they would go for an existing scenario -such as cold war- or if they come up with a fictitious war, for example as in C&C Generals where we had USA, China and the Middle East ("GLA") fighting against each other.

I'd rather they stick to WW2, but different factions/early war period instead.

Last time they went radical, DoW3 happened.

I don't think a modern setting fits CoH - too many high tech high range weapon systems (like ATGMs) and focus on merging combat roles like the Main Battle Tank or stuffing all sorts of heavy weapons on recon/infantry fighting vehicles (like Bradley or BMP). Or all infantry having standardized assault rifle + LMG loadouts.

Something early Cold War (the end of the 'mechanical' warfare era) would be pretty interesting though. Basically 1950s-1960s with Pattons and T-54s and with light tanks like the M41 still in service could basically be a reskinned CoH/CoH2. The same mechanics and core but in a new and unique setting.

That was more like a "confirmation" that a proper surprising leak. BF tend to re-use quite a lot of assets and generally doesn't move too much from version to version unless there's a huge generational/tech changes. BF V was not surprising to be WW2 after WW1.

The BF1 announcement was a surprise, cause it could had gone in any direction after the latest DLC of BF4 (prelude to 2142 and also one DLC based on Titan mode, even if it was underwhelming) but mostly futuristic at first. If EA didn't get access to Star Wars rights and them later having Titan Falls IPs, i would had said that the future was a more likely choice.

The problem with going modern is that it's a really risky call. After the disaster of DoW3, i don't think they have too much space for ambitious decisions.

This is the most i could see them (you must gather your party before) venturing forth.

Modern combat will look silly in CoH, P4 and T-34 fighting at close distances was a real thing, PT-76 and 'merican light tanks fighting each other at close distances in jungle setting was a thing, but T-80 and M1 having a knife fight's alongside RPG/LAW blobs would be hilarious to look at.

All infantry being all-range always automatic weapons infantry also wouldn't add much to gameplay.

Except things like DMR, LAW, and LMGs still exist.

And frankly Coh2's get lmg and A-move doesnt add much to game play either.

OT it would be kinda fitting for Relic to resurrect another dead franchise. They did Aoe4 and now they can do Red Alert 4.

I hope their is Greece plz no hate Kappa

Would love me some Fallschirmjägers landing on Crete like in the mod for CoH.

But them asking people about WW2 and then doing a modern setting doesn't make sense.

It has come to our attention that nigo has worded his thread's title like YouTube clickbait. We're very sorry for any distress this has caused, and in light of this, have terminated him from his position with coh2.org.

Honestly, it's hard for me to imagine CoH without AT guns. But the existence of World in Conflict leads me to believe it can work (but stay being CoH, not WiC, I much prefer CoH's cover proliferation).

I'd rather they'd stick to world war 2, there is so much more there that hasn't been fully captured. Modern Warfare is not a deal-breaker for me though.

You thought skill planes were bad before? Welcome to Modern Warfare, where 80% of your military strength relies on your air force.

I was sure that it would be Mediterranean, but I think Cold War would be an awesome setting. The aesthetic could be more distinct than "This is media about WW2".

Either way, I have a feeling that not including any of the armies from previous games is going to free up a lot of faction design concepts since players and developers have no design-related expectations of them (British need emplacements, Germans need small squads, etc).

While we would miss out on things like Heavy Tanks, it could still work. For example the Stryker Dragoon and Stryker Mobile Gun System could have a dynamic role like the Luchs and Puma in CoH2. Light tanks in general could be replaced by various Armored Cars and Infantry Fighting Vehicles.

Something early Cold War (the end of the 'mechanical' warfare era) would be pretty interesting though. Going with a Cold War setting would be dynamic, the Cold War as as much a jumble of technology as WW2 was. You could have a period where the US Engineers use M3 Grease Guns, the US GI use M16A2's, and Assault Infantry use CAR-15's. Or if you go earlier the GI's could use M14's and have M16's upgradable, or used by Assault Infantry.

Well until recently the US Military used mostly M16A2's, M16A4's, and M4's, all semi and burst fire. I suppose that'd make them the long range faction infantry, and then whatever Kalashnikov using adversary is the enemy would be the close range faction infantry.

I suppose it would work with ATGM Teams like the BGM-71 TOW or 9M133 Kornet, they would have to deploy like machine guns instead of being wheeled though.
