Pgrens could use some love too, I think we should take away LMG from grens and give it to them instead, nothing can go wrong with that!

You don't make unit useful, by butchering another unit.


Idiotic comparison.

Combat engineers are already plenty useful even without demo charges. Currently the demo is just an undeserved bonus.

Na, I prefer satchel charges on the Penal because they are mobile enough to take out defense bunker emplacements and MGs in buildings.

They could have both, making them demolition specialist.

This would give them an unique role rather than 'conscripts, but slightly more expensive and slightly more dps'

A whole LOT of units had some design, in which they have failed miserably or overlaped with another squads and they were changed.

Penals are no exception here.

Increasing far DPS is pretty pointless because it either makes flamer upgrade useless or make the buff rather pointless.

A penal squad with a flamer upgrade fights better at range 20 and closer so a buff at range 35 will offer little to squad.

But on the other hand your knowledge of the game mechanics is so poor that you though that the changes in hand held flamers was a nerf...

Close accuracy 69% mid accuracy 46% far accuracy 28.80%

doubling far DPS as suggest by Katitof will have little affect in the range of 20...and the weapon it would actually be more accurate at far then it currently is at mid.

Current DPS (0,10,20,30):

penal_troops_svt_rifle_mp 5.997037037 3.94371897 1.725866342 1.014387985

Double accuracy Far:

penal_troops_svt_rifle_mp 5.997037037 3.94371897 1.972786117 1.660315394

so the difference in range 20 is 14%...

20 is the range the flamer kicks in Penal SVT get good closer, a Penal squad only SVTs, has more DPS the riflemen allot closer than 20...

Penal don't need double far DPS. They are designed mid to close and since they are using flamers will move to range 20 to fight or will lose the DPS of member due to flamer. They do need to have different veterancy bonuses and abilities.

If they need mode DPs and as long as they have a flamer upgrade that should be at range 20 and not at range 35...

Or a completely different role...probably of cheap cannon fodder...

has anybody just considered buffing their dps and that's it? I mean... That's their number one complaint, they're just not dealing enough damage.

Should be a high dps low durability unit. Go in, shoot around, throw a satchel and retreat.

Not sure what your point is. Conscripts are mid to far using bolt action rifles, penals are mid to close using carbine/flamers. (They probably out DPS conscripts if they have a flamer in ranges 20 and bellow)

I think the biggest problem with a straight up damage buff is that it would make them like American rifles but with an extra man and Sprint... They almost need a cheese to be unique.

What about giving them ptrs package and letting guards put theirs away? Might make defending a sniper too easy then :/ long/ short range specialization? Idk its a tough nut...

penal being a "mid-close" range unit is an artificial constraint.

penal's mid and close range dps are not even that good. the wehr pio have better close range dps than the penal.

the penal are just crap. their dps is neither good enough at close range nor is it good enough at long range.

the american flame rifle was difficult to balance, because the flamethrower was an unique situation. It would not have made sense to nerf the rifleman in order to accommodate a DLC doctrine upgrade. The only sensible thing to do was to nerf the flamethrower itself in some way.

By comparison, the penal and flamethrower are irrevocably linked to each other. there's a lot more room to work here, because the penal would be balanced and designed around the fact it's got a flamethrower.

You can increase the dps by changing more than just accuracy, you know.
