Doesn't this number depend heavily on whether you have Ardennes Assault?

Ardenne Assault should be pretty small by comparison, as it only adds new maps and no new assets/music. With regards to the Western Front armies, they too should only have a limited size, as all of the assets from WFA were added to the original version of the game to avoid compatibility issues.

Oh, and with all of my maps, we're looking at about 40gb here. Sigh.

Why does COH2 need 20 GIGS of "buffer space" to install? I'm just curious.

Its not coh2, its all steam games.

did the game work before you deleted it? there's been a bug for the past while where it says you need to patch but you don't actually have to.

also, you can download it onto one disk and then copy the files over and then tell steam to install it in the new location and it will find the files and not download everything.

http://www.coh2.org/topic/26698/well-shucks-coh2-is-now-too-big-for-my-ssd./page/1#post_id242823

My SSD isn't even big enough for CoH2 to install or patch. I had to move it over to a clunky old disc drive that has made load times more than triple.

I've ALT-F4ed and reopened the game to get out of matches quicker.

I miss having CoH2 on my SSD. Stupid massive patching and installation requirements.

Although I really should just mklink it again...

Developers are becoming lazier and lazier each day. No effort to repack their games.

Regarding OP:

Uncheck WFA Preorder DLC, that might fix it.

No, ignore the thread, you have to reinstall again, its just a bug with Steam's incremental content patching server :creeper:

Ami, I've had a bug before where steam or CoH2 doesn't delete the CoH2 temp files when you install the game. Go into "steam/steamapps" and check the size of your "downloading" and "temp" folders. It is possible you've experienced a similar issue.

I would also suggest checking the size of your CoH2 folder in "steam/steamapps/common" directory to make sure it is only ~20gig as it is possible the game files didn't properly uninstall.

Unless you have A LOT of custom maps CoH2 should only take up ~20 gigs of space with AA installed.

Interesting that you posted this thread too, I just had to uninstall it as well because of this patch. And it took me time before realizing why my PC didn't work.

But I just can't seem to have enough space on my SSD ever (and it's already a 256 and I felt greedy when I got it). To the point I install all the games on my non-SSD now, it's just not possible otherwise. At least it's pretty fast still, especially for multiplayer games I always wait the other players anyway.
