Any chess players or fans here?

Today is the final round 14 of the World Champion Candidates tournament in London. It's come down to a thrilling finale, with World #1 (2872) Magnus Carlsen (the 22 year old NONO phenom who has been shaking up the chess world since he was 14) sitting on 8.5 points, tied with RURU chess beast Vladimir Kramnik (2810), who also has 8.5 points. The winner will go on to face the current world champion, Vishy Anand, later in the year, for the title of World Chess Champion.

Magnus plays Peter Svidler and Kramnik plays Vassily Ivanchuk. The games start in 5 minutes. There is a live stream with commentary that will cover both matches here:

Another guy who is covering both matches via relay on twitch:

P.S... I play alot of chess online. Right now I'm using chesscube.com (full flash browser, no client required). Add me if you wanna play some 3 0 blitz... "Artifook"

I don't really play it much. Not my game.

Also, Magnus Carlsen is Norwegian, not danish. >=[

This is riveting right now. Magnus has around 1.5 minutes to make 12 moves in an incredibly dynamic position w attacking chances for both sides.

The flags in the OP are completely out of place... maybe it is because I'm running chrome?

Watching now. 5000+ viewers? That's pretty awesome.

I started chess when I was 6, because my father played a lot. So I also went to a chess club, playing tournaments for several years.
But then CoH really replaced chess, as it does not only address the aspect of strategic thinking, but also is more – how to say…..exciting. And it is more fun.

It is probably for that history that I often long for a “pause” every 10mins in the game, to think about it for 5 min ;-)
Hey, give me that as an ability – 200ammo for a 2min break. I would love it, especially in 2v2.

Good to see, chess is still around though!

Off-Topic, a shame that Defcon: Everybody Dies is mostly dead these days. Think it would have been a game for you, though not at graphically impressive (far from) as modern RTS it had several "chess-like" aspects, especially psychology with outmaneuvering your opponent(s).
Even had an ingame whiteboard for teamplay to draw attack plans etc. on the main screen for use in teamgames.

I used to compete nationally for elementary (never got really high though, I only started 2 years before high school), then I got worse since there's no one to play against.

I'm willing to get back to chess though!
