I'm wondering if the new expansion "focused on multiplayer" will feature rank badges ? Cause it made all the feeling to know that you beat someone of higher level, or loose to a challenger under you, it was all the flavor of competitive matches. In order to please every style of playing this game, comp stompers or players in customs can still have their badges lvl 20 without the 1v1 or 2v2 etc. sign. It would add, I think, a great move towards the competitive community which quite promote the game the most. Without hurting anyone.

What problem are with ladder system ?
There is nothing wrong with the ladder. The COH1 ranks made a good supplement to the ladder, and you could use the ranks as a shorthand for skill level. Ladder and ranks together, that's the good stuff.

I have to agree... But don't be defeatist
The problem is the flooding of comp stompers and 3v3 4v4 players that don't want to see ranks because "people will leave scared of high ranks" or "people will blame each others being lower rank"...
- I don't think flamers need ranks to flame
- Toning down competitive aspect of the game just because of newbies is quite crazy for a game with this potential.
- Let a chance for relic to be fair this time

There is extremely poor support for the non "comp stomp 3v3 4v4 scared of better players crowd" and to not scare that crowd Relic will restrain themselves from all eye candy that would in any way indicate that you are better player then your opponent/team mate.

a. reflects skill
b. doesn't stop at an arbitrary number
It's called Elo.
Not arbitrary the way level 1-20 was, as it can go as high as there is users to feed Elo points.
