Exactly! SO we did have rounds of national tournaments to see who would represent the countries with alot of people singing up. And yeah thee quality of some of the singel sign-up teams were lower.
How will the problem be solved when you are doing Axis vs. Allies? Have qualifying rounds with what teams? Axis v axis, or does someone who signed up for axis also have to play allies? What if they've done 1000 games as axis but non as allies?
If they've done 1000 games as Axis and none as Allies should they really expect to win?
I'd say get rid of the notion that you can sign up as a single faction. Let the best overall player win instead of the best OKW/Soviet/USF/Wehrmacht player.
Playing only a single faction works fine in Starcraft where you can have mirror matches and don't have to rely on an equal amount of a certain faction to signup.
If you stick to the no mirror matches rule, which seems currently prevalent and I suspect enjoys the support of most viewers, you are essentially forced into Best Of X and faction switching.
Which, while more accurately finding the better player, is time consuming and thus might not be ideal for qualifiers.
Mirrors in qualifiers might result in "1 faction heroes" but the expectation of later having to play their "off" faction I expect would help curb that.
