Game Health Update - July 7, 2021

Regional Server Support
- Players can now select regional servers in custom games
- These changes will also result in better overall ping times across automatch modes
- This should help with peak time lags that some players have been experiencing

Observer Mode Selection Fixes
- Fixes that now allow players to see and select observer mode in custom, friends and automatch modes
- Observer mode functionality was fixed in a previous update

Chat Fixes
- Fixes for a variety of issues with chat and chat rooms
- Some bugs persist in this area, and will be addressed in a subsequent update

Crash Fixes
- Fixed various crashes and performance issues

"Nis_playambient" console command reinstated
- Community requested this feature to be reinstated. It was available in CoH1 and removed in CoH2.

Yeah .. One does not simply crash or drop when cannot even join a game

Regional Server Support



It would be nice if this applied to Auto Match as well especially if you could choose what Regions to connect to such as Americas, Europe etc. This would be especially helpful for those living in Asia since they often get disconnected or lag the game.

Deeply, deeply appreciate all the hard works from you guys to make this happened. But I also find it to be quite disappointing since there is no server in Asia at all.

A bit selfish and I apologize in advance for asking however one feature I would like to see reinstated in COH 2 is the ability to do texture modding in COH 2.


I would like to make use of AI Upscaling which in essence, allows you to feed an algorithm a low-resolution image, and, based on training data it’s seen, it spits out a version that looks the same but has more pixels in it. Upscaling, as a general technique, has been around for a long time, but the use of AI has drastically improved the speed and quality of results.

This is possible with Company of Heroes 1. For example
















This would allow us to significantly enhance the graphics of the game without a significant drop in performance. It is possible to AI Upscale the textures in COH 2 but we do not have a way if importing them into the game like we did with COH 1.

Spectating friends games is a little dicey.

At first it shows a list of games for random people.
After toggling custom/friends, I got a list of friends games.

I also had one instance where NO friends games appeared. This may have happened since they are in EU and I am in East US??? Maybe we had selected different servers?

Having customs viewable is huge though!!!

Allows playing NIS animations without overriding player camera, e.g. ambient trains passing in maps with smoke effect emitters, choo-choo sounds

Texture modding support alone would REALLY help the Balance Team, since they would be able to create "new" units merely through changing their camouflage.

That said, I am happy we got THIS update.

Yeah texture modding would be the single greatest change for this game, especially since we had it before it was taken away.

Sound modding would be great as well since they could also create new voice lines as well (to go along with new units created with the new textures)
