Thread: WHY are soviets the center of winter balance patch18 Dec 2016, 12:26 PM maybe the balance team is simply working their way through issues piece by piece. be patient. small iterative but quick changes seem to be working much better than doing huge changes every 8 months that often cause more issues. i know you think there are more pressing issues but the team has obviously decided to make soviets their point of focus for changes. It's a debatable topic as to why but i think they are the faction with the most non-doc variables to account for. In: COH2 Balance

Barton got a some good laughs out of wada. but wada has actually asked rather nicely for barton to stop. That means barton has taken it too far and should extend the professional courtesy of respecting wadas feelings and putting an end to the harassment. This is the major issue that all you people crying "get a thick skin" dont understand. It is no longer fun for wada and he wants it to stop, why is that such a difficult thing to understand? And that's the developers of pressure opposing fronts coh1. As in they made th e essence engine. Everything since them has been a glorified official mod. The essence engine is what makes coh, even dow2 to some degree, what it is. There isn't even an rts that offer the same level of destruction, physics and unit handling. The code just needs a cleanup. It's so frustrating how there isn't even a market for this type of game. Only other competitor is the men of war series and that game gets rehashed more than call of duty. In: COH2 Gameplay

They did the homeworld remastering and the recent Deserts of Kharak RTS. I wish them the best, but I prefer the setting and general gameplay of COH. Gearbox has been around longer than relic. do you mean that Gearbox took in some of the old team? In: COH2 Gameplay

RTS isn't a ded genre yet but it does appear to be in a downward spiral with lack of appealing titles leading to less interest in the genre, in turn leading to less financial incentive for development of new releases. Seems like most releases are either remakes/'HD editions' of classic titles or 2nd-tier titles that offer an interest gimmick but lack polish. People hold up SC2 as the pinnacle of RTS, as if to argue that if that game can't succeed, no game ever will. That's just not true, SC2 is far from a perfect game. For all its simplicity it still has a steep learning curve and despite the shiny graphics it retains an ugly and extremely 'gamey' aesthetic. From a single player perspective it has become excessively campy and suffers from Blizzard's tendency to rehash the same themes and plot lines. So I think there is still potential for a successful RTS if it can get that winning combination of accessibility, innovation, polish and marketing, although of course that's much easier said than done. For CoH3, that would mean focusing more on its strengths, learning from past mistakes instead of repeating them, driving sales through good marketing (ideally timed closely with the next big WW2 movie/TV series), then supporting the game through thoughtful patches and worthwhile DLC. The thing about blizzard is that they are the kings of updating and adding new and meaningful content to their games. While some people might complain, the quality of their patching is miles ahead of whatever relic puts out. Sure, relic is better than before at the frequency of patching (coh1 days) but their patches always feel 60%-80% done. There's always something missing, wrong or just plain old fucked up. It may seem like a worthy effort to you newer players but us older guys are pretty worn out by it. In: Lobby

I'm sure my 71 posts have done far less damage than your 600 or soo posts of drivel. Or even made it a Fighting Position upgrade; upgrade it to mortar position, and any unit you put in will fire mortars. People cry cancer for any static positions in this game. That would probably not be welcomed. I'm more in the camp that believes usf did not need a mortar in t0 but simply a price reduction on the cost to throw grenades and smoke. something like a 30-50% decrease in munitions. miragefla's changes to damage seem good but that would just make a useless mortar in the mid/late game. pinpoint accuracy with a long travel time seems like the best stat change for the mortar. this allows it to counter mg's. it's primary reason for existing i presume In: COH2 Balance
