If you want to like the CoH franchise, you have to accept RNGesus into your heart first.

That's a smart way of looking at things.

studied business information systems (with a focus on the "business/economics" part) before switching to computer science... a little bit actually stuck ;-)

my very first game i played ended with my opponent dropping (i stayed in the game, unable to control my units, but my ressources were accumulating and the VPs were ticking). he messaged me (while i was still in game) about how i drophacked him... (fyi, i stayed in game, was unable to cap any VPs and lost due to drain... the game showed up as a loss for me, and win for my opponent, so at least it got that right...)

i have yet to finish a game normally, most games end in disconnects within the first few minutes of gameplay. custom games are probably even worse, because you can't connect to half of the games that are shown... sometimes you just played a custom game and go back to search a new one, only to see the game that you just finished playing still showing up after several refreshes (it even shows you being in the game lobby).

in the end, i'm still grateful for the support it's still getting and that we at least have the map unticking back. leaderboards are supposed to be better now too, don't really know about that though.

I think the game still has a lot of potential to be good and Relic have been in this position before with a lot of players dropping out/not playing the game in vcoh. It was their continued support of vCoH that kept people coming back and playing and new people buying the game and they are more than capable of recognizing their mistakes with CoH2 and making changes accordingly.

From a players point of view though, you don't have to get angry about coh2 if you don't like it currently, just leave and play something else there are plenty more fun games out there to play and a lot of good ones are free on steam too. You don't have to endure CoH2 now if you think it's not fun, simply don't buy the micro transactions online and if the game is still not fun when the expansion comes around don't buy it.

Yeah... I'm not angry, i'm disappointed and pretty much have been since beta (in alpha, the state of the game was somewhat excusesable, the lack of changes from alpha to beta etc. somewhat turned me off). I've played 5 games since release. I didn't like the state of the game then, and from what i've heard i won't like it now. As i mentioned earlier: i think the game has potential, but the more time passes and the more DLC released, the less faith i have in the game being good or even great at some point in time.

Inverse, DevM, Trainz, NoLuckyStrike, Sepha and HolyHammer summed it up quite well.

Viewed individually, as a separate entity that has nothing to do with the original CoH, CoH 2 is not a bad game (i'd probably call it decent). It has it's moments, but nothing that i'd continue playing for weeks or months after finishing the campaign.

The fundamental flaws that CoH2 has right now have been mentioned in Alpha (afaik, had no access to the forums) and in Beta too (some beta forum members might recall my giant post that evolved into a pretty heated discussion... btw, thanks for threatening to close my thread because i refused to feed the trolls, ImperialDane!). These fundamentally flawed game mechanics and the general approach the devs had seemingly taken has not changed since.

I fully understand all the frustration that has been voiced here, as i share the feeling. I can't play CoH2 (and pretty much haven't after release) despite having pre-ordered it pretty much the second i saw it go up on Steam, simply because when i play it i can't help but think of what it could have been, hadn't they changed a lot of what made CoH1 great, while keeping a lot of what was wrong with it.

While i still feel like CoH2 has the potential to be a good, maybe even a great game (given a lot of changes), my hopes for this happening are fading away (and what i hear from players that are still playing is not exactly encouraging).

tl;dr:
Game is not what it could have been. Could be fixed, but probably won't.


Edit: btw i also agree with budwise in that CoH was better than CoH2 is... mainly because it was a lot closer to CoH. The balance might have been a nightmare (and there were other things that were wrong with it too, but after all, it was still a beta), but it was still a lot of fun (even if it was just because almost every commander had some sort of ridiculously overpowered ability) and, being targeted at the more casual players, could have potentially made a lot of money i think.
