The reason why Cheesey play styles is such a problem for Soviets is because all of their core standard units such as Conscripts, Penals, Combat Engineers and Shocks are not only really crappy, but also don't scale well at all into the late game otherwise you wouldn't always see Soviets depend on Maxim/Sniper/Guard/M3 play.
Even Penals are okay but really cheesey with the flamer, but the rifle damage is just atrocious. It should be evened out.
But I agree, it's also the same for Wehrmacht. Wehrmacht is just spam LMG Grens all day, but everything else is rather underwhelming. The problem is though the nature of WFA armies and their high DPS means balancing the factions around them compared to the core factions is going to cause a lot of problems.
Shocks are crappy to you? They are pretty awesome to me. Throw some smoke in front of obers and if they don't move they all die. Hide them behind a fence and bait the enemy with some weak con squad or something, and the enemy squad...they all die. I don't know what kind of monsters you need to make up a good squad, shocks are pretty damn good. |
I'm still finding it useful. I don't know why people seemed to think that direct hits aren't going to wipe squads. They were doing that before july22, just no one was building and using kats. How often during vcoh2 did you have an opportunity to drive close range to ostheer base and kat the infantry at the hq? That's almost impossible, but not with OKW.
Sitting in the middle of the map it's easy to receive a close range kat blast. In that situation, even the pre 7/22 kat would obliterate everything at the hq. Those rockets each do enough to kill whatever infantry get's hit directly. usually those infantry are not at full health either. So for that situation, I think it was a matter of people not building it which made the 7/22 kat seem like more than it was. The only problem with the 7/22 kat was the rockets obliterating all buildings pretty quickly (1 or 2 volleys).
Right now if your tightly packed axis squad eats a rocket, they are all going to die. Same for all the other rockets in the game. So in that respect it's normal to have squad wipes and it's pretty close to impossible to keep these units relevant without losing that attribute. |
So that was a poor replay defense? |
If I get pwned again I'll be sure to make you a video, it'll be fun. |
I hope not DOW3, that would really suck if Cynthia came to the CoH2 fansite to get us pumped for DoW. |
Did you factor criticals into that or stg44 doesn't do that? I'll admit maybe it was 2 seconds and not 1, but it's pretty damn fast, lol. |

i would go the direction i came from since, you know, i just drove that way.
also, i wouldnt consider that "changing the circumstances". do you frequently button tanks with guards then just sit there for the duration of the ability? people typically button tanks so they can flank them or keep them in front of AT guns.
if you want to talk real life, im pretty sure a tank crew wouldnt say "lets sit here for a while, im sure their ability will be on cooldown soon"
Unfortunately the real life argument did come up earlier, so yes this is irl. There certainly is circumstances that infantry would button a tank without follow up from tank support. If I'm not mistaken it's in the most famous recorded instance from that British hero. I've also done it and had it done to me, in-game, with no follow up. I bet it's happened to you anyone else that plays. The point being that when your really in that cramped box it's much harder to make a decision than when your behind a keyboard and mouse with a god-eye view. |
I hope it involves an m26 or su100 or jagdpanther, since it's not more warspoils info we all want. |
I hate the Soviet faction in this game with a passion. When playing them, I´m bored, when seeing a Soviet opponent on the loading screen, I´m like: "Not Soviets again."
They feel incredibly cheesy.
You either have to face 6 men weapon crews which are so robust, that they can - even if you counter them properly - delay you and slow the game down, so it´s no longer fun.
Or you face an annoying dual sniper combination with Guards and mines. Try reaching those snipers.
I´ve played games as Soviets losing only a 4th of the units the enemy player lost, because he couldn´t reach mine.
Throw in the ISU or T-34/85 spam with mark target late game and the bullcrap is complete.
I wouldn´t call it a huge balance issue, but I have no fun at all playing versus most Soviet players. It´s incredibly dull. And yes, I prefer the mobile US meta. At least you can try to kill that, Maxims and snipers are a fucking cancer.
That's amazing, you must be rank 1. Wait are you Jesulin in disguise?! Although when Jesulin's units are properly countered even he loses them, so I would like learn how this is done.
I've had some instances where I had my 6 man maxim squad full health properly countered by some sturmpio's and all 6 of them died in like a second. Please share your secret of the dark arts with the rest of us! |
