But the real question is: "why show it at all?"
Or better yet: "why not show it in a more acceptable manner?"
Or even better: "why not show dirt on both sides?"
If you think that I am personally offended by the game (which I take by your tone to be the case), I am not. I, however, am not Russian either. You cannot expect people of the nation being portrayed to be as impersonal about it as a third-party.
By your logic, you are saying that it is absolutely fine to show a game about the Roman Catholic Church where you take control of a priest and do inappropriate things to little boys. This is just offensive and wrong, no matter if it had or had not happened at some point in real life. Even if it does not represent every Catholic priest, do you really think Catholics would be fine with their religious leaders being portrayed this way?
Yeah, I didn't think so.
There is a reason why Activision gave players an option to skip the Moscow airport massacre level in MW2. |
The argument is that Relic chose not to show the war crimes of any other nation in their games with the Soviet Union being the sole exception.
Considering that the Soviets are also the protagonists of this game, all the special attention to war crimes can be seen as a statement or stance from Relic which can easily be taken as offensive.
Let's face it: it does seem extremely unlikely that a whole squad would be shot for saving a superior officer against overwhelming odds.
I think if Relic simply imitated CoD: World at War and had Soviet troops gunning down and molotov'ing surrendering Germans, it would have been a much more acceptable portrayal of "war crimes" than the particular events that took place in the game. |
Ohh yeah I forgot about the heavy mortar.
You can still use mortar to do some damage though.
But let me follow your logic.
You want unit that cost 360 manpower (50% more expensive - I feel like I don't stress this argument strong enough) to have:
- Range smaller than Maxims and MG-42 so it can be rifle naded without walking into its firing arc,
- Firing arc equal of that of a Maxim,
- Damage equal of that of a Maxim,
- Less than 6 men in the squad?
- and you want this unit to be built from T2?
- and be CP2 at leat?
Seriously...
Seriously? He only said the first thing.
I know Nullist here has a bad reputation on this forum and there was a point where I felt it was warranted but now you guys just troll him for the sake of trolling, which makes you a worse troll than you say he is, in case you didn't know.
So shut your mouth, troll.
This community seriously needs to get its shit together because with the way this game is currently going it's never going to get to a consistently playable state, nevermind balanced. |
Problem with this line of thought is that right now the German PAK with veterancy is actually pretty good (up to -50% reload speed, +30% penetration, stun, and camo), which makes up for its relatively weak presence at vet0. And it does not take much for an AT gun to vet up, assuming it's shooting at actual tanks.
This is all fine and dandy until we bring Elite Troops into the equation and start insta plopping Vet2 Paks. Any buffs to the AT gun are going to translate very badly when this commander is used (any buffs to German units in general, tbh).
Also don't forget that Relic probably has no intention of making Industry underpowered. This game has become nearly impossible to balance with the new commanders. |
I think the vehicle pathing is just getting worse and worse in this game. Tanks get stuck on each other constantly and the AI can't figure for the life of it how to become unstuck (they'll turn one way only to turn back the other way, etc.). They often get stuck on a tiny rock or a pothole (or better yet, a decrewed MG or mortar) but will blow through a derelict truck just fine (how is this logical?). Massive 3-seconds-or-up input delay do not help things at all - you'll likely just get more stuck.
Also, if a tank loses its current target (dies or moves out of LoS), the tank will stop, move in the opposite direction for a second, stop, and then resume moving. This behaviour is absolutely retarded and needs to be fixed. I've never seen something this dumb in an RTS that is micro-oriented. |
Which, incidentally, is exactly the same as a checkers board.
But at risk of conjuring memories of standardized tests from bygone decades: "COH2:CoH::Checkers:Chess" seems rather accurate.
Ironic, isn't it?
It's the same board, but strategic depth all depends on which of the two games you want to play.
Now, in reference to Company of Heroes, replace the word "board" with "franchise." |
@OP: Please don't give Relic any more dumb ideas. Thanks. |
Company of Heroes 2 is about as competitive as playing checkers on a chess board. |
The problem with the soviet industry is in the FUEL. They get a lot of fuel fast and there is the core problem. When you have the fuel building faster or slower wont matter.
What they could do is maybe move it to 2-3 CP, this way the germans would have some time to prepare. Also it will still boost the soviets with more fuel and they can pump out more tanks late game.
Even if it came in at 1CP it would a lot better than it is now.
All of the 0CP commanders are f*cked up in some way. Why'd they even start that trend is beyond me. |
The patch itself was great but the commanders itself are horribly balanced. This is not only Relic's balance team fault but the fools who are testing these commanders in the beta version. I laughed hysterically when Brad said, "Don't worry, we heavily balanced these commanders" This game can't be taken seriously anymore, especially if they listen to idiots in the beta test instead of top players for balance advice.
For real? |
