@Cruzz, a flanking T-34 can now chew up a P-IV, which is basically the level of buff they needed. They can also mince an Ostwind head on, which is probably a good change. They're also even cheaper in terms of fuel.
While I like the SU-85 change, it's still obviously messing with a lot of the balance right now. Doesn't need massive changes but something to the movement speed or damage or health.
@Poryspank, the German sniper probably could do with an HP increase to make him less likely to just die to stray bullets and mortar shells and things. At 80 HP he'd be identical to the Soviet sniper team in overall health. I'm honestly finding getting a counter-snipe off less problematic than just generally keeping him alive in the same scenarios a Soviet sniper team would just retreat out of.
@PQumsieh - I heard you say in the stream that the StuG is much better vs. T-34s than the SU-85 (I agree, at least last patch). So, I'd ask whether the StuG vs SU-85 line-up is likely to get made a bit closer?
Currently, it seems like the cost difference between the two units doesn't match their difference in utility, especially against each other (an SU-85 seems to be able to 2-shot a StuG sometimes, as well as being generally better at more or less everything for a not massively higher cost). |
It needs to be the price of a Brummbar, a Brummbar needs to be the price of it. Discourage base rushing and all that. Currently you can trade them one for one with P-IVs or for a couple of infantry squads and not feel bad about yourself just because they're so cheap.
Edit: On the doctrine... while I don't think it's as synergistic as Guard Motor or something, Shocks are pretty good (is it just me or is their grenade worse than the guard one...) if a little too pricey, ATG camouflage is actually alright and the IS-2 is pretty bad.
The damage/armour I'm kind of alright with but the cost doesn't even come close to lining up with them. |
This isn't even argument. I build HMGs to deny space and stall attacks. The maxim MG fails at this job, therefore I don't build it. I don't build HMGs for DPS purposes, because there are other units that are better at DPS.
I use maxims for exactly that. Depending on the map, they work alright. They make up for the weaker suppression and field of fire by being much harder to decrew and much lower risk, as well as the very quick turning. They can usually suppress infantry reasonably fast, and they aren't up against molotovs and oorah, nor are they 4-man squads against better Soviet snipers. In a narrow lane, they're really just as good as an MG-42 on balance. In a building they're better than one. |
Snipers, light vehicles, and the best counter: rifle grenades.
Soviet machine guns don't suppress quickly and it is almost guaranteed that you can attack them with a rifle grenade, even head on.
And yes of course, the mortar HT.
Take the map as aggressively as you can. If your opponent gets tier2 quickly, he is going to lose a squad to do it (200+ manpower building + build time).
I don't find tier 2 very effective as a soviet player in 1v1, especially early game.
You can normally hit with a riflenade (which is why grens are more problematic head-on than P-grens) but often it'll just be a waste of munitions for 2 kills or something. Would not recommend Ostheer sniper (*maybe* on Pripyat Winter but otherwise...) in any scenario really. Much too squishy.
I'd recommend the MHT wholeheartedly as an anti-weapons team spam thing for the Ostheer. Makes a huge difference for your ability to put pressure on things, make AT guns relocate. On a littleish map you can use it as a general anti-capping tool as well.
Personally, if I'm going Tier 2 it's almost always after 2 or 3 conscripts. Going straight to it makes you too vulnerable to vehicles. |
I think it's pretty good with the good old SU-85 of OPness and with the T-2 units. You need to get the LOS to use it. Don't have the stats, there's a chance to suppress, chance to pin and chance to force retreat, I think. Don't know what the balance is, exactly. Definitely useful as a blob counter, flank counter, supporting infantry counter etc. etc.
@Cuatro - I think strafe needs to be nerfed rather than the other way round. |
Can happen (not common though). The StuG has pretty small target size and good penetration so you may have had a few misses. If the StuG has vet it can also use a tank shock/stunning ability. But if you engage at range, the StuG is outranged and can't pursue because of speed. Also, you can 2-shot a StuG with an SU-85. |
My main concern at the moment is the amount of mutual lags and lag kicks I see. I imagine it's more of a big deal where I am in the ladder than at the very competitive level but I'm finding a lot of games where an opponent's PC can't handle the blizzards or they're in Australia and the P2P cba with it or something and I get handed a loss when they drop or get kicked.
If this is somewhat prevalent then I think it's going to suppress the playerbase quite a lot. Noone wants to be halfway through a decent game, get the edge then get handed a loss thanks to something they know isn't their own PC or internet. |
It's *really* pricey and requires a big sacrifice, so I'm OK with the power level. The Tiger and IS-2 need a bit of a buff to catch up with it rather than vice versa. |
And then it's fucking ridiculous when you have SU-85s out.
What you pick? Something viable or something overpowered?
Mark Target is fine except for the fact it lasts ridiculously long. The duration should be reduced.
SU-85s are overpowered without it, tbh. Removing it will punish a lot of legit strategies (whether that's SU-76, T-34 + T-70, guards, ZIS guns...) while not really hurting the SU-85s very much. We'll see how it works with the SU-85 after the SU-85 changes that are somewhere around the corner.
Maybe the duration could take a cut. |
I was playing the Kharkov (I think) theatre of war AI battle earlier and I noticed that the StuG IIIs in Theatre of War didn't get tank smoke from Panzer Tactician. Everything else I had seemed to have so I presume it's just something to be changed on the 1941 version of the StuG. |
