Relic should have added more upgrades for the soviets they are just seem boring to play in the long run.
No tank upgun or Bar upgrade equivalent for soviets. I wish there would a fuel upgrade for conscipts that gives them Svt40 or T34/85 unlock/upgun.
I'd like some diversification too but wanting upguns and bar equivalents... why not just play vCoH? It is not the american faction.
Conscripts are already incredibly versatile, in some ways more than riflemen ever were. |
In its current state, I always go for the PIV, as it is the safer option.
If the enemy is good with AT guns, he will deny my Ostwind from the most critical spot of the map on that first engagement. If he goes the tank way, the T34 will kill or maim the Ostwind to a point where its usefulness decreases (the ostwind can kill the t34 though).
The PIV is decent at decrewing AT guns if flanking, decent at shooting infantry and good against most soviet vehicles. |
Doesn't it also lightly damage and stun tanks? Ah no, 30 penetration isn't enough vs. medium+ tanks and I can't find any mention of the stunning mechanic on coh2stats...
I think this is its stat page:
http://coh-moderncombat.com/CoH2Stats/Axis/Weapons/stuka_ab23_fragmentation_bomb_mp.html
(don't be fooled by the "smoke bomb" title)
50-80 damage means that it can one shot infantry, but normally won't do so. Of course the whole think seems to consist of several of those explosions so infantry hit by multiple of them will die.
It is kinda unique in that it bursts like an mg would.
Its AoE radius is pretty good compared to most other explosive weapons and grenades.
So overall, it will probably leave back more survivors than a railway artillery strike but it will also arrive much faster and will hit more consistently (many small hits vs. 3 huge hits). In the end, if it catches a blob some squads may survive but they surely are in no fighting condition and will bleed a lot of MP.
I think it probably isn't such a bad ability but as Ostheer you are too often munitions starved so you won't be able to use it often.
I agree that it deals decent enough damage to warrant a retreat, but by the time it arrives, at 5CP's, it dwarves its usefulness in any game type (1v1 or 2v2). A strafing run (which needs revision) is only 3CP's, and 33% cheaper. Not only that, its the only explosive ability with a range of damage, all the other ones I found were static damage (80-80, 200-200, etc) It is this inconsistency that got me thinking...
BTW, what does the APDS categories mean under vs supressed targets and pinned targets?

Has anyone else noticed that this doctrinal ability is very weak/situational for its cost?
It lands fairly quickly (I feel the light artillery barrage takes longer), but it usually brings most squads down to maybe half health, instead of killing a few. Any other form of artillery is more efficient than spending 180 muns on a 5cp ability (panzerwerfers are free barrages, after all).
I think they should maybe swap the prices with Stuka Dive Bomber, which deals excellent damage all around: 160mun for fragmentation barrage, 180muns (or 200) for Stuka Dive Bomb.
Maybe im not using it right: Drop it on huge blob of supressed soviet nifantry. No kills/heavy damage unless they were severely wounded. |
Their abilities are mainly what forces them towards a close range or long range strength.
There's also the LMG42 upgrade: its devastating at close range, but the soldier has to dance around a little before shooting, which is NOT good if they catch you at short range.

Thanks for sharing the replay... if you get the points and can spare the fuel, mortar HT is also good. I think I'm in love with the Spearhead doctrine (lvl 45 strafing Opels probably is probably a bit stronger against non-maxim but feels lame).
The spearhead doctrine is my favorite one for axis, so far. Its got a semi strong early, and a tiger for late game (weak middle). Frag bombs suck, though.
As for mortars vs HTD: they work wonders, but if the enemy is using a heavy conscript strategy (3 or more), as a german you are losing some mobility with that mortar: it can be flanked easily by the swarm. Of course, micro, map knowledge and skill plays into this. |
The explosive round is completely useless, compared to the flare. By the time you have access to it, the enemy rarely walks up with lonely squads, and there's rarely any one unit you *need* to stun amongst soviet infantry (except perhaps, approaching shock troops, which come en masse anyway).
The German sniper is supposed to get some faster rate of fire with vet. Anyone know what this bonus is? |
They sent a heads up like 20 hours ago lol, then edited 10 hours after that. |
The fact is that it would be fine if the 80 Munitions amounted to serious damage to squads. But it doesnt. In CoH1 80 munitions bought me 3 VERY effective and damaging mines.
Hell, in vCoh, I'd wait a little for tommies and it'd bring back its cost in Rangers fairly quick lol. Or shreks to downright murder shermans and M8's. |
This doesnt sound like a hack. Do you have any evidence of this being a hack, or could it perhaps be that we had server maintenance today?
Remember: not everything that drops is a hack. |
