I wouldn't go as far as to say the IS-2 primarily AI, I'd say it's a generalist heavy tank. It can go toe to toe with a Panther or Tiger and sometimes come out on top, but with much more powerful anti infantry capabilities than either of those. It also dominates all German medium armor. |
Was your panther vet 2? if so it's upped frontal armor will bounce shots from an IS2 pretty consistently. |
Yea, but it's range is longer than it's LoS.. unless you have it focused, I believe. |
Lol, I just watched an SNF that had the Relic developer on it. I think it was Barton against someone on Semois. Barton built a Brumbar and Ami got all pumped, you know how he gets. There was this big build up to it's first shot and then it killed like 1 member on a Zis squad and then there was this awkward silence, lmao. It was hilarious. Might have to find that clip.
You have to use the attack ground just to the left or right and slightly behind the gun shield, the auto-aim has a nasty habit of aiming for that one guy that is way far away from the rest of the squad, it's annoying as hell. |
Well, for starters the IS-2 has a 122mm gun with HE rounds, while the tiger has an 88mm gun with HE rounds (I believe). That explains the squad wipe ability of the IS-2. I'm not totally familiar with the penetration tables but I think the the Tiger should penetrate every tank the Russians have nearly 100% of the time aside from the front armor on the IS-2.
IS-2 vs Tiger is pretty evenly matched from my experience, with who has better tank micro being the victor (IE stuttering your tank for each shot)with a bit of RNG.
If you're looking to 1 shot Russian squads go for the sturmpanzer IV, thing is awesome. |
More t34/76 were built than t34/85. Plus I think that the point is that if you could build t34/85 there really wouldn't be much of a point to building the regular t34. And they're not cruddy they just have to be used properly. |
They are effective at medium range, maybe who you are shooting at is in cover? A large reason they are so effective at close range is because you flank behind their cover. If you're up against shocks or cons with ppsh keep them at medium range behind cover and they'll be very effective. |
I've been having success with this doctrine going ost>mg>ost>mg>ost>gren/mg. The MGs usually let me push them off the map early and get both fuels or at least deny them their fuel for a period of time. If they've gone for scout cars I'll get the Gren Squad as the ostruppen and grens are enough to mitigate the m3s with their fausts. if they are spamming them then I'll get an upgunned scout car.
I'll usually skip t3 and go for t4 and bridge the gap with a pak and pgrens with shrecks. If I've been able to push them off their fuel for long enough I'll be able to get a sturmpanzer out at about the time they have their first t34. I'll go for a panther if I suspect their going for 85's or an IS 2. |
This reminded me of the beta days of the invincible panther. Those days of yore.
In regards to OP, as it has been stated previously, use infantry AT initially and then move in with armor to finish it off, neutralizing it's mobility is they key.
That being said, is is largely regarded as being the most effective tank of WWII (some believe it is the progenitor to our modern MBTs) and so you should be afraid of it. |
Finally found a 1v1 strategy that seems to work fairly well and it involves ostruppen and MG42s. Being pidgeonholed into one strategy, however, still highlights the fact that this is an imbalance.
On a more positive note, and in regard to CieZ's post above. I think that a fix is certainly on the way and that they delay is likely due to the holidays. |
