From a design perspective, the game just needs to be good, competitive, and fun to watch/play. It also needs to be easy to understand what is happening and who is winning for people that don't play the game.
i agree 100% with that now that you have included competetive!
Were you even around back then (vCoH)? Yeah they re-thought the shit out of the kangaroo for about a year without patching the game. And all those times strafing runs alternated between broken OP and useless with months on end going by. They pushed it to the limits so hard...
I am not talking about balancing (at least they mad 2.602 with pros). Its rather about the fundamentals of the game, things like popcap, upkeep, side armor, amount of RNG, ressource points, ...
vcoh has a lot more thought put into that than coh2
|
well, i can only speak based on the things they say in interviews and the stuff they produce.
for coh2 i have never read about that "pushing it to the limits" or "rethink every mechanic until its perfect", but for vcoh that has been true and i think it shows |
I think you're being to cynical about why people make video games. Yes of course money comes into it since without my money the industry wouldn't exist, but the prime motivation for developers (people) is to create great games.
i don't think that most developers strive for great games, most of them are fine with good games. vcoh was developed with a 95 metacritic score in mind and in my opinion you can feel the difference between that and the mindset for coh2. regardless of the thq trouble coh2 was faulty at its core, mechanics like blizzards and abandoning clearly show that the thought process behind it was shallow. |
You don't design a game to be an esport. You design a game that is GOOD and FUN to play, even for casuals, and then you nurture the community into an esports scene.
i disagree aswell, if you don't hammer down the most important things for esport in your design it is gonna fail. Enough strategic depth has to be there!
Look at hearthstone, it is fun to play and well designed in that aspect, but many people belive that it isn't really competetive and many pro players there are frustrated |
I suggest you refrain from such bold and general statements before you haven't improved your own gameplay.
alright, then challenge my points. they may be general, but i dont think that they are bold. i just marked the things that are often used in 1v1 and 2v2, and then i made a logical conclusion
assuming you have a perfectly balanced and interesting 1v1, balancing the game for 4v4 can only make 1v1 less interesting. that is simple mathmatics. |
The Axis have better unit in each categories.
you are just plain wrong
take 1 sov, 1 usf and 2 brits
mark target, calliopes (stronger than any axis arty), comets (better than all allied tanks), arty cover, usf infantry, you still have a lot of strong stuff, its just not that OP anymore
Jagdtiger, Elefant, spotting scopes, Panther spam, Comet spam, Calliope spam, double Walking Stuka, forward retreat points, vet5 obers, simcity and blobs in general - all those things are non-existant in 1v1 and could be changed without upsetting the balance in 1v1
of course you would upset the balance, and big time of course. i have marked the things in green you cannot chnage without changing the 1v1 balance and the things in red that are important in 2v2 AT (arguably a competetive format aswell)
^ This
come on man, you should know better. the only sensible thing to change is ressource income and more importantly cache income in 4v4, that would balance it much better
or do you want to balance the game for 4v4 annihilation on <insert camper map> aswell? |
i would suggest a supression buff as ability (only when set-up), but not instantly, but a buff that is building up. that way, the maxim can stop a brainless blob, if you plan ahead and activate this ability before the blob runs in your arc. and it fits the theme of the water-cooledm such fire, much wow platform |
So my "flaming" isn't nonsensical.
you have made some good points on how relic has fucked up (and they have done so big time), but your point would have much more impact if it didnt contain this massive amount of narcissism
btt:
dow3 is different, still coh2 players will have a much easier time adapting to its concept than other playres, therefore getting coh2 pros to test the game would have been a) an easy way for good feedback and b) a nice way to introduce the coh2 community to dow3. but it seems that relic is taking the same approach with dow 3 as they took with coh2 and that is a path to failure.... |
those don't matter that much as long as you treat them well |
Case: Phanteks Enthoo Pro Titannium Green Windowed - Full Tower Case
this case is a BEAST, i have it myself and it is very good
About the PSU, still kinda sad that none of the PSU mentioned at around 100 Euro are available here, man I did not know about some of those brands (like nobody I've met known about Seasonic or Phanteks).
yeah, PSUs are quite difficult. but they sell the Seasonic G650 - 80 Plus Gold PSU, which is the 650w version of the g550, so a tad oversized, but it should serve you well
but that list and a good ssd will be a very good pc for the next years, with the option to severely overclock later on |
