Could always try to post a replay and ask for specific input. People gave some suggestions, but it's hard to provide any meaningful feedback without knowing what actually happened.

Hard to say "what you can do different" without knowing what specifically happened.
When I'm being shelled by indirect, a common thing I do is constantly move units away from where they were (this means you have to give up "good" spots quite often to setup somewhere else).
Also, counter the indirect with an ability or unit that punishes it. Early on -- luchs dive or infantry flank. Later, as you mentioned, Stuka (but obviously you should be ready for a tank -- so rak + mine or double rak).
If you find it's a consistent issue -- try using the unit in question, and see how you get countered.

Well, it gives its own spotting ability, so yeah I guess you do "need" it, but it's provided automatically (mostly, anyway).
I don't think it's weak, so much as it's a gimmick/sucker punch. |
Yeah, well, there are different approaches of how you can tackle this (see e.g. Bootstrapping).
Details vary, but the idea is basically that instead of computing the win% from all games, you use different subsets of games and compute win% only for those. You end up with a different value for each subset. You can then estimate the devitation from the values for the different subsets.
I am familiar with Bootstrapping (though haven't really used it in... well, forever I guess outside of Uni). Thanks for the explanation though, I'll stop derailing the thread now ;D

Standard deviations are given for the win% and are estimated with a bootstrapping method.
It's a pretty rough estimate anyways, in particular given the low number of samples and that I ignore the granularity of the problem. Main reason for me to include anything like that is mostly to remind people that they should take these numbers with a grain of salt and not start threads like "Stats prove Axis wins 51% of time, nerf plz!"
I completely understand, I'm actually curious about the calculation outside of COH2 and am asking it from the mindset of statistics. I don't care to make grand assumptions about balance from these values, though I appreciate you sharing them if only to see what's popular and what's not.
I'm used to St. Dev = https://study.com/cimages/multimages/16/standard-deviation-formulas.jpg but those require ratio/interval data, and I was curious what you used to get an St.Dev for categorical variables.

Thanks for your work.
I'd like to ask, since faction pick is a categorical choice, what are you using to calculate standard deviation? |
Stumbo even gave 'em a last minute handicap ;DDDD
Jokes aside, was a good game. Saw this from Stuve's stream and I LOL'd hard when Kimbo dropped. |
Only for the MG upgrade of the new concrete bunkers
So the normal bunker will still be popcap free?
da fek mang |
They're adding popcap to it in the upcoming patch, right?
That'll go a long way to help. Too bad aboot the sight. |
Isn't... OKW an offensive faction?
Anyway, p. sure the guy wasn't saying USF should get eye-in-the-sky flares, but rather they currently do have riflemen flares.
I think pfusiliers get it too, and maybe jaegers? |
