thats exactly what something like mp40 volks allows. right now you WILL get STG volks, always. because its all they got and there is no downside. no reason not to. i would propose something like:
rifle volks- sandbag, flame nade, snare. 2 weapon slots
mp40 volks- smoke nade, HE nade, better RA, close range dps takes up 2 slots
STG volks- could be something new, doctrinal or maybe another bonus for a full tech (say gives 2 STgs like now, but for free to all volks, making both versions better and helping with the scaling issues without having a massive power spike there are a number of potential directions)
You seem to be confused
If the map fits it, Mp40 volks are much better than stg volks in late game. Their smoke and grenade alone makes them much better, and when they are vetted their extra RA bonus makes them an actually durable mainline. Not only that but mp40s scale better. The problem is not that mp40s aren't good or stg44 are too good, the problem is that OKW isn't coh Wehrmacht and doesn't have Grenadiers with double mg42 right after volks.
Also what you proposed is for stg44 to have even a bigger powerspike by removing the muni dump

UKF doesnt have 200+ alpha strike handheld nor does Soviet, unless you mean AT nade barrage or satchel.
Large alpha strike is brutally punishing, its why no one likes being on the receiving end of shock artillery or a P4/Sherman HE shell. Reducing that is probably healthy for the game.

Fact is that OKW doesn't have AT squads that can be a deterrent to light vehicles like re double zook, Panzergrens or RE, but Raketenwerfer is the worst at guns against light vehicles, while being more or less in line with others against mediums and heavies, is another leftover of bad faction design. |

The irony of OKW is that they were supposed to have a shitty AT gun because they were having lots of handheld AT infantry but ended up being the only faction without 160+ alpha strike AT infantry squad

First of all there's no reason to be THIS passive aggressive.
Assgrens and stormtroopers are doctrinal compared to Panzergrens, pioneers have nothing to do with any of those units and are a normal flamethrower squad. All those units are in different doctrines. The issue with stormtroopers for a long time was that they overlapped with Panzergrenadiers, to the point that they were reworked as a completely different unit with camo and mp40 + a tactical ambush ability. Sturmpioneers ARE NOT like Panzergrenadiers, their STG is more similar to an SMG.
OKW is too dependant on Volks, and as the unit got worse the faction 1vs1 viability also got worse. Maybe the best solution isn't replacing volks with bandaid upgrade volks but start tackling the actual issues.
If Sturmpioneers struggle with combat tasks (something I consider true, even after the veterancy requirement nerfs), then they should receive proper buffs in their scaling, first of all by frontloading some combat buffs instead of a grenade ability, for example by replacing their stgs with Panzergrenadiers stgs by vet 1, and since OKW infantry AT stock department is so lacking, give Sturms the ability to remove their engineer skills completely to have 2 shrecks
Mp40 volks are more viable in late game because the unit gets an extra RA boost and the poor veterancy resonates better with the 5 men mp40 squad than with 2 stg44 and 3 kar98k. Rebalancing the STG upgrade by itself means inevitably leaving the unit veterancy as lacking. It's a wrong process and is going to bring issues in the long term. First we should look at what needs to change to improve the unit in late game, and if it has to be dps bonuses, durability bonuses or reinforce cost reduction. Only after that we could discuss replacing Stgs |

see this is what im saying OKW litreally has no use for puma or JP4 when you can buy 2 of this and just nuke vechiles and run away while only being weak to grenades or large arty all i want is this unit to be limited to Tier 1 BG HQ or Mech HQ at Tier 2 that way players will be forced to buy a puma to deal with a halftrack or a light tank and JP4 in an emergency to deal with a medium tank
Raketenwerfers work the same as any other AT gun, they won't be able to carry a player or cover every corner of the map, so Puma definetly has a role |
If Volks lose their non doctrinal stg, their upgrade must be a long range oriented upgrade, either a veteran squad leader obersoldaten with an oberspldaten kar 98k, make the squad a 6 men rifle squad, or a long range weapon. Not all maps fit smgs |
Plus it adds a DYNAMIC upgrade instead of a no-brainer upgrade whilst also freeing up munitions for dynamic abilities. Keep the Mp40 bundled with smoke and it helps okws issue with no smoke without leig.
Nothing but good could come from the change.
AT the very minimum it's a change that opens up the opportunity for good changes that stgs forbids.
With Mp40 being stock you could bundle Volks Stg with the Infrared StG44 Package and adjust it properly. No more 3 minute powerspike into uselessness.

That's a pretty false statement. When you look at it the Bar isn't a crazy good gun. It's basically a better Garande, which means it only ever really shines if you get close.
It's an improvement that double ups the dps compared to the Garand at 35 range. Compared to the Stg44 vs the kar 98 the same improvement of double dps is seen only at 15 range. The only threats to a single bar riflemen are superior enemy cover, Obersoldaten, vetted Panzergrens or Grenadiers with mg42 at max range in green cover, surely not sturmpioneers or volks with stg. |

Anyway, M1 is trash the moment you realize that even dumping 30 or 60 munition it still bounce regularly on panthers and higher armored units.
M1 is the atgun you don't want but there nothing else available unless dumping 150 munition on rangers or waiting for the 145fuel jackson.
