Thread: the cure for cancer (aka emplacement)16 Mar 2016, 11:46 AM The fact that the Axis gets emplacements is irrelevant. The reason why the British emplacements work different (and thus get Brace) compared to Axis is because the faction is built around them. For the Axis, we have the Ostheer as the Defensive-themed faction but they focus more on Support weapons and units (Mortar, MG42, Sniper, Mortar Halftrack, PaK etc). So here we have asymmetrical design: Ostheer-Defensive-Support Weapons and British-Defensive-Emplacements. Same way that we have: Oberkommando West-Offensive-Vehicles and United States Forces-Aggressive-Infantry. Soviets sit in that corner in the room, because they have no definition and nothing going for them. Any fixes to sort balance for a faction needs to take into consideration of these designs. Remove the mortar pit and give brits an actual mortar team, make heavy mortar rounds from alpha unlockable with Hammer/Anvil that basically upgrades it to a 120mm esc unit and gives you some options to deal with pak/command tank turtling late game. Keep the 17pdr and Bofors but remove brace, allow the 17pdr to shoot through buildings. That'd just make them into a copy of Ost and remove asymmetrical design. The problem with doing that; is it seriously cuts into the Defensive-theme of the faction. Unless it has something odd like double-rate of fire in Cover. What would be better, is a mobile howitzer that ties into the Royal Artillery abilities since Royal Artillery is the worst doctrine in game. No replacing units or Emplacements. In: COH2 Balance

Advanced emplacements and mobile assault being used all the time is because they are OP. Other commanders are decent but are completly outshone by aformentioned commanders. It's rifle company all over again. And as for riflecompany, there is no reason to keep the commanders like that. As for the rest of your post, about half of it doesn't apply to our little discussion whereas the rest of the things you listed as being "overnerfed" were overperfoming units. They deserved what they got. Then there is no such thing as a bad commander. In: COH2 Balance

"Caliope/Maxim/emplacement commander are used every single time because the rest of the faction/commanders suck and certainly not for being OP". We have dismissed that claim. Royal Artillery is good? Royal Engineer is good? Tactical Support is good? Honestly, British Forces have only three decent commanders: Advanced Emplacement, Mobile Assault and Vanguard. Anvil is terrible, thats why you only see Hammer nowadays. Bugs and overnerfs killed it. They threw waaaay too many nerfs on Commandos, Churchills (and its variants) and on skills. Sexton and Valentine, two units in the same doctrine are the definition of worst unit in the game. In: COH2 Balance

Why not simply make the OTHER British commanders NOT shit-tier then? If a faction's basic units are a problem (Emplacements), there is a requirement then to promote usage of other units. There lies the rub. The British have a higher percentage of terrible doctrines than Ostheer and lack the strong core unit list of OKW. This is a result of all the nerfs core British units and doctrinal units received. Now only Emplacements, Engineers and Cromwells are worth using. In: COH2 Balance

Italy simply sucked during WWII, losing everywhere all the time. Japan was a naval force with lots of ships and planes - both can't be used/controlled actively in Company of Heroes. Both Allies of Germany were desperatly inferior to everything that the western Allies sent to war. This was the Japanese main tank, the "Type 95 Ha-Go" which had the strength of no more than a Panzer II: CoH is a game about infantry and tank micro. Japan: Sucked at tanks Italy: Sucked at tanks AND at infantry. /Quote I would prefer the Afrika Korps as a third German army. And I'm sure the majority of the community is also in favor of this idea. Actually, in Japan's case, its the Type-47 Chi-Ha (which was soon taken over by the Shinhoto variant, which was about on par with a Sherman) which was their Main Battle Tank. The Ha-Go was just their best light tank. I don't think Japan is likely nor that they were amazing, but they did field tanks. They had quite a variety. I think a multiplayer-only, Late War japan would work. Mostly infantry and support teams, with cheap Ha-Go, Chi-Ha Shinhoto and one of their Tank Destroyers. Also, Men of War 2: Assault Squad is able to make do with a Japan faction and does it quite well. I believe it could even handle Italy too, so I don't see why CoH2 couldn't. I don't understand this 'style' that people allude to, with CoH2. I mean, its not the only WW2 game on market nor the best. Probably not factions I'd give campains though. Africa Corps would better fit a Commander or two, theres not really anything unique to it. In: COH2 Gameplay
