As a person that's been playing CoH since 2006 I enjoy the game purely out of a mechanical gameplay aspect of the factions and units being similar to the original game, while also adding in some new features like auto-vaulting, towing, tank riding and so forth.
Balance-wise, campaign-design wise, graphics and audio among others however are not to my liking, but still, you asked, I tried to answer my reasoning and opinion although lately I've been a bit de-motivated to play the game seeing as where they're going with it's monetization and so forth instead of going into the direction of actually fixing and improving the game first.
Hard to say. During first alpha, they've actually had those commanders in the game files. So while video is clearly a mod (guy just sorted out the abilities basically by name), concept of those commanders is legit.
Huh, interesting. Well fair enough then I guess.
But wouldn't the Mormon Harrington overlap with the Humber as it fulfills the same role then basically? I'm guessing it's a placeholder unit like many others.
It's fake, somebody seems like they just wanted a little bit of attention so he went into the files or saw the units from mods and cooked up these "up-coming" battlegroups, besides the Canadian Vanguard one which is actually real, but it will have the Canadian Heavy "Shocktroop" infantry instead, along with the Croc.
Some pointers -
No new US or DAK Battlegroups, doesn't make sense only for the British and Wehrmacht getting some.
Base howitzer doesn't make sense, it would be a 25 pounder which is already working in the game.
Mormon Herrington would most likely have a place-holder picture that's already in the game like with the rest of the units, doesn't make sense for them to photoshop one specifically for these concepts.
I already mentioned the Canadian Vanguard although a Sexton would make more sense here since it was an actual Canadian vehicle anyway.
Coastal reserves would probably have the Osttruppen portrait as a placeholder, doesn't make sense for it to be a ship.
Same with the L6 40, it already has an in-game icon.
The Gebirsjägers are real however, but again they would most likely use already present placeholder portraits instead of photoshopping newo nes, there seem to be upgrades and abilities for them in the files but they were either scrapped or for the future, same with the US Rangers which even have entities but their models are pink boxes currently.
Also the Kettenkrad has a "light" tow, meaning they'd probably need to either change that or change the "weight" of the LeIG and whatever AT gun they intend on making it tow which is most certainly not going to be the Pak 40 as it realistically was beyond the capabilities of a Ketten unless it's something like the LG 40 or they introduce the Pak 36 or Rakettenwerfer again.
221 Scout Car gunner and M18 Hellcat crew are scaled incorrectly
It's not the crew, it's the vehicle models. The M18 Hellcat was almost the size of a car in reality which besides the engine, suspension and lack of armor to make it light enough helped it be the fastest armored fighting vehicle in the European Theater of Operations (ETO) -
A little bit disappointed that after a month from the release of the game and the first major patch introduces the store, which was expected, but doesn't fix or improve any of the major issues that were reported and complained about since perhaps even some of the testing phases of the game.
It's like there is a strict pipeline set in place for updates that is so rigid and inflexible which will hurt the game in the long run in my opinion.
Your wish is my command! Yeah so re the Recover Halftrack, I don't really like it because basically everything in Dak repairs or can repair itself. However, the economics of the unit make no sense whatsoever. As far as I can tell, the repair rate is the same as a standard pioneer, yet the cost difference is substantial and you need more pop cap, so as a late game repair vehicle it makes no economic sense. As a recovery vehicle, sure, does the job, but its not often that you actually have fields of wrecks to recover or salvage, once in a rare game. This is exactly the problem the Bergetiger had and that was barely used, good players just didn't leave wrecks.
And yeah, the design is so much more fun to play! I can't really go back now. I've raised Support cases with Relic and posted on their website, but any extra publicity I can get would be great. If anyone has connections or wants to use the publicity of their YouTube channel to promote it, I would be greatly appreciative. I'm a relative outsider to the scene!
In terms of recent changes, I managed to get the deployment system to deploy an individual MG34 rather than with the halftrack. I also had a play with Panzergrenadiers and back balanced them. I usually don't make balance changes but this one was just too glaring. I have some other minor things I want to change which I will report back on sooner or later.
The Recovery halftrack has only the regular repair speed ability, really? I thought it had an advanced one, or at least that's what I assumed because of it's cost as you said and I didn't bother to even check in the files.
As far as YouTube goes, I got a channel and thought I'd make a small video about it but now that you mention it it might be better if it was a short interview sort of thing where you can explain why and what it is exactly with the changes because you would probably do it better than I ever can. I'll keep in touch if you're interested.
Personally I always advocated that units should become attractive by utility and not DPS.
Agreed.
And excellent work on the mod to the OP, now that I read your reasons about the recovery halftrack here it makes more sense why you removed it for the DAK, which puzzled me for the team games. However sadly I believe both it and the Nashorn are most likely reserved for future doctrines so they most likely won't be consider as default units.
So after I tried out the mod I need to say that your concept is really superior in terms of tech-ing up compared to the vanilla one that's currently implemented.
I love the ability to somewhat customize the call-ins without having to pay full price up front and replacing all of them.
However I find the recovery halftrack being missing a bit jarring as I think it's a key element in team games, also the Tiger lacking the smoke dispensers of the lighter Panzers still is bit of a miss in terms of balance in my opinion as well.
Otherwise great job and keep up the good work, I hope Relic picks this up.
