The Calliope seems to be the most benign artillery in the game with respect to cover. Calliope doesn't ignore garrison cover (only Panzwerwerfer ignores garrison cover). The damage modifier is 25% What's even more surprising is that Calliope doesn't ignore heavy cover either (all other artillery pieces ignore heavy cover). The damage modifier is 50% (just like ordinary grenades) Calliope's damage multiplier is 15% (Katyusha: 10%, Panzerwerfer: 30%). The Calliope is imba for other things; the cover modifiers doesn't seem to be that reason. Does anybody know how many rockets the Calliope fires? Thread: Comet/Churchill grenades on-the-move inconsistency28 Dec 2015, 14:32 PM Both UKF top-tier tanks (the Churchill and the Comet) have an active "throw crew grenade" ability that the player can activate. This post describes 3 bugs that affect this ability, and alludes to a (potential) balance oversight. Although I will only refer to the Churchill throughout this post, what I say also applies to the Comet. 1) Crew grenades can be fired on the move if and only if the Churchill was on the move Let's see what happens when the Churchill is stationary when the ability is activated - Take a stationary Churchill - Fire the grenade ability - While the grenade is being thrown, try to move the Churchill around - the Churchill will not react to any commands given Now, let's see what happens when the Churchill is already on the move - Issue a move order for a reasonably-far away location - While the Churchill is on the move, throw a grenade - The Churchill will continue to its destination while the grenade is being thrown - Moreover, you will be able to change the Churchill's destination WHILE the grenade is being thrown I don't know which one of the two is the intended behaviour. 2) It is not possible to cancel a throw grenade command with Stop All other (infantry-launched) grenades can be cancelled before they are thrown. In the case of the Churchill this is not possible. This becomes a major issue when the Churchill will 'freeze' for 3 seconds to throw a grenade, as described in the previous bug. 3) Sometimes, the Churchill will not launch the grenade when on the move, and there are enemies nearby I don't know what causes it. The workaround to this issue is to issue a "Stop" command before launching the grenade. However, due to both aforementioned bugs, launching a grenade from a Churchill is often suicidal. This is an issue that affects ALL vehicle-based abilities that need to be targeted. This means that the following units are also affected: - AEC target tread - Cromwell smoke shell - Comet smoke shell/phosphorus shell - Centaur fire ability - Puma aimed shot 4) (Balance oversight) Damage inconsistences in Churchill grenades, Comet grenades and other grenade types Churchill grenades seem a bit too strong, whereas Comet grenades seem a bit too weak. Churchill: - This has to do with the Area distance value; both the Far and the Near value are equal to 4. Thus, there is no cut-off (where the explosion would deal non-lethal damage). Most infantry grenades have a value of 3 Far and 1 near. Comet: - The area distance values are also slightly higher than other grenades - Unlike the Churchill, there exists a cut-off distance - The problem is that the damage modifier for the far-distance is 0.05. This is significantly lower than the multiplier for other grenade types (Shock troops: 0.15, Riflemen: 0.25) In: COH2 Bugs
Thread: Panzerwerfer?28 Dec 2015, 13:50 PM necro thread TL;DR: A single Panzerwerfer rocket will deal more damage than one normal grenade. Since the Panzerwerfer launches multiple such super-grenades, the performance of this unit is COMPLETELY off the charts. Just to give you a measure of how completely off the charts the damage of Panzerwerfer is, let's compare PzWerfer to (1) grenades and (2) the Walking Stuka barrage. Comparison to grenades - Most grenade types (Rifleman, Grenadier etc) have a damage multiplier of 0.25 (damage - A single Panzerwerfer rocket has a damage multiplier of 0.3 - The radius of the rockets AoE is much greater than that of the grenades (F/N of 4.5/1.5 vs 3/1) - Let's not forget that Panzerwerfer rockets also completely ignore cover and garrison bonuses. Therefore, a single Panzerwerfer salvo will launch a dozen super-grenades at the target position. However, the Panzerwerfer deals sufficient damage to kill models even with a lower damage - In the far-radius, the Walking stuka deals 10 (= 200 * 0.05) damage, whereas the Panzerwerfer deals 24 (80 * 0.3) damage. Thread: Panzerwerfer?26 Dec 2015, 11:06 AM Guys, just compare the stats between the Katyusha and the Panzerwerfer. - PW AoE: (80 * 0.3) -> 3x more than Katyusha (80 * 0.1) - PW does full damage vs garrisons -> Katyusha does 25% damage vs garrisons (I am not even taking the firing pattern or the suppression into account here) Since both units cost exactly the same, and both require max tech, shouldn't Panzerwerfer's performance be somewhat comparable to the Katyusha? Not always; it depends on which model dies. Say, if you have a 4-man IS that carries dual Brens, and it's the Bren-carrying dudes that die, the Brens will not transfer to the scope-carrying dudes. Conversely, if it's the scope carrying dudes die, the Bren-carrying dudes will still keep using Brens. This is the MOST annoying part of the bug (bug manifestation #2), as an upgraded IS's performance becomes completely unpredictable after a few deaths. Even if you think it's OK for the IS to drop weapons (I can live with that), there is NO excuse why the IS should NOT be using the upgraded weapons. In: COH2 Bugs
Thread: British Base Howi's26 Dec 2015, 02:18 AM I find that the primary problem of this ability is the range-dependent scatter. Try this for yourself: - Pick the largest possible map (e.g., Steppes), and activate the ability right outside your base; each of the incoming shells will arrive with pinpoint accuracy - Now, try activating it on the furthest edge of the map; the shells are probably not going to land on the same postal code. The ability is good enough for destroying garrisons (something the Brits really need, since they can't clear garrisons at all). The problem is that scatter doesn't allow you to use this ability to a good effect at all. PS: I have no idea how good the AoE of this ability is at all, since this has never hit anything for me. Does it auto drop the pickup? I am not sure exactly. However I do know the following: Suppose that you have a Rear Echelon with a bazooka and the minesweeper upgrade. Now, suppose that the RE squad has dropped down to two models. One model carries the bazooka, the other model carries the minesweeper. Regardless of which dies, the other model will ALWAYS have the minesweeper. This is because the minesweeper seems to have a higher priority. It has happened to me that, sometimes, that RE squad will also drop the bazooka when the squad drops down to one model. My hypothesis is that the only way the bazooka will (have a chance to) drop is if it is the bazooka-carrying model that dies. I've never really looked hard enough to test this out, though. Nevertheless, matchup-specific stats would be less bad than faction-specific stats. At least matchup-specific stats will not be polluted/affected by the distribution of players playing the opposite faction. Surely Relic has access to/has been monitoring matchup-specific data? Is there any additional info you can think of to help me reproduce the issue? Or can your provide a video of the issue occurring? An idea: Could it be that when the bug occurs: - The vehicle first gets abandoned - Then, the command ability becomes neutralized - However, since the vehicle is no longer in control of the affected player, this doesn't refresh the ability of the player to designate a new command vehicle? This bug definitely exists, and occurred to me every time a Command Vehicle Universal Carrier gets abandoned (4 out of 4) - Take an Universal Carrier (no upgrades) - Upgrade Carrier with command vehicle - Start shooting at it, and pray to the RNG gods that it gets abandoned - UKF player is unable to designate a new command vehicle. Moreover: - Even when I managed to recrew the abandoned Universal Carrier, the vehicle had lost its command ability (both aura and free-recon ability). @Spacebus: Perhaps the tool you are using to trigger the 'Abandoned' critical also triggers other things that prevent the bug from occurring (a true Heisenbug!) Thread: Vet3 Tommy squads dropping weapons (bug & fixes)25 Dec 2015, 16:38 PM I gave it a bit of extra thought, and it seems there already exist some manner of weapon priority in the game: minesweepers. If a minesweeper carrying member dies, the minesweeper always carries over to another squad member (obviously, even an 1-member squad should be able to perform sweeping). I've updated my initial proposal to reflect that fact. (PS: I plead you all kindly, NOT to derail the thread with balance-related arguments. A bug is a bug, and bugs deserve to be fixed).
