Interesting discussion going on here, have been following this thread for a good while now! I'd like to throw in my two cents on two points:
1. Cut-offs are still there. They are NOT taken out of the game. SNF had some 2v2 games with very effective cut-off strats, where one team had literally zero strat points for one - two minutes. While this might not take away all the MP, it does limit your Muni/fuel income severely, limiting teching and the use of special abilities that improve your general fighting strength. I agree that cut-offs are not as brutal as they were in vCoH, but saying that they are "taken out of the game" is polemic and plain wrong.
2. Come-backs are over-rated in this conversation. I've had plenty of games where I had the whole map capped after 10 - 15 minutes and had the dude pinned in his base, and I knew I had won the game. Some tried to fight on, but two or three T34s would always be the end of it. You are making it sound as if your opponent is getting a stronger army by losing, which is simply not the case.
Both the cases you r giving are more due to the side balance rather than the importance of either cut offs or comebacks .
1 In SNF the games were the ones with the mixed teams ,which were literally some of the most onesided games ive seen but that is due to the other side not knowing really how to conter the synergies of the mixed team since they had less experience on that and on the game design which really gives mixed teams both versatility and strenght in early mid and late game .
2 On come backs if you have the map within 10 mins it is possibly due to you being vastly superiorr than your opponent or your doctrine being vastly superior ( IS2 doctrine come to mind )
So what your cases do say is that if you have everything on your side you ll win , well thats not so big a deal Kappa |
TBH going for rifle antitank for the ppsh is a very risky choice in 1v1, cause if your opponent makes it to the late game , your fucked , right now the game just laughs at you if you dont go for IS 2/ ISU or tigers , ihave literally had no defeats with IS2 doctrine so far , and with the germans when i tried to play with the festung support armor , i got destroyed after some gruelling 1hr matches when my opponent somehow made a comeback with the IS2 , that was it the fucking thing does not die even to railgun arty and it takes normal tanks ages to destroy it firing from the side even whe it has a sliver of health and all kinds of crits , same thing with guards motors coordination , doesnt matter if you trap and ram the tiger , it takes so much time to destroy it that your opponent will come to rescue it , ffs . |
pfff they havnt given the commander teching and upgrading trees enough thought , anyway some buffing of rifles in general , nerfinng of smgs , and a fix of the molotov to work like the pe incendiary nade , could ammend this , alternatively , they could make ppsh's upgredable from hq but only allow you to upgrade at a squad after it obtains vet 1 in this way the hug the dirt doctrine would still give you a teching advantage if you elect to go for it along with HTD .
Alternatively they could fix the mp/pop costs for each unit , i mean penal battalion has the same pop and cost as the pgrens which is ridiculous and maxim gun has the same as the osheer mg for having more crewmen and whats the outcome ? it gets killed by gren blobs the thing it supposed to counter MVGame . Imo we d see a lot more viable t1/t2 strats if combat engies had 4 pop , cons 5 , maxim mg 4 , soviet mortar 5 , and penal battalion was costed 300 or 360 but with the flamer already upgraded and had 6 pop . |
There we go again with the blatant fanboyism... This is wishful thinking at its finest and has to stop. First off, the article was written before Sega purchased Relic, so it's completely invalid. You're being blinded by, what I hope is, love for the game and therefore have extremely high expectations as well as lack of objectivity.
No, chances are that Sega will not support the COH competitive community, cause they don't give a fuck about us, to put it bluntly. Sega's a multinational corporation with a long history and is not gonna test the waters like this just cause we WANT THEM TO. Are you THAT naive to think Sega will decide to all of a sudden jump into e-sports with COH when it's had something like Total War for years?
As for the "forum warriors" comment... Pretty funny coming from someone on this forum with 350 posts... I could reply pretty harshly to that, but I reserve trolling for twitch.tv and ingame. I suggest you do that too, so we can all have a nice intelligent discussion here.
Being unrealistic with our expectations of the game doesn't help it in any way, shape or form. It just makes the developers think they're doing everything right, which they clearly are not.
total war games are a sinlge player game a lot more than coh , coh2 are , just look at how many shoutcasts there are for tw games and how many for coh + dow2 . tbh starcraft 2 will start declining soon and all those rts fans will look for sth new , hence the reason sega elected to buy relic and ea elected to build generals 2 specifically at that time |
tbh there are only so many ways a t2 rush can go wrong
1 atm conscripts with HTD and ppsh will overpower you through costeffective reinforcement and numbers , you ll have to dispatch them with bundlenades which will delay your halftrack
2 t1 with m3 + guards and an at nade will kill the flametruck
3 field gun + mine / at nade will kill as well .
4 t70 with bachtech to t1 for shocktroopers could work as well |
Yeah I know you can go to support weapons, my point is whether it's viable at all to play with conscripts as your only infantry. Their damage dealing potential seems very low without PPsh, so my impression so far is that guards or shock troops are an absolute must unless you have the doctrine which makes your conscripts better.
i have been trying to develop a strat with guards coordination motor ( t34/85 doctrine ) with 4 cons , 1or2 mgs 1 mortar 1 field gun and then t3 t34s and t1 for guards to gradually replace conscipts , i ve had moderate success which is not bad on its own but then again when i go for the is2 doctrine i usually stomp my opponents in about 20 mins , that is though because t34/85 120mm mortar and guards are atm either UP or overpriced and soviet mgs take up too much pop for their worth , with the correct balance tweaks it can be a worthwile strat . Atm its really good only against a very heavy t1 play ( like the one inverse has shown in his stratalks ) |
hahaha wow wtf is this really true? I havn't really played Osteer as much, but how does it work exactly? Does it literally switch targets to unsuppressed infantry?
yes and there is an other fundamental difference , it suppresses by looking , it doesnt even have to fire MVGame
I am hopefully wrong on this, but it also seems that Soviet teching is very linear due to the special rifle command being required - conscripts just seem unable to do damage to grens/pgrens after those get some vet or upgrades, requiring other units, which means special rifle command. Unless maybe one can make it with PPsh conscripts, but I am not sure about that.
you can tech up with wsc or whatever its called as well , yeah well conscrips are a molotov/grenade platform without ppsh and hug the dirt , imo rifles in general do very little damage and soviet mg gets decrwed by grenadier blobs and the population costs for the units is pretty bad right now but hopefully those are things which will be fixed in the future UNLIKE the UI .
PS to the guy who said that the resource placement was there to let you compare the cost values with the banked resources , yeah , i ve been playing the game for a week and i already dont need that feature and everyone i have discussed with also knows the values by now , who was your target audience goldfishes ? I've been trying to go T1 into T3 but the ostheer T3 just destroys it to be honest as you dont have any hard AT. And with the current upkeep system it makes it so hard to back tech in the game to pick up T2 for an AT gun. For me at least it reduces the possible builds to T1-T4 or T2-T3? Anyone having any success going anything else?
to defeat ostheer t3 you can use 1 t34 with ram with help from atnades and then deal more damage with an other t34 , but tbh you r just asking for an flame halftrack
Going for the IS-2 doctrine is really strong in 1v1 at the moment, since you can go T3 for the T-34's anti-infantry capabilities then transition into an IS-2 in the lategame to penetrate heavier armor.
and not only that kv8 is awsome , coupled with a field gun and a t34 it is a beastly combination , and since he goes t1 shocktroopers will help him gain an upperhand early on . |
I would like to share this great 18 parts documentary called "Soviet Storm - WW2 in the East" That I have found , its very well done good mix of archive footage, computer and acting dramatisation.
So I hope many or some of you find this interesting and educational

i ve seen it , its very good |
im trying to understand what would be OP about the pak43 taking 5 shots to destroy a t34...? that sounds pretty trashy to be honest.. giving it costs 360man power yea i understand the critical shots but still.. i don't know if your being sarcastic or something i agree with the mg42 turning way to fast with such a huge fire arc not to mention its supression actually has quite a big aoe.. u can hardly do emergency splits in coh2 but id like you to explain how it is OP that it takes 5 shots for a pak to kill a t34..
hmm maybe i mixed the numbers i am talking about the t2 pak not the doctrinal . Anyway about the pak40 ( hope i get it right this time ) cause its firing really rapidly , and criticals happen way too often , so far i ve found that whenever a pak gets you in its sight by a mistake or not and given that tanks are really clumsy when they move it almost equals a dead tank , basically by the time you would have theoretically gone aout of range or line of sight , you have taken 2 hits and as i said before crits are really nasty |
