The whole Brit blob / slowness thing drives me fucking nuts and is borne of lazy American stereotyping of Montgomery's decision to take his time over Caen.
Which was, lest it be forgotten, urban warfare against an elite SS panzer division.
After that the British army moved across the Low Countries with the speed of a thousand gazelles. As it did in North Africa. |
Heavy artillery was a key plank of Montgomery's strategy in Africa. Any British faction without it would look a bit silly.
In fact, it's the normal Axis / Allies schtick - the Allies had manpower superiority but mediocre armour, the Germans the opposite. The Germans were also saddled with the truly sub-par Italians. This is usually the cue for a spirited defence of the Italian army, but their performance in Africa was risible, mainly due to poor tech and indifferent generalship.
A la the Ardennes offensive, the Germans were stymied by a lack of fuel. The Allies weren't.
Also, both sides relied heavily on air power in the desert.
I like the faction design a lot, but it needs work. Not for historical accuracy so much, but to reflect asymmetrical play. |
Agreed, but rifle / rifle / rifle with maybe a daring second REMF is hardly the stuff of flamboyant play.
USF could do with another base unit. Maybe a small three man scout team or something, or a fragile two-man .30 cal MG team. |
british forces should absolutely include the SAS, at least as a doctrinal unit!
|
Can't get excited by North Africa as described but great ideas re. faction design (but yes, Grant tank pls).
OTOH Torch landings and Italy? Yes.
It's easier to balance 1943-44 units in Italy with the rest of the game. |
It's under an NDA no doubt. |
I categorically said the first two were unfair. They were a riposte to the crazy guy in the previous rambling post.
Sorry if that caused some confusion.
And if accusing someone of excessive optimism is an insult... *shrugs* |
Why? Because this isn't news. The entire article contains utterly nothing of substance yet it's being presented as news. It isn't. Two community members go to Relic's office and tell us Stuff is Happening.
So?
I like Napalm and Dusty. I have nothing against them. But as a forum member I see no benefit in blowing smoke up arses for no reason.
When there's something to report you should report it. When there isn't, you shouldn't. Simple.
By doing so you simply look... *panglossian*
Edit - Please show me where the insult is. The criticism is mild, or does the moderation policy now extend to anything that doesn't constitute obsequious agreement? |
noun

an accomplice of a confidence trickster or swindler who poses as a genuine customer to entice or encourage others.
"I used to be a shill in a Reno gambling club"
You aren't a shill by any fair definition of the word.
Let's try something else...
sycophant
ˈsɪkəfant/
noun
noun: sycophant; plural noun: sycophants
a person who acts obsequiously towards someone important in order to gain advantage.
I don't think this is particularly fair either.

Definition of PANGLOSSIAN

I think this one is on the money. Y'all take a panglossian view of Relic because they let you in their office. |
Deja vu. Why the never-ending "something's gonna happen just not yet" stories? |
