This is exactly what we need in these types of discussions.
The only thing missing is the rate of fire. Here the Sherman wins with 6.175 seconds vs Pershings 7.0 seconds.
So performance wise you trade a 13% vs ~25% higher scatter area and better AoE.
Thanks for doing this. I think the reason why I had the impression that it's worse is because I'd been using it in 4v4's and at longer ranges. At vet 3 it seems to hit part of a squad with each shot so one of its vet bonuses must be accuracy. |
You're kidding, right?
The Pershing outperforms the HE Sherman against infantry, the best anti-infantry medium in the game.
That's anything but piss poor.
It's not gamebreakingly powerful any more, but it's still really, really good.
Interesting. Do you have scatter values? I've tried the Pershing a few times and at vet 0 it seems like it has much worse scatter than a HE Sherman. It seemed kind of underwhelming at vet 0 but decent at Vet 2 or better. |
5 popcap seems kinda rough for a now extremely situational niche unit that cannot fight nor capture territory (like medics or an USF ambulance who have popcap). It's a complete non-combatant like Opel Blitz which has 0 popcap
I voted no but think that 5 is way too much. If you'd included an option to lower it to 2 then I would've voted for it. Even at that, it still seems like it needs something more. |
Some of it is pretty bad. Recent game on Across the Rhine had a teammate blip the house next to the fuel (the big one across the road from the vp) and tell me under no circumstances should I lose it. After pushing the red player off of the fuel I noticed a huge flank from orange so I got out after a brief delay to try and hold him up so my teammates could adjust (hopeful thinking). I got a ton of gardening and pudding for a match we wound up winning fairly easily. Some rank 3000 guy.
I consider myself fairly average (I'm getting old) and I'm constantly telling my toddler kid to do shit but it just baffles the fuck out of me that people are so focused on a single minded idea of telling people what to do instead of working with the situation. Granted there are days where I don't have as much grit and time to save a sinking ship of a match against competent opponents but I never do that sort of shit to players.
Ouch, I've lost to teams with you on it a couple times recently. I'd had some dreams of mediocrity but you just busted them.
Today's field general was someone that wanted me to send a beat up Pershing into an attack on a vp defended by a schwerer, 1 or 2 mg34's, panther, raketen, and a bunch of infantry. They YOLO'd their infantry into that with no smoke, nothing besides a big A-move. They ended up losing a bunch of models but not getting close to the VP. I took it a few minutes later without losing many models.
Yesterday's field general was someone who would ping every time he didn't like the positon of something. At one point, he wanted me to move a raketen around a building and take on a KV8 at zero range. While he is doing this, his pak40 is moving through an infantry blow from the other team with vehicle priority set on. |
I also placed the CAS directly behind his retreat path and flanked/rear approached it with spotting infantry squads.
Which you could do with any other offmap, with the possible exception of the P47. I played against someone who dove an Ele and lost it to artillery cover. The Ele changed directions twice, so any balance problem was probably sitting on a chair at the time. |
For UKF, I'd make the AEC and bofors mo long exclusive and fix the bofors rotation speed so it could shoot down planes. Give it a pretty big radius to do this. Nerg the snot out of it's AI and cut cost.
Ukf lacks affordable AA, so when skillplanes are called in, it feels like it has no real solution. Lendlease fixes this like so many things...
The bofors AI was already nerfed pretty hard. They had to partially revert some of the nerfs because it couldn't even defend itself against infantry when weaker than it currently is. I don't remember which patch the change was, but pretty sure they tested it at a couple of levels. |
You just notice it less because you only meet 1 player at a time.
It is worse because there seems to be a lot of self-proclaimed Field Generals in team games. I've been getting at least one per day. Yesterday's was someone with a CELO rating of a little over 6100. He ordered everyone to go center and bottom on Hill 400 (because every 6000+ genius knows that you win by giving the other side half of the map). When I didn't follow his orders, he started pinging, using both racial epithets and anti-gay slurs.
That game was one of the few that did work out okay, as he finally left. The computer was a significant upgrade so we won after he left. I'm pretty old and hadn't seen some of those slurs used since at least the 1970's, maybe even the 60's. My guess is that he was probably shouting them at the screen also so the attendants in his nursing home kicked him off the computer.
Most of the time, I just leave, even if it is going to punish my random ranking severely.
I do wish there was a way to mute teammate's pings and text. Also, I somewhat agree with Koniux that most of the better players aren't toxic. I don't know augustine so wasn't agreeing with that part. |
it doesnt matter if its a call in or a built unit, anything from a 222 up pretty well will punish you for crewing a weapon with zero nearby support. thats the role of these units. if you have AT and a snare (that one is most important) the unit will be drastically less effective and exploiting you.
without a replay i cant give more direct advice but if you have nothing to stop a LV from cruising up to your team weapons and plinking away at them they will cruise up to your team weapons and plink away at them. its not a design issue, its not a balance issue, its called how the game works.
The Greyhound is especially good at this with canister shot. Normally I'm not a fan of it because of the time delay but it works great against someone trying to recrew weapons.
If they made it buildable, it would arrive sooner. That seems like more of a buff than the nerf that OP is wanting. I tried a couple in 4v4 games today. Neither of them paid for themselves. |
Can you make it not collide with some types of terrain? I saw a teammate's Sturmtiger hit a telephone pole right in front of the Sturmtiger. They had a squad at the telephone pole and lost most or all of their squad.
I wouldn't want magic shells that phase through buildings, forest, etc, but telephone poles, fences, and similar things don't seem like they should affect it.

... I would think about something like adding a 150mp/15fu medics upgrade to the HQ (but keeping the medic bunker so players can choose what to invest) ....
Please do this. Not having to choose between sending 3/4 health squads into battle versus purchasing upgrades would be nice. I usually get two grens in 4v4's (must be only 1/2 as good (or less) as Aerafield as it feels like I need two) and they're really mediocre when not in cover and upgraded.
The only concern I'd have about that when playing allies is the time to get a flamer. In 4v4's, I've been encountering teams where one player goes mg42, mg42, 2nd pio, Pgren, 251, upgrades flamer and more Pgrens. The other gets either Volks or Pfusiliers and then 2x or sometimes 3x leigs. My AT gun is sometimes not even finished before the flamer is upgraded. Having the flamer earlier would cause even more problems.
Would a T4 bolster, similar to what cons get, be too much of a buff? In long 4v4's it would be nice to have the option to get a 5 man gren squad due to the amount of arty. Bringing in a vet 0 gren squad at 40 minutes isn't a great option. Making it exclusive with weapon upgrades should prevent too much power creep. |
