Hats true. Although, again, wouldn't there be too much overlap with obers?
Yes but imo its good for gameplay. Obers are only good when you have a blob to soak damage for them and thats not really tactical or fitting for the game. IDK what can be done about Obers.
Yeah. I feel like they trade a little more evenly at close range than volks in coh1 do though.
It's a cool idea, but I feel like there'd be no way to balance that in the lategame without scrapping the feel of the unit (as described by you) at that point. I mean, have fun trying to cap a contested vp in even 1v1 after 20 minutes.
then it would just be a weakness of the faction. soviets and usf are great at contesting VPs, OKW doesnt have to be.
Wouldn't they literally be obers then? I think volks should be shitty meat shields or like they were in coh1: ok at long range but decidedly worse at close and mid range.
Not really. There isn't really any "glass cannon" infantry besides Commandos.
IMO 30 mp per model, 30 muni stick grenade not tied to teching, MG34 upgrade in addition to MP44s. You should should have a small amount of Volks squads that are armed to the teeth and have to work with each other to survive and get vet.
Fausts for Assault Grenadiers (with T1, like osttruppen)
TLDR
Assgrens are counterable by infantry play and are balanced in that regard with their cost and timing
Additional weakness in lack of faust exposes assgren play to cheese in the early game and heavily disincentivizes them in the lategame (amongst other things)
Giving them fausts would not significantly affect matchups to the point where assgren spam / cheese play becomes a problem [may need observation vs brits] and would make for more variety ingame
Single Shreck for Panzergrens
GCS and 1v1 gameplay clearly shows the propensity for wehrmacht T1 units over pgrens in the anti-inf role. This is not necessarily due to T1 being overboard in strength, but rather due to the lack of niche for panzergrens in the wehr anti-inf roster.
Grenadiers are almost always preferable [even when both T1 and T2 are present], with fausts, much, much lower initial cost, weapon upgrades (particularly G43) that allow the unit to punch above its reinforce cost]
Snipers bleed no manpower and due to how important / impactful this unit is in the USF/UKF matchup and against soviet sniper, panzergrens really can't compete
Single schreck would give the unit a niche in T2 as a 'safe' multirole purchase.
Pgren blob / spam would neither be efficient nor uncounterable, given their high upfront cost, not-overly strong anti-inf performance, nerfed bundle nade and weakness of single shreck in coh2 due to vehicle mechanics with pushing and general high lethality[see current sturmpios for reference]. As such, Wehrmacht T1 + pak or stug would still be the more cost-efficient tier for specialized units, but panzergrens would offer a flexible alternative in a faction of specialists
Other suggestions (without reasoning, maybe later) 0CP Mortar Halftrack Riegel mines able to be laid by pioneers and 222s
Ass grens with Faust would be an upgrade over grens and a down grade over LMG grens. IMO they just need better anti-infantry scaling:like a 60 munitions armor upgrade or something.
PzGrens should have the option to upgrade to double LMG34 (nonelite version) at 120 munitions. Removing double Shrek is a nerf to Ost.
WFA: biggest issue is one dimensional design even though units are lots of fun. Just spitballing ideas for USF that would lead to more freedom and less 3 rifle M20 armor company:
-give RE a M1919 Upgrade for 45 muni that grants them a free volley fire ability that's actually effective
-M3 halftrack in T0 behind 35 fuel Upgrade
-increase M20 cost to 30 fuel and decrease muni cost of mines and armor
-Wolverine in captain tier, extremely buffed AT gun in major tier, doctrinal Jackson
Disagree with USF teching changes. Their flavor is tiers being expensive but totally self reliant. If anything the Captain tier needs to swap the .50 cal and AT gun, while giving the .50 cal a cost buff due to its later timing.
So you pick between M20, AT gun, M15 (which should be 40 fuel alongside OKW flaktrack) or HMG, Stuart, Pack Howie. This way tiers are more independent and synergy is increased. (.50 pins Infantry for howie, Stuart protects against vehicles. AT gun protects M20 and M15 while they do what they do.)
OKW changes are decent but the only changes really needed are core infantry nerfs and addition of more combined arms. I'd be for a significant Volk nerf to 280 MP if the MG34 was available from the start. Then you work on giving the ISG smoke, swapping Obers and walking Stuka, making non BHQ tech more viable, and so on.
