Blobbing I don't really care about but I do wish that accuracy mechanics reflected what you saw on the screen in a more straight forward way.
In other words, I'd like it better if a big group of dudes was easier to shoot than a small group of dudes even in battles without grenades or mortars. The current situation is almost like if the King Tiger had the same target size as a Kubel (but the game were somehow balanced so that it worked that way).
Changing it would mess up current balance though so I suppose this is more of an idea for CoH3.

Something I've been wondering about.
In real life, it's easier to hit a blob of people than it is to hit a single person standing alone. I mean, at least I think - someone with shooting experience correct me if I'm wrong here.
From what I understand about how accuracy works in CoH2, hitting 1 squad standing by itself in a field is just as difficult as hitting 3 squads bunched together. This is because the chance to hit only takes into account the accuracy of the shooting unit, cover, and the received accuracy of the squad being shot at.
This means that weapons with area effect have an easier time hitting massed infantry, but a rifle squad has just as hard a time hitting 5 volks models as it does hitting 30 volks models all lined up together.
I don't think that blobbing is somehow overpowered, and I'm not asking for mechanics changes to take it out of the game.
But can anyone with more knowledge of mechanics confirm that it works this way, and if it does, would anyone agree with me that this system is rather counter intuitive and can look somewhat strange?
I tried looking this up but couldn't fine anything. Apologies if this is explained somewhere. |
Not into it at all. I actually love single player mission because they offer something other than "arena" style matches with mirrored objectives - I think it's cool having a battle with one side attacking and the other defending, one side retreating and the other pursuing, etc. Trouble is, it's boring playing with only computers. Now, if you can play it with a friend, different story. Theater of War with coop missions was one of the best ideas Relic with CoH2 and one of the reason I bought the game.
Since AA has no coop features I probably won't get it.

^I love that one
Soviet Combined Arms Doctrine - allows the soviets to play with many of their stock units without building any tiers ever.
0 CP - Sniper squad
1 CP - AT gun
3 CP - Maxim
7 CP - T34/76 call-in
8 CP - SU-85 call-in.

The fuck guys, I am also very critical, but this is just plain crazy.
They just showed a major improvement to both automatch and competition.
Be happy, write down your doubts but dont act like total dicks.
This is a good thing, lets remember that.
Yeah, observer mode is a good thing. "WHY DID YOU NOT ALSO DO OTHER THINGS WE WANTED" is not an appropriate response. We ought to complain about other problems elsewhere, and focus on enjoying observer mode in this thread. |
How about, communicating with us on the forum. Giving even the vaguest of time-tables for fixes to bugs that have existed since Beta, their community rep having an iota of game knowledge, focusing on fundamental game issues instead of fluffy observer mode etc..
I'd like that as much as you would but I think we both know that Relic doesn't know when those bugs will get fixed anymore than we do. |
When I get to vehicles I will explicitly state that fuel costs for OKW will be upped to account for the fact that they don't have a penalty, so that should not be a consideration
I disagree. There's way more in OKW's design to make up for the penalty than having good vehicles. OKW's inexpensive, mainline infantry having potent AT weaponry are also a factor that makes up for their resource penalty because there's not as much pressure on them to get a tank out.
Same with Obers. Obers in any faction that has a medium tank and normal fuel income would be bat shit OP.

This is exactly what I am talking about. I addressed multiple issues in my post and the community rep focuses on the arbitrary shout out at the end and doesn't acknowledge any of the real content. It's like when the deadbeat dad shows up once a year with a new puppy or something and says "look a puppy, I know I don't ever spend any time with you or provide a good male role-model but... gifts!" That is when their kid kills the puppy.
What response are you looking for? "I'm sorry this game has lots of bugs and balance issues. We'll try to be less gib and patronizing in the future"? |
In my experience, fanboys in "opposite" camps tend resemble each other far more than they resemble less fanatical members of their own "side."
CoH2 I think fosters a better environment for axis fanboys because regardless of overall balance, the German factions tend to get "better" units. For instance, Germans get Panthers as a stock tank compared to Soviet T34/76s. Doesn't necessarily make for imbalance, but it's a little hard to become a devoted follower for a faction whose units are mostly 1941/1942 in a game that is for the most part set in 1944. |
Yeah I kinda have the feeling this faction is gonna just be OKW, except maybe with T34-85s instead of Panthers.
Which is logical I suppose because IIRC this faction won't have a resource penalty, and super units without even the penalty = super win. |
