Thread: Is it worth it to play as USF?23 Sep 2014, 23:03 PM Is USF really a drag for a soviet ally? To me it feels like riflemen are a great front line complement to snipers, and Jacksons ameliorate the soviet lack of hard hitting AT weapons. M1919s and zooks provide two things the soviet lack - cost effective LMG infantry and AT infantry. Also, against OH openings with lots of MG42s, smoke nades are the great, especially when you get them in the phase when OH still needs to rely on MG42s. Am I right, or am I just using a bad setup against players who aren't very good, and then finding the setup to be okay? In: Lobby
Thread: Commander Survivor - Season Finale23 Sep 2014, 22:38 PM With the others there was an obvious "gut reaction" choice, this one I'm actually not sure. I don't have anything against the ones remaining. The new factions having fewer docs seems to have made the docs higher quality on average. If you asked around here I don't think you'd get much negative about 2/3 of the US commanders, and the only widely despised OKW one is Elite Armor. Mind you, I'm just talking about my own subjective perceptions and those of other people ... In: COH2 Gameplay
Thread: Ability to choose RT partner faction23 Sep 2014, 22:33 PM US with soviets is actually pretty nice IMO. You get a solid stock infantry unit that scales into late game and heavy tanks at the same time as an allied team - not bad. On the other hand, at least in my experience, playing double US is just awful at the moment, whereas when you have a soviet ally in a 2v2, the game is still fun. So it'd be nice to have some influence over who your random team allies are. I doubt it would happen, though. Automatch is already strained by the axis-allies imbalance, so putting additional stress on it probably isn't a good idea. In: COH2 Gameplay

Thread: Where are we on recon support? for 2v2 at least23 Sep 2014, 03:37 AM I'm a little puzzled by this commander that I just got through war spoils. The I&R pathfinders I definitely see the use of, and having extra sight on riflemen makes them better spotters for various units like Jacksons. The recon plan is whatever. The Greyhound is pretty cool IMO - protects you from OH rushing a scout car and it's good against infantry and snipers. Is it worth it over the M20? The final ability seems like it isn't really that usable unless you are heavily winning or for some reason have lost a huge part of your army and have floated 900 MP. To me it just feels like airborne has more to offer in general - the P47 strike is a nice late game ability that helps you take on axis heavies, and you have much easier access to paras. Personally, I'm not a fan of people who leave games all the time, but it wouldn't really occur to me to go and actively complain about it since it's just a part of human nature/the terribleness of random 2v2s. I feel your frustration but naming and shaming isn't the way to go, dude. It's a little vigilante. Talking about leaving is worthwhile, maybe, if kept anonymous. Let me share an experience about a guy who left me. We were 25 minutes into a this pretty solid 2v2 together. He was playing Mechanized Assault Doctrine, I was using Luftwaffe. Things were great. I felt like we didn't talk about doctrine and build order choices enough, but nobody's perfect, right? I noticed things were a little off when I realized he was only building assault grenadiers. He had five at one point. We got pushed off the field hard because only I had Pgrens, PAKs, halftracks, things like that. I think he was just spamming Agrens and waiting for a Tiger. He dropped once we started getting crushed and said "next time build tanks" before leaving! It just felt so unfair. If he told me he wanted to tech skip and rely on call-ins I wouldn't have liked it, sure, but at least I'd have known about it, and I could have supported him by rushing faster for a P4 or whatever. /feels In: Lobby

If a unit literally one shots your whole army and base as soon as it hits the field, you can't adapt to that. That's an extreme example obviously but some things are not worth even trying to deal with. As a top ten player, have you ever felt this way about a balance issue in CoH2? Not to go into anything specific as this isn't a balance thread; just curious how people at different levels approach things. I've done my best to explain why that is a terrible opinion to hold. You are not convinced, that is fine, but hopefully others who hold your views can read my arguments and consider them fairly. You make some very good points, Inverse. I admit that "unintended =! wrong." In this case, though, I dislike having this mechanic in the game even if I don't term it "abuse." It contradicts the way squads generally work in the game, and you have to click around in spastic way to make it happen. In this case it doesn't matter much because the benefit is small. It's kinda like the US pop cap exploit - yeah, it's weird, but if your US enemies are sitting around recrewing their Shermans over and over, the match was probably a stomp in their favor anyway. In other cases, however, when these clunky and counter-intuitive "unintended features" give significant advantages to players who use them, you end with a situation where anyone who wants to have an equal chance has to spastically work through wonky mechanics. It's not "evil" or anything, it just makes the game into a crappier game. What do you make of that bug where you can gain an extra squad as OKW with the salvage ability? Kinda a loaded question, but I'm also sincerely curious what you would make of that. In: COH2 Gameplay
