Looking for some thoughts on some bulletins I recently got. Maybe if other people are interested in the same thing this could become a general thread for that.
Panther +5% speed and acceleration
- Pretty fantastic, right? Panther already very fast and this makes it a little faster. Might conceivably make the difference between barely escaping and getting scraped.
Volksgrenadiers -10% suppression
Not sure about this one. I don't really have much of an issue of my volks getting suppressed. I suppose if I could triple stack it, it could make my blobs of volks even stronger....

IGN reviews are pointless because the reviewer rarely puts enough time or effort into the game to have something insightful to say about it. Hence, one of the most frequent negatives is "the game was too haaarrddd." Hence, games like Skyrim get extremely high scores because they're easier.
Not completely the fault of the reviewer, mind you. Review cycles give them far too little time to meaningfully engage with the game. How on earth can someone write a useful review of a (for instance) 80 hour RPG game meant to be played over a few months after playing it for a week? It's like giving someone a copy of Moby Dick, giving them 3 hours to read it, and then getting a review back saying "story was way too slow, writing was very hard to get through." |
Maybe this idea has come up before, but I've never seen it. I suspect there's some reason this wouldn't work but either way, I'd like to know how it could work, or why it wouldn't.
Would it help out the US a lot if the Jackson got reworked into a well-protected, hard-hitting unit? Give it decent armor and higher penetration, and then adjusting the cost to compensate.
This would hopefully bring US late game micro more in line with the other factions as they would gain a unit that is effective without any special maneuvering (like Panthers for the Germans).

I'm looking forward to seeing these two units a little less constantly. |
Can't we all at least agree that the current "counter the B-4" situation is bad?
Used doc with Stuka dive bomb = instakill it by clicking twice
I haven't seen it enough to comment on it being too hard to kill WITHOUT Stuka dive bomb, but it getting one-shotted by an off-map that cannot be stopped is complete BS. If it still kept a sliver of health the soviet player would at least have a chance to save it with extensive repairs.

They're good, but not as good for their time as VCoH's graphics were. |
At this point of DLC and expansions, the game has Sturmtigers and partisans, which would be the perfect units for creating a very distinctive mission pack based around this event. Also, we have mod tools now, so we can do pretty much anything we want.
For those who aren't familiar with it, the Warsaw ghetto uprising was a revolt by the inmates of the ghetto against the Nazis. It was countered ultimately by flattening the city and was one of the few occasions that Sturmtigers were actually used.
From what I understand the actual event was pretty one-sided, but it's not like the game hasn't taken some serious liberties already for the sake of game play.
One of the reasons I've been thinking of this is
1) It's an important event.
2) It could provide for some interesting game play. Perhaps the uprising is always fated to lose in the face of overwhelming fire power, but has some objectives that can be completed.
What do you all think? Good idea, or bad taste? I would argue that it's no worse taste than the things we saw the soviets do in the main campaign, but then again, two wrongs don't make a right. Anyway, the way I'm envisioning it, the player controlled faction would be the uprising, not the Nazis.
Also, if you'd like, what are your thoughts on depicting such events in a video game? Part of me would agree that games, in the current state of the medium, and probably including CoH, are generally not equipped to depict this subject matter in an appropriate and deft manner.

I don't see the harm when you can veto it. Make the requirement unanimous for team games.
Worst case is that it's hard to get a pause in 4v4s ... which is seriously not an issue, because currently it is impossible to get a pause in any game mode.
As for unmannered, for working people/people with small chidren/whatever it may not often be possible to plan 60 minutes where NOTHING can happen to interrupt you ... so adding this makes the game more accessible, while detracting nothing (if it's unanimous). |
My opinion: RNG is fine as long as there are ways that players can intelligently mediate and calculate the risks. Does my opponent have a mortar? I have to prepare for the chance that it will land a hit, but I can do things, like spacing out my infantry, to avoid it.
So issue I have with plane crashes is that they frequently punish players for shooting down a plane. That makes no god damn sense. If I have the foresight to build some AA halftracks, or an Ostwind, why should there be a random chance that those units doing their job will get me nuked? If that's going to be the case, then there should be way to tell AA units to not shoot planes. That way, getting plane nuked is still possible, but you can minimize the risk by playing better.

I like the teching idea - you probably know this already, but Cruzz implemented that in this "Kappatch" mod.
Current situation is a little tricky IMO because you have to invest resources to unlock the crappier tanks like T-34/76, ie, you have to "research" to get early war stuff, but if you just wait long enough, you get later war equipment like T-34/85s for free. Making everything require a research or tech investment would be nice.
Since building soviet T-34 hits you as bad as losing a T-34/85 (in terms of fuel), players are taking a rather large loss just by building tech buildings. |
