just because you aren't restrained by law, does not mean you shouldn't restrain yourself.
maybe there are jewish developers in relic, which is very possible
Stephen Fry would like a word with you: "It's now very common to hear people say, "I'm rather offended by that", as if that gives them certain rights. It's no more than a whine. It has no meaning, it has no purpose, it has no reason to be respected as a phrase. "I'm offended by that." Well, so fucking what?"
So you're saying that Swastikas(For historical authenticity sake) shouldn't be in CoH2 because there might be jewish people at Relic who might be offended? It's really quite ridiculous that just become someone is offended, that they should be given special privileges. In this case, it's determining what symbols, uniforms and etc can be crafted into the game.
I'd argue that games are an art and thus shouldn't be forced to conform to the poison that is political correctness or various laws the Germans have in place over in their fatherland.
Either way, the solution is very simple. For the Germans and Russians, they can have the censored version while free countries like Canada, the UK, the US and etc can have the uncensored version. |
Germany is still a market of 80 million people. In sales for coh2 that is a couple of thousand games, commanders and other p2w stuff not getting sold because they went with swastikas instead of the iron cross.
A slight artistic change or less monies? Any company that goes with the latter isn't doing what it is supposed to be doing. And yes the one and only reason for any company to exist is to generate revenue.
They are responsible primarily to their investors and shareholders NOT their customers.
Again, a POTENTIAL market of 80 million people. Do you care to take a guess as to where the CoH franchise has made most of its capital? The UK, Canada and the US or Germany, France and Russia? I'll place my bet on the former. Please be realistic here, most people who bought CoH2 are from Canada, the UK and the US and I'd be willing to wager that the sales from Germany, Russia and etc are very small compared to UK and North American sales. Relic won't lose anything if they chose not to sell CoH2 in Russia and Germany, since the potential markets there are abysmal at best. |
I'm not sure the Aussies would agree. My Canadian army great grandfather (WW1) was very happy he was not in the British army. His Canadian army pension was worth twice that of his British compatriots and meant his family suffered far less in post war London than those of badly wounded British ex servicemen.
I don't think Quinn hates the army, just the faction design. I would love to have a new Commonwealth army
Yes to Churchills, cromwells, Matilda's and Bren carriers. No to point locking trucks, mortars which cover the whole map and stodgy blobby unkillable infantry sections
I guess it depends on who you talk to. My family has a long history of fighting for the British Empire and for this country(Canada), so a lot of my family who served in the Army considered themselves part of the British Army. I also have no doubt that a lot of Australians who fought in WW1 and 2 also considered themselves part of the British Army as well.
The way you typed it, made it seem like Quinn hates the British themselves instead of the faction. Anyways, obviously the British won't be the same as they were in CoH1 if you look at the US faction; Relic overhauled the US so it's a bit amusing to see everyone lose their minds at the thought of the British being added, when most likely they'll be overhauled just like the US was.
Here's hoping Canadian infantry will be included which serves as the elite infantry for the British Army. Here's a fun fact, did you know in WW1 and 2, Canadian infantry were considered the best the British Empire could field. You guys needed Canadian infantry to break stalemates and turn losses into victories. |
The Swastika isn't banned in the UK, Canada and the US which is where the CoH franchise has made most of its capital, so if Relic were to add swastikas(I wouldn't want them on vehicles since most German vehicles had the iron cross on it instead of Swastikas) I really can't see it affecting the franchise. Relic already pissed off the Russians and no amount of pandering is going to win them back, so it's pointless to appease them, and there's not enough Germans(Countries where the Swastika is banned) that play this game, where it will impact the longevity of the franchise.
Anyways, it's important to note that Relic is a Canadian developer and as such there is no law here in Canada that prohibits someone from displaying Nazi imagery both in public and in private. I could raise a Nazi flag on my front yard and it would be legal. So really, there's literally nothing stopping Relic from adding Swastikas to the game- they've just chosen not to since I think they were trying to market this game to Russians, but it obviously backfired |
I personally agree. Political correctness is the reason for why units, flags and etc are heavily changed/censored; it's a poison that affects both the host and the user and I hope one day it will be gone forever. Another interesting note is that here in Canada, the US and the UK(Where CoH sells most of its copies), it's not illegal to display Nazi or Soviet symbols but developers still choose to censor certain images.
I think Stephen Fry said it best: "It's now very common to hear people say, "I'm rather offended by that", as if that gives them certain rights. It's no more than a whine. It has no meaning, it has no purpose, it has no reason to be respected as a phrase. "I'm offended by that." Well, so fucking what?"
People are offended by Nazi and Soviet symbols? Who the hell cares? |
The British and by extension all of its territories and dominions have been referred to as the British Army for ages. My grandfather who fought in the Canadian Army in WW2 still considered himself to be a part of the British Army, despite being in the Canadian Army.
Anyways, I think this highlights how important Josh Mosqueira was to Relic; he made the greatest rts game and innovated the rts genre. He also no doubt pressed for the British Army being added since he was an officer in the Canadian Army. It appears to me that Quinn Duffy hates the British, but unfortunately Josh isn't at Relic anymore to balance things out.
Actually, I'll add that to my list; please bring back Josh Mosqueira to Relic. |
There's a lot of things I want but I'll list a few that immediately come to mind:
1) The British Army/Canadian Army- This is most important to me because I practically only played the British in CoH1(Along with a fair number of Panzer Elite games), and found them to be the best faction in the game due to the incredible voice acting, the aesthetic appeal of the units and because there was Canadian artillery. I'm hoping Relic hasn't forgotten that they're a Canadian developer and thus they owe it to the Canadian troops who fought and died in WW2 to add the British Army, along with perhaps a commander that has Canadian infantry as a call-in unit(The British' elite unit if you will).
Canadian infantry units in WW1 and WW2 were considered the best infantry the Allies could front, so it would be amazing if we were represented in the game via the British Army since a lot of Canadian troops fought with the British, as well as commanded by British officers and Generals.
Here's a fun fact, the lead game designer of CoH1 and the expansion Opposing Fronts was a retired Canadian Army officer, so i'm sure he pressed hard to have the British Army in(And by extension the Royal Canadian Artillery), but he's not with Relic anymore so i'm hoping the current dev team understands their roots.
2) Waffen SS General or officer unit- This is another unit that's needed for the OKW since the Sturm Officer is actually a Heer officer, and not actually a Waffen SS officer like he's supposed to be. I'm just confused as to why they made the Sturm Officer look like a Heer officer(The insignia's, collar tabs mainly), but made the Obersoldatens look exactly like their real life counterparts. Anyways, this one actually doesn't require too much work but knowing Relic, they're not going to fix the Sturm Officer anytime soon or even ever.

Apparently not if people are complaining the PPSh's are a downgrade. They do good damage at close range so it actually does come down to a learn to play matter.
The PPSH's can be considered a downgrade if you try to use the PPSH's to win long or medium range engagements though. |
The PPSH's are fine if you know how to use them. A lot of people apparently think the PPSH is an assault rifle and thus should be exceptionally good at both medium and short range. If you get in close to the enemy by flanking and using tactical manoeuvres then the PPSh's do good damage.
It basically comes down to people not using them correctly. |

Ardennes Assault is a single-player expansion only so no, you can't use Rangers in multiplayer. |
