I am not a fan of the Vet 1 abilities for Soviet/Whermacht that are copied and pasted across multiple units.

That is true but another story. A veterancy overhaul is need 4.5 years now.
My point is that tracking is actually strong on SU-76.

The ability itself isn't bad but it doesn't fit with the theme of the unit nor does it make sense for it to be on the SU-76 and Su-85. Being able to track units in the fog of war is something you would expect from a reconnaissance unit such as the T-70 or the M3A1 Light Scout Car. At the moment the ability is a worse version of the Whermacht spotting scope except you have to keep repaying ammo over and over for the extra sight as opposed to a one time purchase.

Also if you use Conscripts to screen for your Su-76 or you make a T-70 to recon then the added sight from the tracking is pointless and situational at best which makes it just another useless vet 1 ability among many that the original factions have to deal with.

The SU-76 needs either :

1. Vet 1 provides Ammo Switching ability to switch from AP to HE Shells

2. Vet 1 provides ammo cost reduction for the barrage ability making it
free

3. Vet 1 provides additional sight similar to spotting scopes while the
unit is stationary due to the open chasis of the tank.

Any one of those changes and you would see the SU-76 more often. At the moment its just better off passing on the unit and rushing to Tier 4 for a more reliable use of your fuel.

Not having an 80 second recharge time for the barrage would be nice.

If ostwind can be reworked so can su 76 be reworked as well.

Actually is is a better version of the "Infantry Awareness" stock ability which provides only mini map information.

The tracking ability allows the SU-76 to use the barrage more effectively.

I do agree that it should be available to SU-85 since combined with focus sight it is OP.

As for spotting scopes they are a doctrinal ability that with the recent buff is not even that great. Tracking and Hammer tracking can be used to chase enemy vehicles while spotting scopes cannot.
