It's updated only recently, but it's sad day, lead COH 2 designer since september 2013 Mitch Lagran left relic, I think this guy really did great job to improve coh 2 after rocky start and turn coh 2 to one of the best rtses ever, also he was designer on space marine, campaign lead on ardennes assault and was lead designer on aoe 4.

People come and go, that's the norm for.

No need to make a fuss about it, the important thing is for Relic to just find what made their first 2 games, Dawn of War and Company of Heroes great, and just get back on track of that same innovation and fun, dark, gritty and immersive gameplay design instead of... cartoony, bright colored and censored MOBA competitive mish-mashes that try to be a little bit of everything but fail at anything. I also think that they should provide better modding tools to their communities and most importantly fans. Company of Heroes is a fine game but it's 11 years old and mods certainly help keep the playerbase around for sure.

Lead game designer for a game that stopped being designed and developed 2 years ago moves on.

That is news worthy how and why?

Take out the Moba part and you have CoH2 basically.

They never really tried to go hardcore competitive and even e-sports with CoH and that's why I think the game was better designed, better balanced and more fun, at least to me.

in my experience the lead designer or leader from a part doesnt really effect the future from a projekt. important are the developers which bring their heart to the projects.

the head of a office is only there to divide and rule.

You mind me asking what your experience is exactly?

Cause I'm an electrician and if we don't do what the boss wants exactly we have to re-do it to his specs or else we don't get paid, so while your free spirited development sounds good on paper in reality whoever pays gets to have the final word in something, not whoever is actually doing it.

All the very best talent were those who worked on COH1. COH2 had too many ups and downs and was only balanced/not-bad after like 3 years.

Exactly, which is why I made my quote about how I wished THQ was still here and make CoH2. CoH1 was so much better balanced.

Umm, you do realize that publisher(which THQ was) has completely no saying in games balance, because they couldn't care less and don't even track statistics other then concurrency, retention and play time?

That's like complaining that its SEGA which is responsible for balance in CoH2 instead of relic.

Small update related to Unannounced CoH Projects.

Mitchell Lagran updated his LinkedIn profile. Before working on AoE4 he was lead designer on Unannounced Project and one cancelled project:

https://www.linkedin.com/in/mlagran/

Info from this Relic Senior Game Designer, Brock Robin indicates development on this CoH project since at least 2017 (after DoW3 fail):

Unannounced RTS (PC)
Core gameplay designer responsible for transitioning game into new engine and authoring pipeline.

Also possible related here is Graeme McCormack working on "New IP / Unannounced Projects - Concept artist and product development":

Graeme McCormack "leaked" some Relic concept art which indicates they are working on CoH modern/sci-fi warfare:

This page art seems to explore post apocalyptic/alien warfare:

Maybe modern / sci-fi is needed for Homeworld 3? I honestly don’t imagine the Company of Heroes modern, it has an excellent setting for the Second World War, with a huge number of unused fractions, equipment and time periods. Moreover, CoH mechanics are not very compatible with guided missiles, MBTs that replace all tanks, etc.
The maximum where I see the Company of Heroes is the mid-60s (Caribbean Crisis of 1962).
In the period 1945-1960s, a huge number of cool tanks, armored personnel carriers, artillery, etc. were created. but they are still close to the concept of World War II. And only the first helicopters and MBT began to appear.

Isnt Dawn of War sci-fi Coh?

Yes DoW2. Important quote from CoH2/AoE4 game director:
Quinn Duffy to VideoGamer.com in 2012 about the future of COH3:
https://www.videogamer.com/news/company-of-heroes-could-move-out-of-wwii

Recent reddit discussions about this;
https://www.reddit.com/r/CompanyOfHeroes/comments/66w8mk/relic_if_we_wanted_to_do_company_of_heroes_3_in/

"As we go forward, if we wanted to do Company of Heroes 3 in 2190 we could," Duffy continued, "because we know what we want to do to make it feel like a Company of Heroes game."

Later, Duffy added: "We wanted to take the element of WWII out of the creative vision and focus for the game moving forward. It is setting-agnostic. Company of Heroes doesn't have to be a World War II game. You can set it in modern times in Fallujah, you could set it in the past."

Yes DoW2. Important quote from CoH2/AoE4 game director:

Why then did you need a survey about the future Company of Heroes in 2017? There clearly won the Africa / Italian company. And although I do not agree with this (the theme of the Eastern Front has not been disclosed, and this is the sale of the same fractions for the third time), to create a Company of Heroes about the modern warfare / sci-fi this will go against the audience’s desire.
