It is entirely situational. Generally speaking, if you want play more aggressive... use G43s with 3-4 grens. Otherwise MG42s are a no-brainer upgrade for all play styles.

At medium range I prefer G43s, simply because if a grenade gets thrown I can dodge it while still applying damage.

G43s

  • Apply damage on the move
  • straight DPS upgrade at all ranges\
  • Doctrine specific

MG42

  • Requires squad to be stationary
  • Performs better at long range

Hope this helps!

It depends whether a g43 doctrine suits your build and whether you prefer to a-move or flank with your gren blob ;) G43s are also often preferable when you have munition issues due to their lower cost.

G43, ups DPS of all models with G43s mid range

LMG42 one model with excellent long range.

Just go with whatever suits your style and the engagements you get.

The MG42 is a beast in a house (even with only 1 window) but the G43 are better on the move out and about.

Long range gun is the best gun, if you want close ranged on the move stuff, go for panzergrens :D

MG42 is best, Grens beat the hell out of Riflmen with that upgrade.

Pgrens perform best static at medium range. They are not shock troops. Pretty sure grens with G43 are better moving in at close range than pgrens.

G43 is better, they snipe low HP models all the time. Being stationary to apply damage is kind of a crux with all the grenades and indirect fire. It depends on the game mode mostly for me. In 3v3 / 4v4 it feels like a death sentence to sit there firing. But G43 mobility is superior. 1v1/2v2 entirely different as there isn't 5-6 mortars dropping on 1 squads head.

There is no direct way to compare them, both are very good and both snipe models like crazy. There are different circumstances when you want one or the other. It depends on a map, your playstyle and obviously your commander of choice.

First of all, the playstyle part. When you form your grenblob, you will use it differently depending on the weapon of choice. With lmg blob you will attack move it, with g43 blob you will often try to close the gap or flank by issuing move commands.

Then come the maps, on open maps the attack move strategy works better so you will prefer mg42. On city maps you will go either for g43 or even for some pios or pgrens instead of gren blob. In that are somewhere in between these two, g43 blob will be perfect.

Finally, you might not wont to go for g43s just becouse your commander of choice doesn't have them. For example very popular mobile defence commander has no g43s so they are a little out of the loop now.

Additional notes:
- You can't drop g43, so if you are afraid to lose a squad and then fight against lmg conscript or penal, you might prefer this upgrade.
- Lmgs and other automatic weapons do more damage against bigger groups of soldiers than against single ones.
- Lmg takes a lot of time to rotate, that is why it is possible that it won't shoot at all in close quarters engagements.
- G43 is a plain upgrade on all ranges and on the move. Lmg is a better upgrade on long range but a downgrade on short range and on the move. So if you are not sure what to choose, g43 upgrade is a safer bet.

I don't think grenadier g43s work the same way as the JLI or pathfinder rifles in that they don't "crit shot" low health models. They're just a straight dps upgrade for grens IIRC.

I thought they did.

A second benefit of G43s is that they're cheaper: you get three sets for the price of two LMG42s.

Huh I could be wrong. I always thought it was really noticeable when JLIs or even pathfinders did it but have never really noticed with the gren g43s but I've never seen any stats about it so there's nothing empirical behind that.

No, they don't crit. The crit thing appeared in wfa factions and was not used in earlier efa factions.

The scoped G43 is the rifle that can crit. The standard G43 does not. And I’m not 100% sure if it’s a straight boost in DPS at max range, since I know the G43 has worse far accuracy than the Kar98 of standard grenadiers.

You could also use both: use two G43 grens to flank while having 2-3 LMG grens to take long range engagements, occupy houses, etc. Also try to use interrogation, it's free! You could also try pgrens with G43's: they get increased sight, much higher long range damage (20% more than vanilla grens), while maintaining superb short and midrange damage.

I find G43 grens don't work that well against rifles with BAR's, because they get outperformed at all ranges, whereas LMG grens still beat them at long range. The same is probably true against penals.

Technically, all G43 models in the game right now are scoped. There is no unscoped model in the game. Pathfinders and OKW JLI introduced crit versions because the WFA armies lacked snipers. To my knowledge, no other G43s on any other squads crits, though perhaps OKH JLI Command Squad might crit, but I believe they just use the normal, non-critty Grenadier G43s.

I'd recommend g43s if you plan to be aggressive or are playing a map that doesn't have longer engagement ranges. g43s are still pretty good on the move and are really good for how much they cost.

The OST JLI squad does not crit.
