Is the STG-44 upgrade for volks worth the investment?

Hey Guys,

It's a long time ago that I have created a topic, but lately I'm really questioning if it is a good idea to upgrade my volks with STG44's. Mostly of the time I see the top tier players upgrading their troops, but really can't understand why. Mainly because I see more cons than pros. As for now I don't upgrade them because of the many cons.

Mainly pros and cons are:

Pros:
Increased close range dps (many units close in on you to do their max dps)
(this is the only pro I can think of)

Cons:
Losing long range dps
Can't pick up a dropped weapon
You've to close in on your enemy to get increased dps, while risking losing models of your own
60 munition is for me also 2 mines which can take out/cripple verhicles

Could you guys help me decide/explain me what the better choise is.

He was asking about the Volks USF specialist.

God what are you even doing on the Cossacks 3 forums...

Anyway, on topic, if you have a lot of close quarters encounters or are playing in a city map in which you need more close range firepower than long range one...

Hey Guys,

Cons:
Losing long range dps

that is incorrect, you do not lose long range DPS and that is why it is badly designed upgrade...

So you got the same dps as when you only have bolt action rifles?

Is losing a slot to pick up a dropped weapon and losing 60 muni a good trade off for the STG?

The STG upgrade increases dps at all ranges, this has been tested to death by the community when the change was introduced.

So the tradeoff is increased dps all around vs not being able to pick up weapons, which is a matter of RNG anyway. Imo it's very worth it.

5 k98-----------22.8 17.3 13.5 10.4 (Range 0,10,20,30)
2MP44+3k98--29.7 25.1 18.3 12.2
buff to DPS----130% 145% 135% 117%

It allow VG to fight allied infantry at all ranges and it probably one of the reason why VG still get to vet 5 and people do not spam SP...

you can always keep a Vg with out it to pic any weapon dropped...

my rule of thumb: dont use it on all of your squads, always have one unupgraded for stealing weapons.

The upgrade is a little iffy at times but if you have the munitions you should usually get them. The problem is if you get them too early then you can have no munis for faust, flame nades, mines or even shreck so buying stgs can put you in a dangerous position.

The thing that should be changed is the upgrade taking up two weapon slots. Sturms, pgrens start with 4x stgs yet they still have 2 slots, I think the volks upgrade should only take up 1 slot especially since they only get 2 stgs. Meanwhile brits can get double brens and usf can get 2 1919s on their squads, it doesn't make sense.

If you only directly compare starting weapons and weapon slots, of course it ain't gonna make no sense. PzGrens for have their two weapon slots because they are a transitional unit. They are supposed to fix the mess that is Ostheer's early infantry fuckery, while providing the necessary mobile AT support that prevents T-70s from going wild later on. Now, this of course doesn't work so well, because Soviets no longer work like they did in 2013 and some other factions have entered the field...

And if you compare anything with double-BAR upgrades, you should take into account that the BAR was supposed to be the ammo drain USF didn't have otherwise. One BAR was significantly worse than the lMG 42 Grens could get, so you needed two on a single unit to have a comparable increase in damage output. That idea went belly-up when the BAR was buffed beyond imagination without increasing the cost, which is why multiple Riflemen squads with two BARs are even possible in the first place. It's a similar problem to the short-lived Tank Hunter spam Soviets saw when the PTRS was buffed - the difference being that this was fixed, while the BAR-thing is obviously totally okay.

They are OK, they barely increase DPS, they dont really make up the difference between them and Bars/1919s/Brens, but its not like you have anything better to spend munitions on.

It may have been more worth it in the soviet shock troop meta, but vs double lmgs its slightly better than nothing.
