su85 feels somewhat nerfed.

i been using it alot and althought it does pen more it lost rotation speed, its base relaod speed, and vet2 reload speed which was huuge mistake they. they hit slower wish lowers dps. tested many times huge drop off. especially at vet 2 and up

I disagree, it's less of a RNG canon and it wrecks Panthers and Tigers alike. I trade the PewPewing at vet 2 for good penetration anytime. Good changes overall.

Well, the DPS at vet 2 was plain super OP against mediums.
But for that you can use a SU76.
Now SU85 is more like a heavy hitter.

Good changes overall.im used to chasing tigers and panthers while shooting fast and getting closer for higher rate of fire when i can. and i used to kill way faster then now. it lost 30% haste basically for a better chance to penetrate... htats a huge lose . test it out again trust me i keep testing it its less dps

Good changes overall.its not just the penetration. its the rotation speed to when a panther trying to run around u u cant reverse turn it to defend urself no more. i remember this being nerfed waay back . now another one is to much. its base rate of fire was nerfed to. i think if they were trying to buff this it should have got its penetration buff and thats it not the other nerfs. and the vet 2 change is a huge nerf. put it on a parser and see for urself

Maybe I am misunderstanding the stats, but I thought the rotation rate has increased in the balance preview?
Anyway I like the changes. Before the SU85 heavily overlapped with other units such as the su76 or t34/85, now it has its own niche role. The real enemy of the SU85 is poor pathing and sluggish controls which make it a nightmare to control and very hard to finish retreating tanks, but this is at least a step in the right direction.

As others have said, to solidify its role as a heavy tank destroyer as opposed to the SU-76 which is a light/med TD?

Would you recommend (in general) keeping the new Su85 in long-range sight mode more often, to rely more on range and less on maneuvering?

Pretty sure the rotation speed was buffed in the original update.
This. Soviets now have a light/medium tank destroyer, much like the Ostheer Stug, and a TD designed to tackle heavies. Great changes overall.

If you have units in the field which basically do the scouting for you there is no need for using focus-sight, since it decreases the su85's maneuverability and makes it vulnurable for unexpected flanks. There is nothing wrong though with doing little sneak peaks if you have no units in the field, just be aware of the cooldown of the ability. I mean it's basically an increased line of sight ability, so use it when you need it and if there are not enemy tanks incoming.

Current SU85 vet2 receives big nerf. The change from 0.7x reload to 1.3x penetration is just a cover. Actually, its dps bonus reduces greatly from 1/0.7=1.43x to 1.3x.
In other word, that's 30% reduction for vet 2 bonus, no less.
