What's worse than launching a P-47 Strafing Run, klll nothing but the Flak 38 shot the plane down and got crashed into your Rifles blob?

The Red Army called an IL-2 trying to mark a Panzer-4, but seemed that IL-2 was not so durable against the Panzer 4 MG42 gunner

It is especially funny because the mg turret on the tanks is somehow better at shooting down airplanes than the Ostwind and the M5.
Plus this is an IL-2. Ever tried shooting down one of those in War thunder? It takes ages in that game and the IL-2 really had ridiculous armor compared to most other aircraft of that time.

So random how planes gets shot down. I once called in 5 strafes in a single 1v1 game and my opponent got an m5 to try and shoot down the last 3. Yet despite them hanging around for more than a minute none of the planes got shot down...

i have to admit that i do not entirely know how shooting down planes work... but the IL-2 does not have a rear armor, and has both 1000 armor and 1000 hitpoints.
The top mounted MG42 of the PIV does 1.4dmg per hit and has a penetration of 1, which equals a 0.1 percent chance to penetrate (and everything below 3% is 0 for the game).

also, the only critical a IL-2 plane can sustain is "vehicle destroy" which only happens at 0 hitpoints, so it's not a critical either :-/

in vCOH, they have changed the plane crashing mechanism, the plane crashing in vCOH makes less impact to game play
