And I don't mean it like the update was bad or anything, I mean it that modding is the best thing period, even if the balance / design changes were revolutionarily good.

Searching for an automatch game with a custom skinpack (probably hundreds of megabytes (MB)) would force your opponent(s) to download the skinpack.
Depends on the implementation. In CoH1 you could make use of custom skin packs (not just for vehicle like in CoH2 but for all map objects) in automatch. From the players perspektive all units and objects used custom skins but from the opponents point of view nothing chanced, he still saw the default skins. It was a client based solution. I hoped something like this would be added with this patch to CoH2. Sadly this isn´t the case.

Why no custom skins/decals in automatch if there option to turn them off for all who dont like this kind of stuff? This feature is awesome, but it pretty limited if you can use it only in custom games.

Which is the reason the automatch support for custom items should be more flexible:
Download the missing items during the game at a moderate speed and display them once the download has finished. The whole concept of custom inventory items is a bit strange because of this policy.
Sure, none wants to download a 300 MB skinpack in a loading screen (download in-game instead), but smaller items like faceplates or decals would go easily. Automatch is popular and I can imagine people would like to display custom items there.

So.........can it be used in multiplayer? That's the important question.
Relic have said that in automatch only original assets can be used, down to skins and decals.
