What if i told you...

It's not smart installing updates without reading what they actually do.

Example latest updates for w7/8 install W10 ads, and tracking processes. /just google it..

What if I told you...

Not installing security updates allows me to trivially take control of your computer.

Depending on what the update patches of course.

And yes. Microsoft sucks.

I've given up on the privacy things. Why should I give a single thought to it when Google, Facebook and the NSA already have all my data?

Atleast private company's only seem to use it for advertisement. All it does is make the porn on my sidebars more relevant.

I upgraded as well just for curiosity, everything looks fine (from win 7).

I've never seen an update process going so well before. I lost absolutely nothing (obviously no data, but also every single program or driver I need still working as well).

I think anyone on win 8 should do it without much questions since it was so bad. Coming from win 7 it's mostly questionable for privacy and auto updates.

But tbh if you have any of those concerns you should be on Linux anyway (or any other open source OS). If it wasn't for all of those programs and games tied to Windows I'd be gone from it a long time ago, no version will probably change that fact. With that in mind, free upgrade that doesn't seem to break stuff for me? Sure why not.

DONT DO IT!
for everyone who upgraded it still and have luck with it, well enjoy it.
But its a big risk to do it. I decide after long thinking about it to upgrade. After i have just a black screen and a mouse. So I have to reinstall all again.

Its just a BETA!, maybe free, but not finished yet, so much programs / games could have problems with it. So pls if you want stable Windows stay 8.1.
I know what im talking heard a lot of negative feedback too. Never try free stuff in the first year. :snfAmi:

Because this attitude is exactly what the government and major corporations want.

If you don't care about your privacy please PM me so we can arrange for me to have an exact copy of all your browsing history, everything you purchase with your credit card/debit cards, BCC me on all emails sent/received, every program you run (and when you run them), your address, your full name... shall I keep going?

I firmly believe that privacy is a civil right and it is nauseating that a company like Microsoft would turn on so much spyware by default.

Been having a few bugs. I was having way too many issues with the in-place upgrade, so I did a clean install. Much better, but still not amazingly stable.

Nice not having those Windows 8 overlays breaking my concentration all the time. Start Menu is still very app-orientated. I guess they don't care much for people using programs that they don't get a cut from.

Why?

When I upgraded to Windows 10, my PC basically went into this constant loop where it would reboot the computer every single time I turn it on. Then ask for a repair or recovery b/c it reboot so many times.

The weird thing is that it only happened when I was connected to the internet, when I unplugged my internet, it didn't reboot.

I hear it's b/c of windows update is bugged really bad.

I would recommend upgrading in the future once they found out and fixed all the bugs.

I basically revert back to Windows 7 and everything is perfect.

I've been tempted to upgrade but I haven't yet because I'm afraid of the bugs. I don't want to be microsoft's beta/alpha. Besides, I have no issues with the older windows.

...Start Menu is still very app-orientated. I guess they don't care much for people using programs that they don't get a cut from.

You can customize the start menu with onboard options.

Example for a minimalistic startmenu:

Not sure why stuff like this isn't a design option in the settings.

I certainly do like Win10. It runs properly, stable, and isn't a ressource hog either. The sleak and minimalistic default design i also prefer over older versions. Bugs i haven't encountered at all so far, besides a few outdated drivers not working - duh.

Apple, Google, Facebook, etc, are certainly not that different in terms of data mining, and everyone should decide for himself what to use, and what not.
Though i kinda have to agree with Ciez. The default privacy settings of Win10 are one hell of a joke and f'ing annoying to get rid off, with basic settings all over the place, services that run for no reason, including some that can only be removed properly via permissions.
Apropo jokes: i wanted to test the update feature on one PC. And Microsoft is so kind to force change the installation language due geo IP.

And hey, windows always liked to run all kinds of crap by default, so there's that.

I was under the impression that I had to do the in-place upgrade first to qualify for the free upgrade.

Ooh, I can resize the Start Menu? That's a nice touch!

However, every guide I google on customising the Start menu says to right-click on the taskbar, select Properties, and click on the Start Menu tab. Guess what doesn't exist in my version?

Edit: Never mind. Found it all under the new Settings thingo.

Also, I've since realised that they refer to all programs as apps now. They've just bundled everything together. That's fairly reasonable, although I could do without the clutter of the apps that come bundled with Windows. Still, the search option bypasses most of that, and I like the way it finds stuff in the Settings panel.

I think you have to specify. Not working in what particular way?

Like the start menu doesn't pop up at all? And with Cortana, cant the AI pick up on your voice or are you unable to activate the function?

...Sometimes you’ll need software updates to keep using the Services. We may automatically check your version of the software and download software updates or configuration changes, including those that prevent you from accessing the Services, playing counterfeit games, or using unauthorized hardware peripheral devices. You may also be required to update the software to continue using the Services...

Windows 10 will disable your unauthorized software and hardware.

Now i know why people love Windows 10, its so good. :hansWUT::hansWUT::hansWUT::hansWUT::hansWUT:
