This is why I don't use hotkeys. Just arrow keys to move camera.

This is also the reason why I always use control groups.

I do find it forces me to pay attention to every unit, which leads to better preservation and better play.

You can do way way more if you play with hotkeys, trust me :P
I find that assigning the same numbers to the same unit types helps my infantry micro alot.
Core infantry gets numbers 1 - 4, snipers 5, MG's 6 and Pios 7. It helps alot. And to be honest, "R" and "T" are "must - use" hotkeys. I cant imagine playing without those.

Against better opponents, the more mouse work you have to do the worse it gets for you.

Well let me also ask then how do you move around the map? do you use arrow keys or click on unit profiles? I find that having to jump my hands from the arrow keys to the T an R key distracting and tiring.

Why not click on the minimap to move around the map or doubleclick the control group of your unit with your left hand

So I should assign control numbers to every group of infantry I build?

I either use my mouse to move the "screen" or i simply click on the minimap, while my left hand does all the hotkeys. After my 800 hours of playtime, it all got into muscle memory and i sometimes dont even recognize me using hotkeys. It just happens naturally and helps out alot. Also, by using the arrow keys to use the map, youre wasting one hand to do just that. Something that you can do way faster with your mouse by, for example, quickly clicking on the minimap.

Thanks guys I will have to start practicing my hand control then.
Sorry to steal your thread Z3r07. Although I do think the point I brought up is related. A lot of people focus on improving their unit micro or what unit counters what, but something I think is overlooked is how people use their keyboard and mouse.

Grid hotkey FTW

@Broodwarjc: it has been mentioned on the past, but autohotkey is a really good tool to bind the keys to your preference.

Once did something similar with two Jacksons.

Gridkeys are your friend.

the new "grid layout" is superior. Much less hand movement and the hotkeys are more consistent.

"On screen resource warnings" set to "off" and using grid keys are absolute no-brainers.
