The SU76

I cant think about a situation you want to built this unit except for trolling and I think I'm not alone. So I want to collect some suggestions how to make the SU76 viable.

I heard about Buffing the penetration but i think this will make the SU76 just a worse SU85.

Another idea is to swap it with the t70. I think its a good idea but i dont know if relic wants to change the soviets faction in this way. Because now you have the tanks in T3 and the assault guns in T4.

So my favorit buff would be to improve the AI. The SU76 never hits any Infantry and even the Barrage isnt the ultimate AI ability. So let the Su76 kill an entity sometimes would help.

What do you think about the SU76?

Give it a firing arc like the M8 Scott so it can auto-fire and barrage over shot blockers and buildings.

I think this is the way to go. The Red Army's T4 has no Anti Infantry units. Making the SU-76 more of an anti infantry unit with a larger AOE profile/splash dmg would help. Giving the M8 Scott unique ballistic profile would help too as the SU-76 is turretless and not very nimble.

This way the SU-76 would compliment the SU-85 quite well.

Just like in T3, the T70 is strictly an AI unit while the T-34/76 is both AI and AT.

It should be something like the mortar tank from USA but firing only when not moving.

i think su76 having literally no turret rotation (historically accurate as it may be) is one of its many downfall of this unit.

a slight movement of enemy vehicle will force su76 to rotate its full chassis, causing it to lose accuracy and whatnot. when chasing almost dead vehicles, because the front of the chassis has to face the enemy vehicle, it is infinitely harder to do than when chasing with su85, stug or whatnot.

+1 to indirect fire. I think of it like a pack howi on a chassis like the scott is. Would better the meta a bit too.

Swap it with the T-70 and give it a price decrease.

This would make both T3 and T4 very well rounded in artillery, AI and AT capabilities. With the T-70 in T4, it might actually be worth it to get T4 without having to choose a KV-8 doctrine.

I would really like to see the SU-76 viable. In one year I have never seen it viable in any of its iterations.

I would like it to have the same AT as the T-34/76 but with the option of switching to HE rounds.

Then it could also auto-bombard like the M8 scott.

Give the main gun bigger AOE / splash damage so it can actually hit infantry without relying solely on the barrage. If we can rely on this vehicle more for anti-infantry / anti-light vehicle duty, then it'll give the unit a much needed purpose for Soviet T4.

Give it a slight penetration buff and a decent health buff. The SU-76 is unpopular because 2 shots from anything stronger than a Puma will kill it.

Possible alternative: Replace Barrage with HE Shells, which lets it act similar to the ISG.

Either cut and paste the M8 with no turret. Move it to another Tier. Make it a puma clone. Right now its not as good at indirect as the M8 and not as good of a light tank killer as the Puma.

But relic hates this unit and wants it to always suck.

I would be happy to see it just get dropped in fuel cost to 50 or 55 (it used to be 55f a while back right?).

I think the idea is that you just zerg these things, but at the moment they don't seem quite THAT cheap that you can do so easily.

I used to build these a lot more often with mixed success, get three of them and they'll be a real threat to tanks with their high ROF and decent penetration. If one gets in danger, run away while the others keep harassing. Infantry coming with AT? Reverse and barrage with all of them to create a no-mans land.

It might be just that I haven't used them for so long and wasn't managing them properly but the other day I had trouble getting a decent number out, and each time I had even two on the field a Puma would just eat them alive. They had real trouble fighting back due to the speed and slow-ass rotation. The Puma could take them out really quick and scoot away though.

I just get the feeling if these things are cheap as chips you'll be able to just keep them rolling off the production line that numbers and replacability will counter any of their shortcomings.

The delayed teching times really gimped the usefulness of this unit.

I liked it even awhile after that.

I could see it being useful against OKW, since they have a lot of lighter vehicles. But why bother when a T70 will do the same thing better? The benefit of the SU76 was it was preempting an Su85 which dominated Wehr t3. This isn't really a concern against OKW mid-late game where infantry is their backbone.

^When I tried it against OKW earlier, Volks with Schrecks + Puma destroyed then faster than I could build them.
