I wonder what the real review state of Coh3 is at this point.

The Beginning
When the game first released it was missing a lot of things and had other issues. So initially people were Ok with some things since it was a new game. But those soon turned to disappointment because issues became glaring and were not being fixed. Initial reviews were like 60% positive.

The Middle
Over time the more casual players began to notice things that are wrong. Or maybe started to get bored. And the issues like campaigns being buggy were starting to be a real issues months after release.

The Noobs
There are a lot of complaints about balance. Many of these complaints were because the game is balanced around 1v1. So 4v4 players did not feel it was balanced. But a decent percentage were people that just lost a game or two and started whining. One review says the game is axis favored, the next says it is allies favored.

The Patches
Every time a patch comes out, someone loses a game and writes a bad review. The patch is only out for a few days and people are bombing the reviews.

With every patch comes more bad reviews. They have to blame something right? "The maps. The balance. Its not me, I am amazing!"

The Data
So how bad is the game really compared to the reviews? Lately the steam reviews have been around 50/50.

But this includes all of the people with unfounded complaints about balance because they lost a game or two.

So the real status could be as good as 60-70% if we ignore the complainers. But they are customers and their opinions count. But they mask the real status of the game.

People working at Relic/Sega-owned studios and many other corrupt corporations have a CHOICE that BOILS down to the bifurcation as those who honor universal laws vs. tyranny.

Honestly as for balance in teamgames, relic essentially planted a timebomb via how VPs and eco works in the game.

There are a lot of casuals in CoH3 right now, so its not that oblivious. But in 2v2+ all timings game is balanced around are basically thrown off the window.

In CoH3 MP is basically the most viable resource, not even muni and fuel. 1v1 at least have constant action and MP bleed for both sides. Best example is how DAK was UP in 1v1 due to MP economy, but more or less fine in team games. Opposite to USF, which was OP in 1v1 almost exclusively because of the amount of MP they got.

This creates situations where even slight mistake in what you are building and when can pretty much result in a lost game.

In a game where both teams are somewhat equally skilled 1 mistake is already can cost you a game, because due to map sizes, VP drain and over-all game phasing, there are almost no time to recover.

In a games where one side is even slightly better then the other, its pretty much insta GG, unless other side throw badly.

Basically for teamgames shitty match making is even more impactfull then it was in CoH2. And skill ceiling (or game knowledge what ever you prefer) for team games, funny enough, is also higher then it was in CoH2. In CoH2 new player can at least try to fight back and hold on somewhat, in CoH3 he will be just rolled over without any chances.

I completely get why a lot of people who played the previous game would still give it a bad review, even now. Until it reaches the same sort of threshold as 2 in terms of commanders and maps, how could you not view it negatively? Particularly if you never played the previous game on release or during its dark period.

There's still a lot of delusional criticism about balance but that's always going to be there. I really hope that it is allowed to develop and the expansion(s) with new maps and commanders can come through too, there is so much to offer in this game already in terms of the factions and their build variety, it could be awesome with more diverse commanders like in 2 and of course, careful balancing (yeah, I know, funny because its Relic).

For me its just a shame the sound sucks so much in all aspects, from the voice acting to the unreliable barks and warnings that were much better and more consistent in 2.

The deeper you look into Coh3, the more you see how great it would have been if they released it 2 years from when it was released. There are a ton of great ideas that are only about 65% fleshed out.

Sega/Relic clearly never learned the story of the young wolf wanting to race down and eat a sheep. But the old wolf says if we walk down slowly we can eat all the sheep. That is Coh3 in a nutshell. They ran down the hill got a few sales and killed the franchise.

The closer you look also reveals that about 20-35% of the people at Relic really know what they are doing. There are some amazing advances in the game etc. And right next to those advances are the dumbest moronic mistakes you have ever seen made by human beings. And they are the same type of dumb things that have plagued Coh1 and Coh2. Just lazy stupid things. If they waited 2 more years, one of the smart people could have noticed and fixed the dumb mistakes made by the goof offs. Now we will probably be saddled with these things forever.

Judging by the number of people relic employed for Coh3, they really shot for the stars. Sadly, they only got the moon and released the game.

I applaud them for the ambitious goals they had. Relic is a business and they probably needed cash to pay people. So it sort of makes sense. Just wonder why companies like ID never had to release unfinished work.

Back on topic: Is this why the reviews continue to get bombed? People keep finding unfinished things and carrying that disappointment until they break and review?

Game would've been just more polished and probably more content would've been pre-prepared to allow study flow, but fundamental problems would've been the same.

If you look at this whole year of patching, aside from a good job in a bug fixing department, relic basically are still fixing the problems in terms of balance and mechanics which were oblivious to anyone with a half-working brain cell.

Relic hiding all their balance changes until the day of patch, their judging method is unknown aswel as the way they collect data, there are no play testing or even pre-views to discuss possible changes.

All their patches objectively, 100% looks like they aren't tested at all or people who are responsible for this are playing vs AI. Every single patch it feels like they are just slapping values in based of a theoretical understanding of what affect it would have.

I have a feeling the PC version was rushed out. Which is a horrible look and drove off potential players forever. Then they had to release on Xbox. Then they had to release on Playstation. Then they have to put out a DLC.

So they started way behind and just keep getting pushed further behind by the morons in charge. Jan-Feb 2024 will be the important telling tale as to the future of Coh3. Once they get out from under the managements thumbs. But who knows, the management sucks so horribly bad they will probably force micro-transaction crap instead of finishing the game.

The thing that makes them money is single player. Campaigns, comp stomp, etc. These modes were no where near ready for release. People cant play the campaign because it gets locked by a bug. The pathing and AI are no where near ready for release.

One of the largest complaints about the campaigns (besides being bugged) is the AI was way too easy. If you play against the AI, it is terrible. AI does not A-move. AI never takes important points, it walks right past them. AI never shoots at you, it just parades around in front of your units. AI pulls its vehicles all the way back to your base and parks them in positions that they cant even be repaired. Yet many things the AI does seems really good. This all smells of not being done.

Pathing is a mess. Tell a vehicle to move up 15 meters and it drives in a 25 meter circle??? No way this game was ready for launch. This is the stuff that smacks casuals in the face and prompts a bad review.

So we get bad reviews from casuals for unfinished work and we get bad reviews from ladder players because the balance and fundamental issues.

The game is not that bad for most people.

Not sure why people keep saying that games being rushed = bad. Games historically have always been rushed. Very few games benefit from being delayed and that is typically just last minute changes or bug fixes.

COH3 was doomed from the start. It has no theming, no direction and tried to cater to the e-sports scene hence why the game is so stupidly colorful to make it easier to see on the commentators screen while spending 90% of the budget on the stupid cinematics and marketing. The whole game itself goes against typical game development design.

Most of the employees who previously worked on the prior CoH titles aren't even employed at Relic anymore. It's just full of delusional corporate elites that plaster their in-game news with paid IGN/GameSpot 9/10 ratings to ego stroke their insecure and worthless company. CoH3 feels like it was developed by fresh out of college interns with 0 dev experience.

Relic learned nothing from DoW3 nor their previous titles. But that's what happens when you employ a bunch of people who are just doing game programming for a paycheck with 0 passion or care about the actual game.

I think it's more about them being unfinished rather than 'rushed', with bugs and missing features that ruin the experience. Plenty of games are rushed in the sense that the developers are forced to crunch in order to get a semi reasonable product out on time, no doubt that they would benefit from a delayed launch because it gives them vital time to finish the product. It's just the nature of the industry.

I shudder to think how much worse this one would of been if it wasn't delayed. There's a very strong argument that it should have spent another year in development, at least.

I have recently watched two of AE's casts side by side, one of CoH2 and one of CoH3.
I have gotten a better impression of CoH3 than compared to launch. The late game sound atmosphere actually sounded better than CoH2, at least when watching.
But CoH3 is such a mixed bag. Some sounds, especially rifle fite, many explosions and other effects are not only underwhelming, but almost ridiculously funny. Some offmap (I don't know what triggered it, maybe some officer call in) had tiny explosions that honestly looked like place holders for an actual animation. Many movement animations feel weird, and especially the sprint on retreat is too fast. The overall impression of the early game was still very underwhelming. Models felt weightless and the game is still lacking visually. That's not to say that there were no good explosions, good sounds or movement animations etc. There definitely are, even really well done ones. But the bad ones are kind of too obvious and just destroy the atmosphere.

CoH2 is also not top notch on all departments, but at least 95% I'd rate as good or better. There's fewer visual issues to stumble upon, although a big part surely is that I have just gotten used to them to be fair.
Not sure how many issues you actually notice during playing in CoH3
