Old news: Operation Charlie Fox, 5 432.25 dollars! New: The Grand Championship Series, 5 561 pounds and counting! (1 pound = 1.28 dollars)
Not sure why you compared the prize pool of OCF to the total amount raised for GCS. :/
OCF total amount raised: $10,864.50
OCF total prize pool: $5,432.25
GCS total amount raised : £5,561 ($7,127.53)
GCS total prize pool: £2,320 ($2,973.54)
This is the correct GCS prize pool, right? Going off AE's post from 1st April. Don't know why there is an arbitrary cap on the prize pool. Relic made a similar blunder with WCS. Watching the prize pool go up before the competition begins is an exciting aspect of crowd-funding.

Will these games be played on the live patch or using the GCS mod?

This article was written by Yukiko as I personally have too much on my hands, I think she did a good job, and I think as always her articles are done with enthusiasm and humour. I wouldn't take comparisons too seriously.
There are caps in place because we are organising a live grand finals and quite frankly I don't know the exact budget I've got for another 20 days. So therefore can only dedicate what I think I can to the prize pool. All money for this tournament goes into this tournament though, so there's room for expansion in all aspects.

There was a comment that I saw earlier asking about why the prize pool only equates to roughly ~50% of the kickstarter money at the moment. I can't remember if it was on here or somewhere else but I'll answer it anyway to enforce where we're at with that stuff.
This tournament will be 100% transparent with expenditure and all information will be made available, however with being in talks with venue holders, and also possibly sponsors for the live event finals, the truth is I can't be accurate as to how much budget I need until I know myself.
We we will have some really cool stuff to spend money on in the coming months, and you will also notice this tournament already has a lot of cool assets in place like the GCS battle planner which is being funded by the project and will ensure the rules and map pick faction selection stuff is all public, easy to understand, and cool looking. Qvazar made that. But that's one example of expenditure to improve the quality of the event past just monney for the players and for their air travel. (which btw could range from something like £50 for hans or £500+ for vonivan, so I have to leave budget available.
Hope that all makes sense!
This has all been said before btw and is freely available information on the kickstarter, through stream content I've spoken about this stuff loads, and through the tourney hub.

This just in thanks to some very generous donations today it looks like the kickstarter is going to hit 6k! To celebrate we are putting more into the prizepool. It has now reached.
Prizepool:
1st: £1,400
and trophy
2nd: £650
3rd: £300
4th: £140
5th - 8th
£60 each
Bonus awards £50 each:
Best newcomer
RNG award
Non Meta award
Note: Rule of thumb is that roughly 50% will go into the cash prize pool. This still leaves a lot of room for expenses and the grand finals live event which will be a fantastic party for the whole community.

Heyo A_E,
for the few older community members who want to book flight and hotel in advance, could you tell us, where the event will happen so we can make travel arrangements?
Best Regards

Hey Dr. Wachs, the event will be in Leicester at an esports venue that we haven't signed anything with quite yet so legally want to not name . (Although it's 95% likely to be in leicester at at studio owned by that venue holder).
Heathrow or Manchester will be your best bets to fly to, and full details will be made available over the coming weeks!

Leicester is not the centre of the universe, but these are the two nearest airports

You are going to have to take a train, bus or car from the airport.

Part of me thinks it may be a better use of funds to scrap the live finals (maybe you and dan could cast in the same location), and the players get to play from home. More money would go to the prize pool and you get a better ROI. 13 guys at a location for the finals seems like a waste of money raised.
Maybe draw it up both ways, prize money without a live finals vs prize money with a live finals and see what people think?
