This article is so true. I'm just an average player but have won enough comeback victories that I try to never give up if I feel my partner and I have a chance no matter how small. (I play 2v2 mostly.)

Its all the sweeter when you do win in come from behind style anyways...they are the games that lead to my addiction to CoH!

My problem is in dwelling on what's wrong or not working instead of on what I CAN use that will work. I'll give a quick example.

Was playing a 2v2 on Rails as Wehr. My opponent had routed me off the field with sniper play....3 OF THEM!!! I decided I had lost, but I was DAMN SURE gonna get those snipers first. I slowly built countermeasures and picked off his snipers one by one and then built my own sniper team turning the tables to a nice (unexpected)comeback win!

That was a case of "accidentally" flipping the script that I've tried to learn from. Don't just get frustrated. Regroup, rethink and move on. Don't stay married to a strategy that isn't working.

Of course it's easier said than done, but in the heat of battle, a calm mind is the best asset you can have.

I actually study economics, management and law. My family got through some really though times so at some point I realized that no matter what happens, everything comes down to what you're ready to do. It's all in your head. From that point on I've been paying close attention to how I thought of things and what is right or wrong.

Then it's all about experience (and good reads on the internet ;) ).

@McCar7: There will be more COH/COH2 tournaments anyway ;)

2 things I always do: Focus on the upcoming game, not on the previous, and think of what you can do better this game, not what you did wrong last game. And second, never EVER give up :D

If you just lost a game, don't start the next one straight away. Break your opponent's winning – and your losing – momentum by making a pause of at least five minutes.

Personally I don't agree. If I played good and still lost in a really close game, all I think of is that I was so close to winning there's only 1 option next game: I win! These thoughts will only increase my flow (and thus my gameplay) even tho I just lost.

I agree. Losing a really close game is a different matter though :)

Amazing article. A positive attitude will making gaming more fun and you'll improve quicker. Also AFAIK being angry releases a hormone (or something related to that) that makes it harder to think.

"Anger, like Fear, releases a Stress hormone called Cortisol, the Long term effects of elevated cortisol levels are indeed detrimental to us, both physically and mentally." Going through a game clear minded is very helpful. And in my experience some get obsessed with blaming away the mistakes they've made on bugs or OP stuff instead of focusing on winning.

A very inspiring read twister. You totally nailed it on the head. I am one of those players that needs to do just this. I always have a negative frame of mind in torny games and I always put off playing warm ups with other because so. So thanks for sharing your advice :D, you guys will see a new Hans when I get back.

Bravo Twister! i read like it was myself, i know im a good player, i know i can beat top players, but only if my mindset is perfect. Some times i just dont have the feeling, yet i play and find games hard.

A tournament day, i was vs Chuu, a good player, so ofc in game one, i did my best and won quick. Second game, i had it, but i was getting restless somehow, i felt i need to end this quick which made me panic a bit. Ofc that panic instantly made me loose the sight of the game and gave me a bitter loss. I met chuu the next or the day after it in automatch, same setting as in the game i lost. He played differently this time, but somehow i was so confident and made the game end quick with my victory, i felt like i passed to round2 that day.

Good write up, you got my respect! :)

I've been criticized for quitting games too early and not giving myself a chance to come back. In reality, I'm just reading the game out to the end. The more experienced you are, the earlier you can see the outcome become clear. Do you know where the comebacks come from??? RNG

I'd rather lose than rely on luck to win.

Negative. If i'm behind I'll just try and drag the game on for as long as possible since I know I don't get tired and won't make anymore mistakes, while I'm at the same time trying to force my opponent into mistakes and show overconfident behaviour.

Cool stuff. Add some alcohol to that and you will win the game. That helped vs Symbiosis for me :D

Most of my best comebacks have come from doing something unexpected. Most of the comebacks I've had in general come from my opponent making mistakes.
