As someone who was asked to provide personal opinion about this situation, I would like to explain my thought process behind supporting this decision.
Yes, I did flip out when Stuve refused to play and yes, I did wholeheartedly support the DQ decision at the time as somebody mentioned in the previous posts.
However, when the dust settled and the heads cleared, it had become apparent that the DQ decision was a bit too harsh. Given the Kimbo situation and a royal pain in the ass he has become for everyone and I mean everyone involved, it is clear that Stuve's demeanor is nowhere near comparable to that of the unfortunate polish kid. It is only logical that the actions taken against each of them respectively cannot carry the same weight.
Another argument in support of lifting Stuve's DQ is his clean tournament record and the fact that he only recently started playing coh2 actively. His inexperience in coh2 tournament settings and general common sense code of conduct around community supported events doesn't fully justify his actions. Nonetheless, a case can be made that he was legitimately confused about the consequences of forfeiting tournament matches in the higher rounds.
The final argument for lifting the DQ is the fact that behaved reasonably and sincerely when he was confronted about the whole situation. He has apologized both privately and publicly and accepted a fair offer to return back to active GCS2 competition. As a sign of good will, GCS2 organizers rejected the initial suggestions of awarding 0 points for his qualifier placement as this would give him really low chances of qualifying, instead, it was decided that he would only get 3 out of 6 points. This effectively puts him in a better spot to achieve direct or fan vote qualification if he plays well in the next qualifier. Alternatively, if he misses the qualification spot by a few points, he has no one to blame but himself.
It is needles to point out that his actions during the next qualification tournament will be closely monitored and a set of immediate actions will be taken should he choose to act inappropriately. Any hypothetical horsing around from him will not only result in an immediate DQ but it will also heavily impact his participation in future tournaments.
Glad to hear the 420 high council made the decision to review their judgement, not an easy thing to do - so props there.
Looking forward to getting back to business this weekend and excited for the show to come. |
I get it he is banned, but how many threads do we need to announce that he is banned for what ever reason. When does an announcement become a public shame. If your a full grown man, you should not be looking to humiliate a boy of 16 or 17 years old. If he is banned then just move on with the tournament and stop shamming people, its not right.
He shamed himself when he cheated (allegedly )
Frankly, I'm glad the community is at least open to discussing these matters, its refreshing. |
at least kimbo ban is way more legit than stuve's ban
Yes, maybe the high council of top benefactors will review Stuve's ban in light of actual cheating. |
I don't disagree with anything you've said.
If it was a smaller tournament with less at stake it he would probably have had a warning and that's it.
It isn't a small tournament though, it's for a huge prize pool, and therefore forfeiting without a good reason is way more of an issue as is anti-competitive behaviour of the highest order.
Also from a respect standpoint the amount of work and effort from players, fans, and organisers etc means that we can't have people just forfeiting like that and also making the points system look like a joke. It's just not right, and is unfair to everyone involved.
You got to see Stuve play some good matches, but he clearly doesn't respect the organised competition element, so it's not the end of the world for him or you his fan.
I didn't mean 'small' in terms of COH2 events, in that respect it is grandiose. I am talking about perspective of coh2 events vs other big game events (ex: fortnite, pubg, etc). Let's not forget who we are and what this community is. We aren't breaking the twitch servers anytime soon with any event.
I just thought bans we're reserved for things like cheating, account manipulation, etc. Being 20 minutes late and not wanting to play after you lose a set doesn't seem like ban material imo. That's 0-100 real fast.

Stuve was banned from GCS2 in total.
To further clarify what happened:
Upon agreeing a time to play his match, a time of his choosing, Stuve then said he would no longer play that match and forfeit. His reason being that the match wasn't being live cast. We told him it was being saved for Tightrope to cast after, he still refused. He then played PUBG.
Does this seem like the actions of a player that is respecting the tournament that people have pledged 13,000 USD in prize money to create? No.
At this point in the process the GCS2 points situation is supposed to be seen to really start to matter, Stuve made them look completely worthless and by association made GCS2 look worthless.
Stuve forfeit any right to play in GCS2, I had top benefactors and fans of his stream tell me something needed to be done about it, all the referees that discussed it agreed (5 referees total).
I see how that can be frustrating. As a fan and a viewer - the show has been great so far. For the first time in a long time, we have an event going great with almost no drama from a viewers perspective. Personally, I didn't even realize any of this even happened until your post.
As a former staff referee and former event organizer here, I can relate to the frustrations of organizing these events and all the time and effort that goes with it (although not to your level). I don't think there is a referee on staff who hasn't had some sort of drama in an event. With that said; I think sometimes we get so caught up in the production aspect of things, we lose sight of the big picture. For us, its a small community gathering around to enjoy high iq games and each others jerkoff-company.
I thank you for opening this to discussion and hope you reconsider. |
from the other thread
Was Stuve banned from the qualifier or the entire tournament? I hope in the spirit of great competition he is around. Many people enjoy watching his high iq plays.

Play Post Scriptum.
100% Realism. All the way. Everyone is male. Everyone is white.
Germans are all blue-eyed blond. British are all Green-eyed Red-haired and crooked toothed.
something like 44 vehicles.
Americans being added. Brits and Germans right now.
It's on Steam !
Looks cool, thanks for the heads up.
Just to be clear, I am not advocating that all should be white males or that every single aspect must be completely historically accurate. This too would be historically inconsistent and ridiculous for a game. There were women and minorities who contributed/fought for their respective nations as we all know. With that said, we don't have to rewrite history either to appease today's social standards, something balanced would be nice.
Edit: Just to expand a little. You want to portray a female fighter? Why not just go to the history books where there are numerous examples of female resistance fighters. Why not incorporate something historical when you have the easy opportunity. Instead we get a glimpse of a 'British' infantry section, lead by carmen sandiego with sunglasses and a cyborg arm, some rando black dude, Willy Wallace in his wife beater and fixed bayonet, and GI Jimmy with every attachment and piece of equipment ever created for the war. Not ONE of these British infantry even wear the iconic Brodie helm, or any helmet at all for that matter. |
Looks like BF3 is going to get a nice life extension.
PC culture will continue to ruin many upcoming titles, giving us little to look forward too.
Nothing says WWII immersion like fighting with your genderless comrades as you slice through nazis with your katana held by your cyborg arm. DICE should just swap Hitler out with Trump, they're basically the same person, amirite?
Stop tearing down statues people, you might learn a little history. |
