Thread: Is SimCity a boring game mechanic to play against? 29 Feb 2016, 10:39 AM
People with little game knowledge look at Brit sim-city and OKW sim-city and think: Brits have brace, therefore it is much stronger than OKW sim-city. But these people can't see the bigger picture. They don't take into account what steps a player must make to counter sim-city, and how the different factions allow, or in fact do not allow, a player to make these steps. In: COH2 Gameplay |

If I had read this before I wrote my post in the other thread, I probably still would have written it because I am not biased. OKW simcity can be near impossible to break when you don't have strong arty options such as UKF or USF without rocket arty. It has fallen out of favor, but sim-city into King-Tiger was quite popular for some time. OKW simcity into heavy armor is still effective vs USF airborne who lack any of the tools to deal with it (no arty, no breakthrough tanks). Also something about playercard and playing all factions. Thread: Biggest Simcity counter29 Feb 2016, 00:29 AM
It's not like I gave a one liner to a well written post. You literally said "ALT F4". But whatever, fine, I'll write a serious response. You ignore the emplacements, get some light vehicle (bofors = no AEC = only slow moving 6 pounders and mines to counter armor; piats suck vs light armor) and focus on the rest of the map. With the opponent having supply and resources tied up into static emplacements, he will not be able to perform proper counter attacks to push you off your side of the map. You can now get a fuel cashe and tech up to high-tier tanks (panthers). Resist the urge to rush mediums, you are already not having trouble holding your side of the map and you are not going to break the emplacements with a P4. Panthers also stand up to any armor the UKF player can throw at you. Later on, you can add rocket arty to seal the deal if he is good at protecting his emplacements with AT guns. This pretty much sums up the game plan vs emplacement play (you can see it in action in the DEVM vs Jove game, it's a text-book example; it's from todays NA ESL tourney if you care to look it up). There is a reason emplacement play is not popular in 1v1, and that is because the above playbook counters emplacement play extremely well. Another few tips if you continue to struggle: - UKF player will likely rush a cromwell to try to get some mapcontrol back. This is his strongest counter attack possibility that he NEEDS to make work before you have your panther. So use your map-presence advantage to lay down some mines and don't get caught without AT tools while you tech to your panther. - Resist the urge to get something like a single mortar to try and counter a bofors. It's not worth it and the MP is best spend on getting a 222 or a fuel cashe. Now, in team games, the same more or less applies. You ignore the emplacements and gang up on the other players. Then, a bit later, you roll-up the emplacements. Communication is key, don't let your allies bash their heads into bofors early on, it will not work (bashing your head into emplacements early on is literally the only thing emplacement play counters, so avoid doing it). DEVM murdered Jove when he tried to use emplacements (with the emplacement commander) just a few hours ago in the ESL quater finals. DEVM didn't even need to chose a commander up until the lategame where he called in a tiger instead of a second panther. In: Strategy Desk |

I would say, after this weekend, the biggest counter for sim city is to play allies OR press alt+f4 ingame. Or you could, you know, not be a downer and actually learn how to deal with emplacements. In: Strategy Desk |

Stormless - Dan: "Oh My God, just look at this guy - Johny W control whole map with just 3 mg42's" This is gold. In: COH2 Gameplay |

I think you need to analyze your own play some more. Watch some high level USF games to see how it is done. In: COH2 Gameplay |

It's simcity nontheless. A medic truck with an leig next to it, a panzerhq next to it with a Pak43 covering it; it's very hard to break. Also it doesn't cost nearly as much supply as UKF simcity so you can still have units to cap the rest of the map. In: COH2 Gameplay |

Poll is ignoring OKW simcity. Otherwise, I find it satisfying to crush someones sim-city. So I voted no. In: COH2 Gameplay |

I have never felt the need to rotate maps. The only time I would rotate it is when I want to place a mine behind a door that I can't normally see or something. After that, I always hit backspace to go back to standard view. Rotating maps is downright annoying in teamgames. Player1: "We are getting flanked through the east!" Player 2: "Alright, I am on it!" *sends units to intercept* Player 1: "The other east!!" In: Lobby |
