So what is the best way to fight Shocks as OKW? Especially when they are backed up by Maxims, Snipers, Mortars, and Zis3 Guns? Well this is no longer about 'how to counter shock troops' but more 'about how to play against soviet combined arms'. What works pretty well is going for T3 to get a Walking Stuka as a primary way to deal with the soviet support weapons. The shock troopers themselves can be taken care of using focus fire, grenades, and having an MG34. If you choose the luftwaffe commander, you can use a stuka barrage + a fallschrimjeager call in behind their support weapons to quickly disrupt his rear lines, while your infantry and MG34 focus on the enemy front line infantry. It's a Tank Destroyer, not an Assault Tank. A Jagdpanzer driven into the enemy by itself can be killed by Conscript's AT Grenade + T-70, but that doesn't make it UP. You are right, it's not the SU-85s fault. The SU-85 isn't even a bad unit in my opinion. It's a long range turretless tank destroyer and it does its job well. The thing is, you just can't fit the unit into a proper game plan without either leaving significant weaknesses in your strategy. If you use a makeshift combination of SU-85s+call-in tanks to fill the gaps you are just doing something that can be done both better and earlier by teching to T3. I've said it before and I will say it again. The soviet tier construction is poor. T3 gives you 2 light anti-infantry armor units (redundancy) and 1 solid medium tank. T4 gives you arty, a tank destroyer, and a hybrid of the two which is useless as you can get better units for the job in the same tier. T4 just gives you 0 attacking potential and the katy is not good enough to sustain a defensive playstyle. Swap the T70 with the SU76 and suddenly both tiers will work and these units will actually have a significant place in the game again. In: COH2 Balance
Thread: su-85 needs attention.1 Aug 2014, 20:22 PM I used to play T4 a lot with soviets, but now I don't really care anymore. Soviet T4 just doesn't give you a lot of options and requires you to supplement with doctrinal tanks before you can begin aggressive armor pushes. But why be defensive until 9-11cp when you can just get T3 at 5/6 cp and be agressive with T34/76s way earlier? In: COH2 Balance

Thread: Soviet tip for hiding your tech31 Jul 2014, 11:59 AM So apparently it's a thing now to 'scout' your opponents base and see his tech by simply by looking at his base in the Fog of War. The buildings all leave a distinct texture on the ground beneath it that can be seen even through the Fog of War. For Soviets this means your opponent can know you are getting T3 units before your T3 building is even up. Bullshit, right? Well luckily there is a way around this problem! For Soviets at least. No such luck if you are a wehrmacht swine! Tip: Whenever you want to build either T1/2 or T3/4, start by building the building you don't want, then cancel it a few seconds in to get a full refund, and then build the building you do want next to it. So if you want to say, open with T2, first build T1, cancel it, and then build T2 next to it. Your enemy will look at your base to 'scout' your tech, but what he will see is the footprints of both T1 and T2! He will have no idea what is coming his way! In: Red Army Strategies
