Yea NDA, but how the new and old factions match up is actually very fun imo.
I'm starting to realize now why the Sherman has such a super duper smoke screen ability- the ability is also designed to support the M36s against heavy armor. |
I wonder non doctrinal US would fare against two Ostheer tigers.
Bazookamen + leftover Shermans from mid game + kiting M36s??
The relationship between Shermans and the M36 remind me of Cromwells and the Fireflies. |
The US Sherman's abilities are great, and its smoke ability is excellent and is in the same class as smoke bombs from ostheer. It makes Ostheer smoke dischargers look lackluster in comparison. |
Rifleman with Bar + MG is more than enough for CQC, and I think Garand will be like SVT, good at close, meh at range.
This is also why I am looking forward to US Infantry. Pretty much if you need a certain type of infantry that fits your strats, you can get them with US. I can see US infantry getting a lot of bazookas late game. |

What is not commonly known in the West is the fact that the Soviets were pioneers in Airborne doctrine/operations until the purges (and then subsequently, Germany took the lead with their elite 7th Flieger division) and that the fact that the Soviet Airborne arm was the largest in the world with 10 airborne corps (100,000 men) US and British Airborne were a comparably late invention.
The Soviet Airborne were the real elite troops of the Red Army and took part mostly in small scale, often brigade sized drops.
Depending on what year, there were, at their height, 20 Airborne corps (~220,000 Paras). They followed the fate of the Fallschirmajager- the Soviets converted most of them to Guards rifle divisions after mid 1943 and most no longer perform airborne ops.

The funny thing is, the 'vision' statements and Quinn Duffy's statements about the historical concept OKW and US are basically wrong. (it's just a game, but still). I think most serious ww2 enthusiasts would disagree as it contradicts the literature. |
The thing is, I saw the prices for the US infantry in the twitch and they are @ 250 to 300. US infantry is not expensive at all and unlike Soviet infantry, they are flexible in their upgrades for 60 muni. (eg. bars, bazooka, or 30 cal.) so you pay for what you want.
Since I assume that the garand is better than the K98, I think their infantry is a better value than either ostheer or soviets.
They seemed to lack close quarters, point blank guys like Panzergrens, assault grens, PPSH conscripts and shock troops.
The only SMG troops I have seen are doctrinal: the Paras (which have the option for long range weapons upgrades instead) and the Armor doctrine list has this 'assault engineers' which is armed with grease guns. |
That is the 75mm German Infantry Gun. I do know that the OKW has that. I believe they have infantry guns instead of mortars.

The USA has the 75mm Pack Howie.

It looks like having M36 (or m10) is really important in late game for this faction.
Frankly, this reminds me of Brits and their fireflies. |
The M8 75mm, Sherman 75, and M36 are built from the same building.
The M10 is probably going to be a cheap call-in, I don't know.
The Pathfinder infantry are like G43 grenadiers with additional sight range and 5 man squads. This is probably the standout.
The Veteran Infantry are the basic rifles with rifle grenades, rifle smoke grenades, and grenades.
The Rear Echelon Infantry is the US version of Engineers except they can also fight (with even a suppressing fire ability).
The Gun locker has BARs, bazookas, and 30 cals.
The M1 garands are probably like the SVTs of the penals..?
Pretty much it looks like the USA has the best infantry in the game, really good AI armor but lacking in heavy armor. |
^^
THQ had financial troubles and COh2 was caught in the middle of the firestorm and the mess. The game probably suffered as a result. But I think that the team probably has grown since a year of working and the content here looks better than the content last year. |
